Club Level Rm with a Non-club level traveller?

Hello,

We will be staying club level at AKL in Sept. We booked because it wasn't that much more than a bunk bed Aruhsa and we (and our small kids) are light eaters so thought we would take advantage of the CL food offerings.

That being said, my mother has decided to join us on our trip, but I believe she's just getting a standard AKL room. Is it OK if she joins us in the club? I don't want to be shady about it, and know she's not paying the premium, but if I bring her along for a bowl of cereal, is anyone going to say anything?

Thanks.

Why not be the hero to your mom and pay to upgrade her reservation to CL, too?

I understand what everyone is saying and I feel the same way, to an extent. We are not traveling with friends we are traveling with one person, my mother. I don't see the harm in bringing back a bagel or coffee for her to the room. No one who's posted on this thread would do that?
Ah well, I'll either make her go eat by herself somewhere or grace her with our leftovers that would otherwise be trashed. :thumbsup2

Obviously you can't have someone not CL come to the lounge to take full advantage of perks not paid for.

But, if you want to bring coffee or bagels back to your room, it's your business who gets to eat or drink them.

Nobody is being mean, and my feelings aren't hurt and I posted this question to hear everyone's views. No one should feel as if they're offending, everyone has their own values. For me, I wouldn't really care if someone else was doing it, so it's really not a big deal for me. She'll only be with us for 4 days out of our 8 day trip and we prob would only utilize the lounge 1 or 2 times during that 4day period. Who knows maybe she'll spring for the club level? I was just simply wondering. I guess you guys are way more honest than me! HA! :goodvibes

It would be cheaper to just add her to the reservation for 25 plus tax a night, than to upgrade your mom to cl. Cl runs a lot more than that a night. BC you have a 1 year old you are OK occupancy wise adding your mom for the time she is with you.

If you are only using CL for breakfast, then all of you are not getting the full beneift of the lounge. If you are also enjoying the appetizers and daily adult beverages- then she could easily get $25 of value per day out of the lounge. If it would just be a bgel, then she'd be better off getting one at the Mara (than paying $25plus tax per day), and joining you in your room.

I agree . We stay cl all the time, but not just to have breakfast. It is not worth it just for a few dollar bagel.

WE will be using it for whenever during our 8 days, so worth it for us (beers and apps, WOOT WOOT) and the kids (milk and snacks). But when my ma is with us those 4 days, it would probably just be for a quick am bite, as we'll be at the parks most of the day. The club level was $6 more/night than an Arusha bunk, but it's HUGE difference from standard to Club. She literally eats like a bird, so a club level upgrade for her is not worth it. It would only be worth it to be on the same floor as us and so that she would have a view. The $25/day too could prob not be justified as well. I will call OP to see what they say about a guest pass, or just quickly grab some food as other club members glare, and walk it down the hall of shame, to my room.

I'm already being a hero by letting her come, you don't know my mom, it ain't gonna be easy.

Then I'd think you'd be grateful to have the CL lounge to "escape" to--I wouldn't even tell your mom it existed and it can be your little secret! :thumbsup2

I wouldn't bring your mother to the club lounge without first asking a cm if it was ok. Who knows, they might say it is ok especially if you only do it once. But, I don't think bringing someone on a daily basis would be allowed.

The food and drinks are a big appeal but others also like to use the lounge as a place to relax with family and friends so sometimes its not just about a bagel or coffee. Guests also are paying for the privilege to use the lounge to read, watch television and visit in addition to the refreshments. So, even if your mother eats like a bird, staying club level is the overall enhancement of your vacation. Now, I would say that when your mother is visiting, you plan on spending most of the days at the parks, it would not be worth the cost.

I agree with the previous poster who mentioned taking some refreshments back to your room. Drinks, pastries, etc. Really, who cares if someone visiting your room enjoys this. It's not like you are going to feed a couple families hiding there:rotfl:

When we've visit the Ritz Carlton Club Levels, you can bring a guest to any presentation you wish. They have the morning, afternoon, pre-dinner and cordials/desserts. If you do so, you have to pay $50.00 per person, per food presentation. I'm just using this as an example that some hotels do not allow non-club level guests to visit the lounge.

In any event, hope you enjoy your trip. I think its nice for the grandmother/parents to enjoy Disney with the grandkids.

I'm with you. I don't see it as a big deal. I doubt anyone at Disney will care if you take your mom a bagel or a glass of wine. I have given beers to friends I met at the pool. I pay for the Club level if I choose to share a beer or a cookie with someone I think that is my choice. Outside of the morality police on these boards I really don't think anyone will care.

No, I think I would not do it. It sounds like you are wanting to bring extra food to your mother, not just having your mother eat the remnants of what your family didn't eat.

Perhaps you can pay for the difference so your mother can enjoy the CL perks too?

Just check with the concierge when you check in. In my experience it won't be a problem for your mom to join you in the lounge. We have stayed club level at GF (main building), AKL, WL, BC, YC, BWI. When we stayed at one of them, the concierge asked specifically if we had any other family members who would like to join us in the lounge. We did not, but it was clear that bringing a family member would be okay. Perhaps not eight or 10 cousins . . . but one elderly mom?! Should be fine.

As for taking food back to the room -- of course. Not a problem. We sometimes took desserts back and ate them the next day.

I would do this. If they say no, you have your answer.

I have to agree with everyone else who says it is wrong to just help yourself to extra food to feed someone not paying for club level. I wouldn't walk into any resort with a free breakfast bar and hand it over to a family member staying elsewhere. Nor would I go in and just help myself if I wasn't staying there. One person doing something wrong may not cost a company much. But if it is ok for one it is ok for everyone. And it not ok to take extra food from the club lounge to feed others who are not paying for a club level room.

Idk, I would think if spending time with her for breakfast is so important that you would all go out to eat. Not give her some left over bagel. Geesh, how bad can it be to go down to the quick service and all buy a bagel to eat together? LOL And no, sorry, I wouldnt try to sneak some dry bagel to my mom just because it's free. I'd treat her more respectfully and buy her breakfast somewhere.
Edited to add soemthing after seeing your comment on being a hero letting her go. Why even tell your mom about the lounge? Gosh, that would be our escape when needed. LOL

Thanks everyone for helping me work through this.

I don't want her to pay xtra and get a club room just because we are, BUT we are traveling together so it would be nice to BE together, esp with the kiddos.

We have 2 adults, 1 child and a 1yr old in our room, so technically there's only 3 of us, as I think babe doesn't count. I don't want to pay an extra fee for mom the whole time as we won't be doing this EVERY morning, and I don't think it would be worth the extra price...

So it's tight security huh?
No worries. If we want to have a bite with her in the morning or afternoon, we'll just take food and eat in our room while we glare at the safari animals. It's not so bad! :goodvibes

Just think if everyone did this though. Johnnie and Sue area staying AKL concierge but their parents aren't. So, it's Johnnie and Sue plus 4 in laws etc. You can see how this can really add up.

While you may not get "caught" it is against the rules for those not saying Concierge at AKL to use the lounge.

As you stated, she can come to your room and since you are all staying at AK you can all use the pool as well.

Have a great trip.

It's funny that some posters are suggesting I withhold information from my mom about our club level perk, however taking a bagel from club level and withholding info (from complete strangers who it probably wouldn't even harm and wouldn't even care) about who the bagel is for is an absolute no-no. Interesting......
Just trying to keep it going. ;)

FYI I called concierge and they said it was no problem if she joined us a day or 2 for a snack if she is traveling with us, and because she is only 1 person. They said it's really no big deal. I guess the real Disney police aren't as strict as the ones on this board.
