Official Castaway Cay 5K Thread

The ships don't seem to always have medals according to this thread, but if they do, they give them for the CC 5K. They only have the 5K there, so there's no one else to give them to. :)

Sorry, I meant if they have medals on ALL the ships, not just some like is being reported now. In other words, if I know I will get a medal, I will run. Otherwise, it's not worth the heat. I can run in the heat at home ;)

The weather on Castaway Cay was awesome - 80's... Bahama's - a little chilly! Run down of the race for me:

Beginning: I was pumped!
Middle: OK - I can do this - you just passed the guy who was in Evolution who looked like he was getting ready to run in the Olympics - LOL!
After - Holy crap - "I'm dying" but that plastic medal never felt any better!! Give me a Conch Cooler!!!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!:flower3:

How'd you feel afterwards????

How was the weather????

What is a virtual 5k? How do you "run/walk" on a computer?:surfweb: Would I still be able to lace up my new blue Nike "Lamarrs" and put rubber to the road??????

I just starting running too and my sister and I have completed several virtual 5k runs. Being in PA in the winter, we tend to do ours on the treadmill, but you definitely can run outside - they say "run your favorite course". The ones I did we're at fortheloveofthekids.com and you get a bib and t-shirt prior to the run, then a very nice medal after all the results are posted. Their next run is in July ( I think) then they do the holiday hustle (Halloween, Thanksgiving, and New Year's) and Valentine's Day. Just did the Valentine's 5k last week on my treadmill - finished at 39:02!! My goal is to always finish, no matter how long it takes me... And one day, I am going to run the Disney Princes Half Marathon!

Great job on your accomplishment. The fact that you ran and completed the 5k is awesome!!!

Sorry, screwed up my post... Check out fortheloveofthekids.com for some good virtual 5k runs with a medal... They have 5 runs a year right now.

I don't see why not. Your're not likely to get a 3g signal out there, but the gps for tracking should work with no issues.

I was finally able to pick up a Satelite on my Garmin. When i got home and downloaded to my Computer it showed me running in the water! NO LAND! Funny but Odd!

We are doing the Bahamas on the Dream 5/5/13 - I can't wait to do the 5K. I've been working out since June 2012 and making healthy lifestyle changes - and one of my fitness goals is to complete a 5K. What better time to try than on CC! :thumbsup2

It seems to get better each time. The numbers and medals are great memories! I have a large selection of race medals. Soon to add more disney races. I'm doing the tower of terror 10 miler and Disney marathon in 2014.

Thank-you SO MUCH!!!!!
I will definitely look into it!!!!!!:flower3:
I haven't walked 3 miles since doing that 5k, but my husband and I have been walking 1-2 miles about 3 nights a week. Not exactly what one would call in training mode, but I don't want anything to happen to my two new feet before doing the CC5k on 3/15. I'm being overly cautious...........:)

My 1st time on the Dream, we didn't know anything about the CC5K until after it had been run.
We are going on again this April and I am so looking forward to this and will be crossing the finish line even if I have to crawl over it :) I've never slogged (that's what I call my slow jogging) in that kind of heat/humidity before.

Does anyone know if i'll have time to get my kids to the club, on the island so that both my husband and I can run it? I am semi training to do this, but hope that to make this my first 5K...what great motivation a mickey medal right?!?!

thanks for any input!!

Becky

I'm totally getting ahead of myself here, because I don't even know if I'll be upright coming across the finish line, on the 15th,BUT, I was actually looking at the RunDisney 5k the weekend of Nov. 9th. When you factor in the hotel stay and a 3 or 4 day WDW pass,it comes to some big bucks to run a 5k.
If someone has done one of these before and thinks it's a once in a lifetime experience, I may become more serious about it.
I do think it would be an amazing experience, but, it would be expensive,so I just don't know.
What's making this a decision that needs to be done soon is------ the WDW prices will be going up soon,so getting tickets now for future use, will save some money.........;)

Aha. I expect you could go to the meeting spot and ask them if they have medals that day. If not, go back to bed. :)

I would have to do a paid RunDisney run during/around a longer visit already budgeted for. I really wanted to do the Expedition Everest 5K in May, but DH wouldn't be able to do it with me (he injured himself by jogging too early on in his weight loss, and it has cascaded into other injuries) and we would have to do something with DS, and it was just too quick after our Feb trip. Maybe next year! But I couldn't do a RunDisney race JUST for the race, that's for sure.

Ran CC5K Feb 19th with a camera on my head but need a few more posts before I can post the link.

It was a pretty boring course but a nice start to the day

I can't search for this answer, so sorry if this has been asked and answered before.
I know the route for the 5k has been described many times, but are there any significant hills on the course or is it fairly flat?
I have a week left before we leave and I need to know if I need to increase my outside hill work :)

No need for hill work, it's very flat, no problems there. Try to enjoy it, it will be over before you know it.
