Aulani Spa Recommendations?

I am getting so excited for our family's upcoming trip to Aulani. I'd like to splurge and try a treatment or two at the spa.

If you've been to the Laniwai Spa, is it worth it? Do DVC members get a discount at all? Finally, what services would you recommend?

Thanks to anyone who can help! It's tough to decide when all the treatments look heavenly!! :cloud9:

Our daughter enjoyed the heated stone lomi lomi massage. She thought it the best massage she's ever had. I had a great reflexology treatment. Loved it. It was one of the two best I've had with several bad reflexology treatments in between. It's a lovely spa. Enjoy.

The Spa was amazing!! Seriously one of the best spa's I have been to... and I have been to my fare share!

DVC members get the Signature Lomilomi for the price of the standard Lomilomi. So of course DH and I had to get the Signature Lomilomi. It did not disappoint.

Be sure and get there at least an hour or more before your treatment so you can enjoy all the areas of the spa. Access to their outdoor hydrotherapy garden, Kula Wai, is included in most treatments. Kula Wai offers whirlpools, cold plunge, mineral baths and six different rain shower experiences.

The rain showers and soaking tubs are really cool and a "dont miss". When theres availability, guests can purchase a day pass to the hydrotherapy garden for around $45. I thought about just doing that, but there is no guarantee of availability so I felt it best to book a treatment.

Anybody have any idea how prices run?

Yes!! Me again lol. I'm stalking you on the boards:) pm me your email. I requested a brochure from them and they sent a pdf one.

Anyone else that wants one pm me too:-)

My son and I did the Lomi lomi signature last week. DVC members get an upgrade to the signature which includes the hot stones etc. There is no other discount than the upgrade. LOVED the outdoor water spas, mineral baths and theraputic showers! I want one of those waterfall ones! I think all "old" people should have one of those!;)

I want to do a couples treatment as well. I had a Lomi Lomi massage before but it wasn't very relaxing so I'm not sure about doing that one again.

I think if you did the signature one, you'd like it. The hot stones make all the difference, and they surround you with orchids!

OK, go ahead & laugh at me, it' OK...I'm used to it...but I have a question. I have never been to a spa. I'm just not sure about the idea of some stranger touching me so have always avoided any plans that may include a massage. What does one even wear to go to a spa? That's always been something I've wondered about. That's another concern I have about trying one...just how bare does one have to get?? This always seemed like it would get mighty personal... Plus I think I would likely choke on the prices tho so I don't see it happening...but am curious to know.

I haven't been to the spa at Aulani yet. But I have had a massage through DCL. They take you to a changing room where you are to take it ALL off. Then you put on a provided robe. Then someone escorts you to the treatment room. You are then by yourself for a few minutes so you can take off the robe and then cover with a sheet. The massage therapist uses the sheet to keep your bottom cover as you are massaged. I have heard of some people keeping on their undies. But I don't think that is the norm. Be interested if it is different at Aulani.

No need to be stressed, the staff are very attentive to what you are comfy with.
They ask you to bring a swim suit for all the outdoor pools and showers. Then they give you a robe to change into in the locker room (complete with a private changing room) and a locker to put all your clothes & belongings in.
When you do a massage you are completely covered. You can take off all clothes or leave your undies on. They have a blanket over you at all times and it is very discreet. They only work on one section of your body at a time. So, for example, they will pull one leg out from under blanket being careful to tuck the blanket in/under you for your privacy.
Dont know how else to describe it but it is all very discreet.

At Aulani, they tell you to come in your swim suit so you can enjoy the outdoor mineral baths, showers, and hot tubs. Then they make a special exfoliating scrub of our choice for you, and you can either use it there or take it home. When your appointment time comes, they bring you in and you change out of your suit and into one of their wonderful soft fluffy robes. The person doing your massage will take you to the massage room where she leaves you long enough to remove your robe and crawl between the sheets of the massage table. You start face down, but she does hold the sheet up and have you turn face up part way through. She will use her hands, hot stones, and lomi lomi sticks in the massage.

I get a massage about once a month, and I've had several on cruises, and I've always been impressed by the professionalism of the staff. I was pretty nervous at my first massage, but after that it was when can I come again.

You usually have the option of wearing underwear or less, as you feel comfortable with. You are covered by a sheet and blanket, and they will only uncover the immediate area being worked on - back, leg, arm. At any time you are uncomfortable, just say something. Also, if your first massage, let them know and they should tell you what is being done. Discuss your concerns with your masseuse. They will make sure you are comfortable.

Prices tend to be high on a cruise or at a resort, but if I could afford it, I'd get a massage every day of the cruise or resort stay.

I am curious about the spa packages for kids. We went to Vero beach and they had a wonderful mother daughter package. I was hoping Aulani had something similar. I have seen descriptions of services for kids but are they in the teen spa or the main spa?

Besides what everyone else has said you can also request to have a female or male massage therapist. My best friend was mortified when she had a male therapist show up for her body scrub at a spa. He was professional but it took her a while to relax. I always ask for a female!

Hi again! I am the OP & just wanted to thank everyone for the informative replies. I am going to book the Signature Lomi Lomi... Also debating whether to try one of their facials. Can anyone weigh in on that?

I found this article online with great pics of the spa... It looks awesome!

Counting the days until I will be there!!

I didn't book a facial, just a massage, but when I was there I was really wishing I would have. Honestly we just loved hanging in the soaking pools, I also spent some time relaxing in the ladies steam room & the sauna in the ladies locker room area.

I could have spent all day there! You can order lunch, there is a spa menu, and have it brought to you on the lounging/reclining chairs.

Talking about this is making me want to be back there!:sunny:

Thanks everyone! Yes, undies please!!:rotfl:

Next questions - about how long should one allow for one of these appointments? Do you book them ahead of time or once you're there? Also, do you tip your individual masseuse a percentage of what the treatments run?

Since you've never had a massage, you might want to consider getting one before you go to see if you like it before spending a lot of money at a resort spa. I know Massage Envy, of which quite a few are near you, offers a $49 introductory massage. They won't have the total spa experience of Aulani, but you should be able to determine if you like a massage, or would be more comfortable with a "less personal" treatment. They are very experienced with first timers, and if you like it, you'll be more relaxed and able to enjoy the full experience when you visit the spa at Aulani.

I'm planning on booking before I go to secure a reservation but they may have openings available if you book there. Yes tip is additional, I usually do 20%. I get facials frequently and they are very relaxing and good for your skin. So if a massage doesn't work perhaps consider getting a facial instead.
