Everything Michigan....

DH is not a lover of the beach generally; he finds it too hot, and is not a fan of huge crowds. I am hoping he would like your beaches more since the water is cool, and the weather has the potential to not be so sweltering, depending on the day. :)

I would not say our water is "cool" so much as "cold". Of all those mentioned I would also suggest Sleeping Bear Dunes, but go there for the hiking, not the beach sitting or swimming.

Any of your east state siders care to give me a road report for Saturday. I wanna come vist

Roads in the SE will be clear and probably dry for the most part. Have a great time!
Cool MY BFF in West MI said it was blowing and nasty by her this AM, I hope things are better so I can see her and vist too.

Hello from a Mid Michiganigander.

:welcome: I love the metalwork in your sig link, very nice. My son loves working with metal and is teaching himself to weld and cut. I've got him working on a custom piece in our high school football logo/colors right now for my front yard. :goodvibes

This thread has sure been quiet lately! How is everyone enjoying fall?

Hello from another Michigander! Been lurking here for a little while. Just wanted to say "Hi!"

Well, after nearly 8 years of living in Tucson, AZ I have finally (permanently) moved back to MI. I'm now living in Belleville.

I don't know anybody outside of parents, etc. I don't know where the fun places to go are. Trying to get settled in and start a life here.

Just wanted to say HI!

Welcome home!

All of my husband's single friends and the local au pairs here (I'm on the East Side in Grosse Pointe) hang out in Ferndale or in Royal Oak. Lots of great bars & restaurants there. My old babysitter who is in her mid-20's works at Quicken Loans and they all go out downtown after work. Birmingham and Troy are also great places to go out. You'll find people to connect with :goodvibes

Looking for a good overnight summer camp in Northern Michigan. My 8 yo DD has expressed a real interest in spending a few weeks away at camp this summer and I'm trying to put together a list of places for her to choose from. Everything I've seen online looks the same, so I'm looking for maybe a little real world experience, either personal experiences or from someone you know who's spent time at one of our camps here in MI. Price isn't a real consideration, just want the best experience possible for her.

Does she like horses?

I went to several camps growing up, but the one I liked best and which still holds a place in my heart was Black River Farm and Ranch.

I don't know exactly what you're looking for in the way of "real world experience" for your DD, but if she's into horses, it's a great place. There's riding for a variety of levels (Western, not English), horse care, bareback riding, and it's the only place I know of that teaches vaulting. There's not a lot of cooking your own meals over an open fire or sleeping under the stars, so it's not a "traditional" camping experience. But in a non-horsey vein there's also swimming, crafts, other farm animals, and lots of social activities. There's never a dull moment. It was the best part of my summer and I eagerly await the day my DD is old enough for me to send her there.

Thought I'd bump this thread and see if I can get any help planning a vacation. DH and I were born and raised in MI and so were our kids. We moved when the kids were almost 9 and 7 (18 & 16 now). We go back regularly to visit family in the Detroit area.

We think we'd like to take our summer vacation in MI this year and visit some of our favorite places that the kids barely remember. We'd love to do Traverse City, Petoskey, Mackinaw Island, Sault Ste Marie, and Tahquamenon Falls. We will probably have ten days or so.

Although I've been to those places too many times to count, things change and my memory is a little fuzzy! Any suggestions on places I've forgotten, things we should skip, places to stay, etc?

Are there any schools open in Michigan today?

Not around here! I doubt we'll see a plow anytime soon either. We are having lake effect snow now in the southwest part of the state.

If you're going to Tahquamenon, you may as well travel a little further and hit Pictured Rocks too!
