What foods have you never tried and will never try?

Raw Oysters. I just can't. To me they look like huge gobs of snot on a plate.

I'll also pass on the cheese with the maggots in it.

These & the rotting flesh thing are about it for me as far as what I've seen so far that I wouldn't try - maybe the chicken feet. I've not tried brains but would like to. Problem is, the little greasy spoon up the street that sells them also makes killer hamburgers. So, any time I'm tempted to try the brains, I get a craving for one of those burgers as soon as I go in there :rotfl: I also really like rawhack, but it does taste strange if it's cold.

I can honestly say there is nothing I would put on such a list. If I was a guest in someone's home (especially in another country) and I was served some of the stuff other people lists, I would eat it. Otherwise it would be rude and might offend the host.

Now would I go and order some of this stuff on purpose? Most likely not. But I refuse to say never.

I will not eat internal organs ( ie hear, liver, kidneys, tripe etc) yuk

I also cannot eat fish of any kind - hits my vomit button every time...... Lol

My mother always said, "Try everything once. If you don't like it you never have to eat it again, but at least try it." On that advice I have tried just about any and everything that has been presented and I consider myself to be a very adventurous eater. Even Simba tried grubs when offered by Timon and Pumba.

That being said, most of the things Andrew Zimmern ingests I would probably try if it came down to a basic survival need, but surely not on a voluntary basis.

1. Tongue- Never eat anything that can taste you back.
2. Rocky Mountain Oysters- No explanation should be necessary.

Chittlins are probably at the top of my list (once heard that you know they weren't "cleaned" good if you find a piece of corn:sick:). I tend to skip eating the internal organs of any animal. Head cheese is disgusting as well and I'm not even sure what it is.

Most internal organs and testicular tissue, Aside from a bite of pâté here and there, the insides of animals I will not try. That includes tongue.

Yet, I'd like to still consider myself a foodie,

Anything that involves innards...brains, intestines, hearts, livers, etc. Never tried them, never will.

The obviously gross stuff like maggots, brains etc.

Also, I'm always amused when people say they could never stomach insects but will quite happily eat prawns and shrimp. To my brain, both are equally urf in looks and texture.

This may sound weird, but I wont eat anything weird (and yes I understand that to some my choices maybe weird). We all have our own beliefs, so please don't question my why's, but I only eat, chicken, turkey, cow, pig and seafood.

I believe that we were meant to be meet eaters, but that not all animals were provided for our taste buds. And, I won't eat any baby animals, I just can't. I wish I didn't like beef so much, because I adore cows. I just think they are so cute, but I loves me a steak and cheeseburger.

I have never tried these, and absolutely never will.

Tripe
Escargot
Frogs legs
Chicken feet

What are yours?

Will go along with you on all but the frog legs. Oh, they are soooo delicious! ;)

Won't even taste---
sushi
brains
cow tongue (any tongue)
scrapple (greasy looking yuck that they tried to pass off to us in Lancaster,PA)
raw oysters
no raw meat/fish

Really, I love most foods, just not (to me) far out stuff.

Ick, I am not a foodie and would not try many of the foods on this thread. I cannot get past the cheese w/live maggots. When on earth would someone take a look and even think, hmmm, I might need to taste a bite of that? :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::faint:

I might do myself some good and lose some pounds if I start using the word maggot to describe some of my favorite foods. Instead of chocolate candy - maggot bars, grilled maggot sandwiches, etc. I don't think I could even eat something w/just the name in it. ICK.

I was cajoled into trying tongue at my friend's house when I was in high school. I wasn't even staying for dinner! I REALLY didn't want to, but felt so disrespectful toward her parents by refusing, so I gave in and...LOVED IT. It tasted like the most tender steak you could imagine. Obviously, my friend's mom knew how to prepare it.

I really dislike organ meat. The smell pretty much does me in, and the idea of putting it in my mouth is incomprehensible. That said, if I was served something at V&A's I would try it...except for the following.

I think I'd pass out (or make sure I did) if dog, cat, intestines, maggots, anything alive, sex organs, or brains were offered. That would give me an out!

I think the cheese with live maggots in it is my line, or thing alive that I have to eat whole. Other then that if I'm visiting somewhere and they serve me "weird" thing I will eat it, not matter how I actually feel about it. Now DH will eat just about anything except the cheese with maggots, he is especially found of a local Mexican place serves Cow Tongue tacos and him and DS LOVE them. In fact that was DS's first red meat and he ate half portion of it when he was only 8 months old.

I'm the poster who posted about the maggot cheese, and yeah, it's the aliveness, along with the wormyness. I have eaten food that was still moving--in Japan they cut the head of shrimp and serve it on sushi. It's dead but still has reflexes.

I love cow tongue--grew up eating it and never even knew it was "weird" till now. I am surprised at how many people have posted that it's icky. It's really, really good, and once it's all sliced up, it doesn't even look like a tongue anymore.

Well, I'm a good little coonass, so thus far, nothing listed on here has hit my squick buttons. I love, love, love head cheese, like sweet breads, frog legs, shrimp, oysters, crawfish, tongue etc.

There is one thing I might have problems with. Birds that are "high." (No, they were not smoking wacky weed when killed. Here's a link to someone who has done it in a modern, hygenic style http://honest-food.net/2012/10/20/on-hanging-pheasants-2/ IRL, it's usually done by just leaving the corpses hanging on the back porch in the middle of winter until the head separates from the body.) I might taste it after it's cleaned and presented, but the whole way it's prepared sort of turns me off. Still I've never tried it; maybe it is as good as some people think. :confused3

Oh and liver. I don't think it's gross, and I love boudin and love it in dressing, I just don't like the taste of it fried up chicken fried steak style or pan fried/sauted with onions.

Normally i'll try anything, but i just cant handle Lutefisk:sick:
the look the smell, it makes me twitch

My grandmother always told us if you try it and it kills you, you never have to eat it again.

Wendy Thank You for your grandmother's wonderful quote! I'm saving that one to use on my grandchildren when I'm trying to get them to try something different!:)

I've tried an awful lot of things including most of the ones mentioned here. I can't think of anything I wouldn't try except for maybe something rotting. That definitely has no appeal to me.
