Poly pool Reno

The dates posted on the Disney Travel Agent site as well as the parent site for this board are:

Nanea Volcano Pool
03/04/13 - 03/15/13

Where did you see that it was scheduled for rehab to begin yesterday?

Tikiman is most reliable I was told but I wanted to know if anyone knows for sure it closed yesterday....i am chatting with a cm who says March 4-15

just got off chat with CM and she said it is open today as normal and the dates of renovations has changed and it will be open while we are there March 3-6

Sorry to hijack, but are they actually going to renovate the pool (as in add a hot tub, more effective water heating, etc.) or just do the normal periodic maintenance?

I can handle that :cool1: We will be there 3/2-3/8. Did she tell you when it will be closing? as long as I have your 4 days open too I will be a happy camper :goodvibes Thanks for the update!

I read somewhere that it was an acid wash/regular maintenance :confused3

Oh well, I had hoped they'd finally put in a hot tub, which I think is a very strange omission for an otherwise awesome pool that is supposed to feature thermal activity.

Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2

I'm hearing tentatively September for a hot tub and major repair. That being said, I've also heard this several times over the past few years and each time it gets postponed so as far as I'm concerned it's not something to worry about yet.

This current closure that keeps getting discussed with these varying February and March dates is supposed to be some kind of acid washing of the deck and/or basic maintenance. A closure of less than 2 weeks will never be anything more than some kind of maintenance.

Count me in as somebody else who's watching closely for live reports of the pool status.

she said it had been postponed. She gave me the name of the poly manager she spoke to so i could quote him.

Yep, it's just a short regular maintenance/cleaning closure. The hot tub installation keeps getting talked about and seems like a go and then halts. The people I know there have really gotten to the point that they will believe it when they see it rather than having any certainty about it.

I wonder if the reason they haven't put one in yet is because of the volcano pool theme? What I mean is that an ordinary hot tub like any other resort just wouldn't do it, with a volcano theme. They might want extra theming, making the hot tub look like a thermal hot spring (with fake steam rising around it like the top of the volcano) or something like that. But if WL can implement a geyser more than 15 years ago now, it seems Poly could have done something similarly well-themed even earlier than that. Again, I think it's really strange for the Poly not to have one.

Just put a hot tub at the very top of the volcano. Relaxing, stays with the theme and best hot tub view in DW!

I would add that a "water elevator", like one resort has in Hawaii, would be an excellent way to get to the hot tub (and the slide entrance) in this case. I doubt WDW would pay for such a thing, but I can dream, right?

Nah, that's not it. Most volcanos I believe have some kind of hotsprings nearby, don't they? I would think that kind of theming would fit perfectly. It's all about money. Disney has had other things they'd rather put money into and people keep going to Poly and paying the crazy prices that we pay without a hot tub so there's no incentive for Disney to hurry up and put one in. I'm certainly not holding my breath that the September rumour will actually end up happening but boy would I like it.

Well, that's kind of my point. It WOULD fit perfectly, but I wonder if, while realizing this, they are afraid of either a) putting in a regular hot tub inexpensively and then guests complaining that it doesn't go with the rest of the theme, or b) spending the extra money to really fit the theme (with fake steam, red-lighted interior, maybe extra large size, etc.) and then not being able to charge guests even more to stay there to pay for it. I think the price to stay there is at a maximum the market will be able to bear for a long time.

They do want to put in a hot tub that meets guests expectations but it wouldn't be about charging more. Hot tubs aren't the huge attraction some folks think. They may help a bit in occupancy rates , nit hugely and not important to the Poly's occupancy at this pount, but its not enough of an attractor to charge more.

Switched to CR for our 3/8 trip - they couldn't give 100% confirmation to my agent that it would not be closed then - too risky! If we arrive and it is open --- meaning if I call a day or two before, think I can switch? Even I had to pay the $50 change fee, I wouldn't mind. We didn't have to pay the change fee to switch to CR.

If they have vacancies, sure you can switch, but you'll have to pay the difference for the price of the resort, which is probably considerably more than $50.
