I'm not from UK, but from overseas and I'm hoping someone can help.. Lol We're planning a 4 day stay at WDW right now. So far our flight costs are MORE than the rest of our entire vacation will cost!

First, what are you all willing to spend on flights to experience the Disney Magic?? We don't have a choice, we promised our son for his 5th bday he'd get to see the Mouse, as we took his sisters on a cruise for their 5th (that was in January, and we were still in the States to flights were a FRACTION of what we're looking at now!)

I mean, it's almost cheaper for us to book the Disney Mediterranean cruise than it is for us to fly all the way across the ocean just to go to WDW for 4 nights/5 days. The only issue I have with that is since my kids are still so young, there wouldn't be a lot they'd be interested in as far as the ancient ruins of Pisa or anything else. Lol

Ok, you said you're not from the UK, are your flights from the UK? Do you live in the UK and want to fly from the UK?

It's very difficult to give you any tips or advice without knowing where you want to fly from etc.

What I can say is that flights for 4 days will always be more expensive than say a week. There are 3 things that are known to lower the cost of flights...

1. Flying on a Tuesday or Thursday
2. Staying over a Saturday night
3. Going for a week or 2 weeks rather than a few days.

If you are flying from the UK, that will be a long flight for 4 days. Have you considered going to Disneyland Paris?

If you are set on WDW, I would really consider extending your trip to at least a week. By the time you've recovered from your jet lag it will be time to come home!

Your short length of stay is typically American, so I take it you're an American family working in the UK, welcome. But are you also visiting family when back in the States so your stay is longer 4-days?

Anyway, when in Europe you really need to do what the Europeans do, take long holidays (vacations), a typical UK holiday would last 14-days and some manage to stretch to 21-days. That being the case, the best travel options are mainly geared around 14-days followed by 7 and 21-days.

Hopefully you can take a longer holiday and if so then the cost per day will come down. If you list your travel dates, the county where you're live and the type of accommodation then I'm sure you'll get lot's of advice.

Also if you're a military family are you using the discounts at http://www.shadesofgreen.org/

Our flights always cost more than the hotel/tickets/food at WDW. I agree with others, can you go for a longer trip? UK air duty is the most expensive in the world ...... :(

I'm sorry I forgot to include details. :)

1. Yes, we're American. :) but we're in Turkey, not UK (I just thought y'all would be able to help me out :) )

2. We're staying IN the states for longer than 5 days, that's just the extent of our WDW trip. We'll actually be in FL for 6-7 days and other locales for about 1-2 weeks, so a total of 14-21 days that we'll be Stateside.

3. I looked at SOG, but our current hotel AoA is actually cheaper, plus gives us more of an authentic stay since they have themed rooms. We're utilizing as many discounts as we can thru the military, airfare is just one of those expenses that eludes me. I can never ind it cheap enough for our family of 5! Lol
*we do plan to try to use military transport, but in the case it falls thru I need a back up plan*

Thank you again for any help, tips or advice!

Hello :wave2:

I think it's very difficult to give you advice since we're not in Turkey, and don't know when you are travelling (or I missed it if you said ;)). One thing I do know, is that flights are expensive unless you get last minute bargains or, as you discovered, travel at off-peak times. Even so, I watched Fox News a couple of nights ago when they were talking of the merger between AA and United (? I think) and their pundits were saying how much flights had gone up and expect this to continue :(

With little ones, I guess you need the journey to be as easy as possible. Are you going to WDW first, or to see family? Frankfurt has a direct flight to Orlando with Lufthansa and I know that Turkey has very good links with Frankfurt (my DH is flying to Izmir soon and his best route is always via Frankfurt). Have you tried Expedia for routes and prices? I would have expected that there would have been a lot of shared information amongst the military families of good prices to return to the USA?

You asked what we would pay for air fares. Next year I am taking my family for a special celebration and alas it will need to be in August; school holidays here in the UK. I am thinking that anything less than £1000 each for 4 adults and 2 children (in coach/economy) will be a bonus :crazy2:. When I go with DH, we either travel premium economy or business and would expect to pay less than £1000 each for premium and not too much more for business! But we travel at less busy times, and can go mid-week or whenever the offers are there.

Good luck getting it done :). If you are not out in Turkey for too long, I'd look at a family-friendly resort in Europe instead, although I'm sure that the pull of home and family is very strong :goodvibes

Hopefully the military transport will work out all okay but if there's a last minute change in plan then it could be even more expensive to book five last minute seats on a schedule flight, specially as there's no direct flights from Turkey.

And it also depends on when you're traveling, is it out of season as flying in July and August will be more expensive and harder to find 5-seats last minute than in May or June.

Also, could you have a back-up plan by flying military but to another European city and then schedule direct flight to the States?

Try www.Kayak.com for flight prices and good luck.
