Some FP+ Info

Now that dinner is done and I'm sitting here in Garden Grill wishing I had bigger pants on, I thought I'd share what a CM told me while waiting at the turnstile this morning.
He said they had just watched a PowerPoint about the new system. He said - if he remembers correctly, guests will be able to get 4 advance FPs per day, including AP holders (once the system is fully implemented). They will not be limited to a certain number per year (except the limit of 4 per day times 365 days).
He said that guests will still be able to get FPs in the park (not the paper type you get now, you'll swipe your card/wrist band and be assigned a return window).
We chatted for quite a while - I was the first person at the park besides the princess bkfst families - but that's what I specifically remember.

But do you have to be "in the system"? We usually just show up the days we want and use our no-exp tix. We never stay on site either. Will we be able to use FP+?

Being able to choose 4 before getting there should take a bite out of those 12 miles of walking per day but I wonder how many will never get used.

It's a good question that I can't answer. I still have some non exp days on a ticket sitting around, but I'm usually AP, so that's what I was asking him about.
I imagine Disney will do their research, as they always do, and figure out how many FP+ go unused and add that amount back into the supply of same day FP availability,

Rumor is that "no-expiration" tickets will be going away. I don't know what they will do about the ones that are still in circulation.

Rumor was also that FP+ would first be rolled out at Test Track on February 17, and sounds like maybe this has come true. Haven't seen any reports yet of anyone able to book FP+ for Test Track, though.

There's basically no chance of that. The old FP machines won't have RFID scanners. So once the changeover is made to RFID tickets/Magic Bands, there won't be any way to use the old machines. Cheshire Figment explained this on one of the previous FP+ threads.

True, but the CM today said that everyone will eventually be issued an RFID ticket, even day passes. So, they won't get a paper FP, but they'll be able to swipe their ticket and receive an assigned return time.

I spoke to a CM at BOG the other day who said it will have a big effect on dining because guests can reserve and even order meals.

That seems strange, why would they require a swipe when the whole system is switching to the app? And what would they swipe, the current FP machines? Would they all be converted to some new technology? Why would they do that when people can use the phones or kiosks?

I wonder if V.P. Nick Franklin and company are really backing off their statement of three FP. Based on the number crunching it would be hard to find enough FP+ at four each for visitors at Epcot and animal kingdom.

Maybe if they branched out the tiers more. 4 FP+ total. 1 e ticket, 2 regular attractions, and 1 CS meal, parade spot or fireworks?

If it is only three FP+, it would be hard to use one for a speedy lunch order.

I don't know, bur he did assure me it would all be done by the time I have my DVC trip end of August...

So a local, not using FP+ will access regular Fastpass using their RFID card at a kiosk. But if I use myMagic+ I will be able to prebook some number ahead of time and use my app for all other business. That sounds workable. We have seen the kiosks, that would make sense.

I wonder how many of the kiosks will be available? The lines could get long around them.

I'm guessing that FP+ is ONLY for ATTRACTIONS and SHOWS (fireworks, parades, etc) and that any use for dining will not count against your FP allotment.
Wristbands/RFID device would just be used as a "gateway connection" for ADR's and food ordering.

They did this at hurricane harbor water park. You would swipe your wrist band at a kiosk. You picked the water ride you wanted from a list with return times. I guess if you forget your return time you can swipe at the kiosk again and it would tell the return time.

Did he more more FP then the 4? Or just be able to get FP when you get there in case you didn't book any?

I didn't ask, so I can't say. I could give you my guess, but that's all it would be....
I would guess you could use the in park system to your hearts content, within whatever the in park parameters are at the time (like the window system they have now). That would keep from becoming an issue all the hoards of guests that will otherwise crowd guest relations with things like "well, an ADR opened up in Epcot and I have my ride in MK and no hopper". The CM can say, that's fine, you can go to a kiosk and pick a new FP from what's available....
