Hi from Calgary, Canada. Please add us to the roll call: Holly, DH (Andy), DD
(3.5 yo), DD (10 months at time of cruise), VGT room. This will be our first disney cruise and we are super excited :)

Welcome! We will also have a four-year-old and a nine-month-old, plus my nieces who will be 6 and 3. :)

In our house it's not just the guys. My Dad, my husband and I are all engineers. The three of us are all very excited now before it was just two! It's just that my dad has a time to read the book and memorize the facts. This way we don't have to read the book but we get the story.

I started the big heavy book but couldn't get too far, just too detailed for me:blush:. I did read the Panama Canal by Cruise Ship which is more for tourists so gained enough info for me to be able to understand more.

There should be lectures onboard about the building of the canal. Both PC cruises we have done had them, some geared to adults and one geared to families each time. John went to the adult ones and I went to the family one;):rotfl2: . They were very good. They were also on the TV at some point. They were given by an ex Panama Canal pilot who also commentated over the PA system during the PC crossing at the interesting times. It was also on the TV so you could see it in your rooms too with more onboard cameras showing what was outside. Cooler and peaceful.

We went on a wonderful Alaska cruise last year. They had Forest Ranger talks and glacier commentary. The kids groups had one too (former MS teacher). I love the educational piece to the cruise.

Someone had indicated that the PC cruise would have something similar. I'm glad you shared what they do, it's going to be great! We are from Northern Illinois, sitting AC when it gets hot will be a good thing too!

DH went to NIU.

Can someone tell me what VGT and OGT mean?

Disney came up with new discounted catagories a couple years ago. They are similiar to GTY except you have to pay in full and non-refundable. The "V" is veranda, "O" ocean view and "I" inside.

Hey everyone - I've been "off the grid" for a few days, just really busy with work and then we did our Valentines dinner at Blue Zoo in the Swan/Dolphin last night (highly recommend!)

It feels like this cruise is just around the corner now! :hyper:

So just wondering if anyone booked anything today. We are keeping our streak up with DCL WBPC cruises and booked and paid the deposit for 5/2/14. I would have liked the southern rout but I don't like the idea of trying to fly SB San Juan and it has way to many port days for me to enjoy a cruise. I like sea days and port days too, but that only had one sea day. If it were like the 11 night a few years ago out if PC I would have booked in a heartbeat.

Sent from my iPhone 5 using DISBoards

We just booked the Westbound TA in fall 2014 - the one that ends in Puerto Rico. I see Annichan on that roll call too! ;)

Well this cough Brought me to the hospital today I could not breath . Now sure if. It is the congestionn or my myasthenia gravis disease causing problems keep me in your good thoughts

Oh my word! I hope you feel better soon. Thinking of you!

The guys seem to love the Panama Canal. I wonder if it is all the technical stuff etc. It was the only way I got my husband to ever cruise was me suggesting doing a Panama Canal one for MY 60th birthday!!!Anywhere else would have got short shift but for that he thought about it and said yes. He loved it and this one will be our 3rd. Even thinking about next year's too.

My husband is crazy about it too. There was actually a Panama Canal Museum in Tampa (recently closed/moved locations) that he's been to - and he's reading and watching whatever he can get his hands on.

I've seen smaller locks when doing a river cruise, they are neat but I'm not nearly a jazzed about the whole canal as he is!

I'm in printing mode today...finishing up my magnets and some name tags.....I'm offering my help if somebody needs name tags. Please send me PM here and let me know. Not forcing anyone...just offering help to those who can't make them.

Ugh! I need to get a move on about my magnets. Thanks for the reminder :goodvibes

Welcome. You will have a fantastic fun time.
I understand completely. I found the big book on tape. I would listen to it in the car. I think it was 8 tapes and about 10 hours of listening. if I had to read it I never would have made it through.

annichan - I figured this is Meghatron 's baby - but if I can put my $.02's worth in - I'd be tempted to just make it an standing get-together, kind of like the Crafter's Cove or the FOG. ;)
Not knowing which shows or other entertainment are scheduled for any given night makes me reluctant to lock down specific dates. How does 2pm (families) and 10pm (adults only) at Diversions sound? If specific groups want to plan for specific games, they can work something out or we just show up & see who brought what.

You are totally right, Meghatron came up with the Game Night/s and I certainly didn't want to take the initiative away from her, but as far as I understood, she meant the roleplaying and hardcore boardgame nights, but was not as interested in playing party games. Let me know if I am wrong!

I like your suggestion of having a standing get-together for the games! First I thought we should limit it to a couple of nights because by stretching it to so many dates, we may never end up with a big group because everybody would just come over a couple of times, and we may never catch each other.
But then again - no problem with that; if I find myself alone with DH and my game, we will either play it just by ourselves or at least take advantage of the fact that we are in Diversions, and enjoy a beer :)

So long story short, I'll add the standing date to the event calendar! If you or anybody else comes up with more / different suggestions, just let me know and I'll edit it.

You've booked the WBTA too? Great! I am so incredibly excited about having two 14-night Disney cruises ahead of me, I can hardly contain myself!

Oh, and are you as overwhelmed as I am with the activity on the WBTA thread? There is absolutely no way I'm going to be able to keep up! :confused3 ;)

It's actually my husband's baby, as he is the voracious gamer and game designer. (We are actually at a gaming convention right now!) But he's not on the DIS so I've been helping over here in addition to his thread on FB. I think the standing day/time is a good idea, as it takes the management burden off of people on vacation. And I'm very grateful to annichan and others for picking up the topic when I couldn't keep up. It really shouldn't be seen as "my thing" because what people want and bring will ultimately decide what gets played. I'd be perfectly happy with a single game of Cards Against Humanity. ;)

I have Pirate Fluxx, Space Fluxx, and Zombie Fluxx that I am adding to my bag. I like think those times are great and leaves it open to everyone. I am thinking about bringing some of my Munchkin decks too.
We just bought Pirate and Space Fluxx! Oh well - the more the merrier!

Meghatron - glad to hear I wasn't stepping on your toes by proposing a standing time for Game Nights. Perhaps the hardcore/roleplay gamers should plan a couple of specific sessions to ensure there are enough players for what they want to do?
The Fluxx games should only require 2 people (but can handle up to 6) and Munchkin can be 3-6 people as well.

We've started designing our door magnets - but haven't decided whether to do the magnet printer paper or print on photo paper & stick magnets on. I still have FE gifts to work on, but don't want to get too far into those until I know how many cabins to plan for.

I'm a long time lurker coming out of hiding! We want to participate in the FE, so I had to join!

We will be on this cruise too. It's me, my husband, daughter and two sons. (I can't bring myself to use the acronyms yet! I'm sure I'll get over that soon.)

Welcome! Happy to hear more kids are on the boat! Mine are 7 and 10, sneaking out of school for this adventure!
