SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Information & Questions

The sizes of both the room & bathroom, more closet space, not pulling a curtain across the dressing/bathroom area and the indoor hall access make it more deluxe than mod.

We stayed at POFQ and had a great time but Shades is still our choice:)

Thank you for the info. We stayed at the Contemporary when we had kids under 10 yrs old. Now that we have teenagers, we appreciate the space at SOG so much! I haven't seen any other deluxe hotel rooms, so I wasn't sure how they compared.

Also planning an August trip and wondering how the fastpass+ thing will work for people staying at SOG or using military tickets. But trying to just go with the flow for now and hope good solid info comes out about the new system well before my trip.

I would like to know more about the fast pass + system myself. I heard it was something new they are implementing, but have not heard anything from anyone who has used it yet.

I am new here and just finding this post! DH is national guard and I must say this place is BEAUTIFUL by the photos on page 22 of this thread! It will be me, DH & DS who will be 3 at the time of the trip. When we have gone to Disney before we have stayed at POP Century. The only thing holding me back is not being able to get the dining plan however with the menus I guess I can budget. The character meals are not important as our DS is scared of them to come anywhere close to him. Also, everyone keeps saying the meals at SOG are terrible....is this true?

I haven't heard much info about the fast pass+ in the last few weeks, so maybe it's just not been integrated enough yet to get solid reviews of the system.

To the other question, unfortunately the food situation at SOG isn't ideal. I don't care for any of the onsite restaurants really, the only one my family and I ever use on our trips is maybe Breakfast at Garden Gallery (standard breakfast fare, nothing fancy). However, even the not great dining situation doesn't deter me from staying at SOG. You can easily walk to the Poly for some great dining options and of course there's lots of dining options at DTD that offer easy access.

To me the positives of SOG outweigh the negatives associated with the food at SOG (though I do wish they'd try to do something about that).

I have one other question we will be flying in to the Sanford International Airport and I am wondering what is the best/cheapest way to get from the airport to shades of green?!

You really can't go wrong with the breakfast buffet. Lots of fruit and made to order omlettes. We've usually gone when they've included free buffets for 3 or 4 days. We have used the free dinner buffet when offered. It's fine but if it wasn't free we wouldn't bother.

And another towncar here!

Yeah, another confirmation for breakfast buffet being fine (and cheap) but the rest not so good.

We do enjoy the take out items from the express cafe by the bus stop - breakfast sandwiches are great, fruit/yogurt/cereal is wonderful, muffins are FABULOUS. Also, the make nice sandwiches - just nice, fresh, hand made while you're waiting sandwiches. Perfect when you're coming back midday. We find we use them a LOT fro breakfast and lunch.

Anyway, you'll love the amount of space you have in your room vs Pop, and if you're not doing character meals then the dining plan doesn't ever really save you money. You'll do find just ordering two meals for yourself and sharing with DS. When you're not on the dining plan you have no problem doing that. :)

Also, I think that some of the other resorts can be overwhelming for little kids, so I think you'll enjoy the serenity of SOG with your son. I know that it was a lifesaver for my nephew (very energetic ADHD 6 year old). It was like an instant calming influence for him. I can't imagine how he would have been if we had been at one of the other resorts where even at the pools everything was bright and loud.

Yes, the food situation is terrible at Shades. However, this has never had a negative impact on our trips since there are soooooo many options throughout the parks and other resorts. And with Poly right across the street, it's no big deal. Please don't let this stop you from trying Shades. You won't be disappointed.

I have actually been reading your trip report! We officially booked our hotel and flight today!! We are so excited! The lady at SOG told me we can buy our park tickets there am I reading it correct that it is 156.00 each for 4 day park hoppers?! Also does anyone know if my DS has to have a ticket if he is 2?!
I am sorry I have all these questions. Also, do you have a town car service you reccomend to and from the airport? Our flight for home leaves at 7:00am so not sure how many have services that early and will they stop at a store on the way or is drinks at aafes a good price?

We always use FL TOURS they sponsor this board, and we love them! :)

Yes it is correct. $156 for a 4 day hopper and 2 and under don't need tickets! Yay!!!
We've always used sun ray transportation.

we've always used Tiffany Town car. Love them. Most will make a grocery stop if you need it. It is pretty standard.

Also, about a week or so before your tri you'll get an email asked if you want to preorder your tickets. Do it. They'll be waiting for you at check in. Just remember, the military passes must be activated after you purchase them. This can be done at any ticket window or TTC or DTD. We generally check in, get our tickets, go over to TTC, activate them, go find lunch or dinner and go swimming on our first day if we're not checking in.

We have always used sun state transportation - on the SOG website. On time, friendly, reasonable, will use again.

We just went before Christmas this past year & now I really want to go back again that same week this year. Let me just tell those of you with small children.....going back with teenagers was so great!!!!

So excited, we're booking our next trip in the morning. Hubby is a police officer so we had to wait to get his vacation dates approved. We're booking 3 rooms because my inlaws are going as well as BiL and Sil and nephews. We loved the SoG when we stayed 2 years ago.
My FiL is a Vietnam vet who suffers panic attacks and he's leary to fly, he wants to take the train - anyone have any experience with it? I would much rather fly.
My hubby and I were both in the Navy and thank God we didn't come out with issues like my FiL did. So sad :(
