Update on Target Debit card limit

You can also pay for your purchases in the on board shops with gift cards and you can apply them to your on board account at Guest Services on deck 3.

Also they have the $50 gift cards coded two ways. The ones by electronics have one bar code and the ones at the checkout have another bar code.

Sooooo, when the electronics guy tells you they do not have any more in the store when he checks inventory after you buy him out (5 of them), do not panic.

Go directly to the front checkout and look in the area where they sell the gum, tic tacs etc. There will be about a hundred more hidden up there.

I bought what I needed and left plenty for anyone else that came along.
Yet, no guilt for buying out the ones in electronics, lol.

I did have a panic minute as the cruise approached.

I know the feeling. I cleared off 4 or 5 pegs when I bought $2050 worth of gift cards last month.

Anyone think that they will still honor this deal today??

Nothing indicates that it's going to change anytime soon. Also, if you use the Target pharmacy, they send out 5% coupons at times which will stack with the Red Card 5% savings for a total of 10% off.

They had a nice deal just before Christmas, giving a $10 target gift card back with each $50 purchase, and yes, it worked how you think it might.

I picked up $600 in gift cards for $500 and even got a $10 gift card back with the last purchase.

If I apply for the debit card in store, do they process the application immediately so I can use the card for a shopping trip that day?

They process it immediately a and give you a temporary card printed on a receipt to use immediately....got mine today!!

Oh great! Thanks for that info. But based on some earlier posts, it sounds like I'll be limited to only ~$100 in purchases for the initial uses? We usually spend way more than that on our Target trips.

I have no idea what the limit would be...they don't tell you not is it printed anywhere on the temp card receipt I got....would be nice to know though. Perhaps when I get my permanent card in 7-10 days I will have more info.

Folks on the various Target threads on DIS (there is a big one on the Budget board) all say Target doesn't tell you what the debit limit is but there definitely is some secret limit and it various based on purchase history with that card.

I signed up for the pharmacy program and checked more into it when I hadn't received my coupon after quite a few prescriptions. When I went on line it said "not eligible" next to each prescription. It appears that in some of the fine print (or not so fine that I just happened to skip over lol), that prescriptions in NJ are not eligible for accrual towards the extra 5% coupon. Oh well - guess ill just have to wait for when they send them out sporadically throughout the year!

I always save up my free or gifted Target gift cards to pay for my prescriptions, since you can't get 5% off your presciptions.

My first purchase had at least $350 limit. That's what he tried and it worked. They allowed me to put the balance on Disney Visa and gave me a courtesy 5% discount on that amount since the limit was low.

Like many, I've been reading with interest regarding the invisible limits on purchases. We went in today and purchased $2000 on our Target debit card in one transaction, and there was absolutely no issue. The 5% pharmacy rewards applied, bringing the total to 1900, which the debit card took 5% off of. Transaction was approved quickly and without hassle. I think the team member was actually a bit disappointed that they didn't have to do anything interesting! :) Immediately afterwards, we did a separate transaction of ~$80 of random stuff -- no problem with the same Target debit card here either.

We use our Target debit card about once a month (and have been doing so for about a year and a half). Our regular transactions are between $50 and $150. Our previous max transaction had been $250.

Prior to the purchase, we had called Target, who had said that there were no transaction limits because the Target card will only authorize transactions that the bank authorizes at point of sale (just like any credit card). I realize this goes against everything that everyone else has been reporting. We also called our bank, who does not have checking account transaction limits, but does have daily limits when using THEIR debit card. The bank assured us that those transaction limits would not apply since we were NOT using the bank-issued card for the Target transaction.

Hope this helps someone!

Actually, it comes out to a little less than 10%, about 9.75% because they take off 5% and then another 5% off that subtotal, not 10% right off the top. I wouldn't want someone to think they didn't get the full discount. It's pretty close, but not a full 10%.
