Nemesis Challenge 2

I have taken a break from running for a while. This week I started the Insanity program by Beach Body. This thing is no joke and my muscles are screaming. Let's hope I can keep it up. Perhaps I should have started with a program that's a little less intense.

BUMP - Didn't want to lose the thread to page 2.::yes::

Thanks for the bump, Jim!

How's the running going guys? I was supposed to go to 2 miles this week, but my knee was bothering me, so I stuck to 1.5. Foam rolling really helps though. Plus, I don't want to get hurt before Disney next week. Hope all are doing well!

Mostly walking at this point for me. The knee has been pretty swollen and I don't want to push too hard on it. Walking about 2 miles a day though and can actually climb a whole flight of stairs without support. That's heading in the right direction. Still shooting for 5K Memorial Day weekend and 10K on July 4th. If I can make those, I think I'll be well on my way.

Good luck dads! Keep training.

Sounds like a good plan. Don't want to get injured! I ran 1.5 miles today in 20:27! *Ratio of 1-1.5 minute run to 1.5-2 minute walks. Knee feels good. Didnt push it to*2 miles today due to concerns about hurting myself before Disney. Keep it up guys!

put myself in a little time out from jogging. Thinking I may e getting shun splints. Was having and isse before I even started doing this. Will see what a little time off does hope to get back at it this week.

Carl I've had issues with shinsplints too. You may find that compression socks or compression calf sleeves help with that. The compression socks are also supposed to help you recover faster.

You sure they are actually shin splints? Sometimes those muscles on the shins get sore when they haven't been used in a while.

I dont know I wont go to a doctor to find out.I have had these pains for months. I have been asking several people what hey think they may be but unless I go to a doctor I will never truly know lol. I thought it was just tight muscles so I was pushing through it when I started jogging. but the pain is more like an electric shock feeling running through my shin. So I will get back at it and see what happens.I still havent got a good pair of shoes yet,and am running outside on asphalt so I think that might be part of it.Either way I will have to get back on track for the 23rd.

I couldn't agree more. They are the single greatest investment you can make for running. Trust me, once you start using the right shoe, tons of aches and pains that you have while running will disappear.

And don't forget the socks! Pick up a few pair of moisture-wicking, dri-fit, technical, running, (or whatever that brand calls them) socks. You can get them at Target in a 3 pack for like $15. Your feet will thank you.

And I will pile on here. A very wise person told me that it is important to learn the difference between pain and injury. You can run through pain, you cannot run through injury. If it is been persistent after you get some good shoes you should probably check with your doctor. Learn from Tim's experience....

All right all right I will go get running shoes soon. Here I thought my knee would be the problem not my shins.

Had my orthopedic doctors appointment yesterday. I have been cleared to start light training again. Good news is that I didn't fracture my leg while running in the 1/2. Basically the xrays showed that the muscle has pulled away from the bone on my fibula. The space between the muscle and the fibula, new bone is growing. It can take up to 6 months for the tenderness and pain to be 100% gone. He did clear me for non-impact exercising, ie swimming, bike, elliptical, and weight lighting. In conjunction with that, I can also start running again but slowly. Like a mile at a time.

I've been in remodeling hell at my house for the last week. Hopefully I can start some training next week and get ready for the 5k in 4 weeks.

Glad it was something that will heal on it's own and nothing too serious. Hopefully the pain will go away. Still working towards a 5K around July.

Good luck with the remodeling. I think next time we'll just pay someone and go on vacation while they do it. Always takes me 3x as long and I always have to go back and fix the things I screw up the first time.:sad2:

Now that they added a 10K the Pirate Princess may want to run the Dopey. 5K, 10K, Half and the Full. Four t-shirts and 6 medals for the low, low price of around $500. She asked if anyone else thinking about it? I promised her I would train for the 5K and walk it with her.

Also, when reservations open up, I am going to book Il Mulino the night before the Half so she can carb up. It has great revues and I have wanted to try that restaurant for a while. It is early I know but if anyone else is interested, let me know. I'll also do a reminder as we get closer. The more the merrier. Their website is http://www.swandolphinrestaurants.com/ilmulino/index.html
