4 Night Wonder out of Miami (update 3/1-Complete)

Great update. Photos, and comparisons. :thumbsup2 I like the honest perspectives too especially about the food.

Also never gave any thought to the bonus of being able to sleep with an inside state room. I'm a very very light sleeper. That's something to consider. :goodvibes

Thanks! Most of the food we had was great, and there was no problem finding something else if we encountered something bad.

The inside stateroom was almost like being in a cocoon. No noise, no light, just peaceful. Definitely something to consider.

Great updates, Pam!

I'm hoping to catch up on a few movies on the Fantasy when we sail in a few weeks. Oz will be just released, and I'd like to see both Lincoln and Wreck It Ralph. Funny how these schedules just get so filled up -- can't forget to relax, either!!

Thank you! I'm so excited about Oz. I'm sure they'll have it as one of our evening 'shows'. Last year John Carter came out the weekend before and that's what they did. It was so cool. Wreck-It Ralph was great, I'd like to see it again if it works with the busy schedule. Yes, we must plan in some relaxation time :) I like those words 'sail in a few weeks'. Makes me happy :teeth:

I can't imagine staying onboard on CC day, I'm absolutely in love with that place! I did miss a sea day. I have 3 of them on the upcoming cruise and I'm really looking forward to them. I wanted to take mom to Wreck-It Ralph but it didn't work out time wise. That movie is so cute!

That must have been it. The thought didn't even cross my mind :)

I know.. I'm weird that way. I live in the Ocean State and don't care for the beach. I never even bother packing a swimsuit anymore either since I stay out of the sun and the pools.

Thanks so much for posting all your pictures and sharing your experiences on the wonder. We will be our on first DCL cruise on May 2nd for the 4 night out of Miami! Can't wait!!!

Sorry I am sooooo late!
I just read your whole TR and I am loving it :cool1:
We are going to be cruising on The Wonder in June (Alaska) and having only done two previous cruises, one on The Dream and one on The Fantasy, I must admit I was a little worried that I would find the Wonder to be a bit of a let down, but seeing your pictures has totally changed my mind :goodvibes
It looks fab!
Keep it coming :thumbsup2

Admittedly the water was too cold for me, but I love all the tropical foliage and lunch at Serenity Bay is so delicious. Apparently I could swim before I could walk, so if there's a beach to be on I'm there!

Awesome! You're going to love it! :cool1:

More to come, hopefully soon. :)

No worries, plenty more to talk about. :) thanks for coming over!

I must admit I was a little bit worried myself, but all worries melted away the second I saw that gorgeous lobby. There are some things I prefer on the Dream but now I'm totally in love with the Wonder as well.

Oooohhh, Alaska! You're going to have a fabulous time!

I left off with us finishing lunch at BBB. By this time we both realized we would not be getting off to explore Key West so we just relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the day. We went out to the Quiet Cove where I found a table to catch up in my journal and mom went up to Deck 10 to enjoy the sun. Around 2:15 I remembered the Nassau shopping seminar Maxine was hosting and I really wanted a chance at winning something else. Since she had given mom the extra raffle ticket I figured we had a good chance so went up and told mom what my plans were. I was totally fine with going alone but she was happy to go with me. We needed to go back to the room to grab the raffle ticket and then headed down to the Promenade Lounge. Maxine advised us to sit in the front row because she had lots of goodies to give away and people in the front row tended to get them. Hmmm, that didnt exactly happen but it was a very educating seminar. It was an hour long and Maxine went over all the worthy shops in Nassau. Apparently Disney has done a lot of research on which shops sell authentic merchandise at the best prices. She went over jewelry, clothing, watches, and rum cakes. We were given a map of where all the shops were so were well prepared if we wanted to go shopping. We didnt win the diamonds but mom did win some hair clips that change color in the sun. Maxine would be doing another raffle at Diamonds International on Nassau between 11-noon the next day which we decided wed go to. You cant win if you dont play right?

It was a little after 4:00 and we went back to the room to drop off all the papers Maxine gave us and then headed back up to the Rainforest Room. We were actually planning on missing the show of the evening, The Golden Mickeys, since we had seen that on the Dream. Palo dinner was scheduled for 7:30 so we had a few hours to relax. First we stopped at the beverage station and then went over and got some icecream. I hadnt had icecream yet! I had banana and blueberry and mom had vanilla. The wind was absolutely ferocious and we battled our way towards the spa. Well, the Cove Café was on the way and why not stop in and see what goodies they had.

Counterclockwise starting at the bottom: an oatmeal/raisen bar, brownie/cookie bar, and mom called the last one a blondie.

DisneyWonderJanuary2013160.jpg

The place was packed so we took our treats outside, and the wind was so blustery I almost lost the plate. I held on tight and we found ourselves some shelter near the windows. Mom loved the blondie, the brownie part was good but the cookie part tasted like it was made with molasses which I dont care for, and the oatmeal raisen was nice and moist. On the Dream the CMs have to serve you but on the Wonder you can serve yourself. After we had finished I took the plate back to them, figured it would get thrown around by the wind, and the CM didnt even give me a smile of thanks.

Then off to the spa. Included in the cruise length pass was 5 scrubs and we were asked to choose which ones we liked. I think there were five different ones, some were sugar and others were salt. We got 2 lavender, 2 orange and 1 orange/vanilla. We spent a couple hours just relaxing and reading going from the gentle sauna room to the loungers back to the gentle sauna room. You can see the pattern. Ill post the picture again to show you our favorite place.

There was only one other person enjoying a lounger while we were in there. The whole cruise it felt like we had our own personal Rainforest Room. We left around 6:30 and headed back to the room to change for Palo. We had a message from DVC saying that if we knew what Kidani meant in Swahili we would get a prize down at the DVC podium. In true DVC fashion they would help us figure out the answer so we would know for next time. Also, Maxine was giving out a special ship charm between 6:30-8:30 at her shopping desk so we wanted to go do both of those things before dinner.

Mom was a hoot and a half trying to figure out what Kidani meant. Neither of us knew and Justin had his entertainment of the evening trying to help mom along. She even left the podium and asked fellow guests down the hallway if they knew the answer. I had told her the message said they would help us if we didnt know, but she was having fun. Apparently the answer is necklace& Kidani looks like a necklace from the air? I cant see it but maybe you guys can. I cant for the life of me remember what the prize was. Then down to Maxine to get our charms where we chatted a little about Palo before heading back to the room to drop off our new goodies.

We got to Palo a little early, around 7:15, but they were happy to take us in after a few short minutes of waiting. A little backstory before going forward. On our first cruise we had Palo booked for the last night but we ended up canceling because we were enjoying our tablemates so much. In the planning phases for this cruise I asked mom if shed like to try Palo and she kept saying no, it was a new ship and we already had plenty to explore. Well Alison posted about her Palo experience and I decided to book it. I figured we could cancel if mom really didnt want to go. So as were walking to the table mom says Ive really been looking forward to this. Hmmm& maybe you shouldnt have discouraged me from making a reservation. To say that the evening was magnificent was an understatement. Hristo from Bulgaria was our server and he went above and beyond. The whole evening was so relaxed and so delicious we couldnt have had a better time.

I was looking forward to that antipasto cart!

DisneyWonderJanuary2013174.jpg

He had put the peppers on the plate before we could stop him, neither of us care for peppers, but the rest was delicious. The cheese and balsamic vinegar topped the cake though.

DisneyWonderJanuary2013177.jpg

Deliciously fresh bread

DisneyWonderJanuary2013178.jpg

We both started with the Mozzarella and Plum Tomatoes with Balsamic Dressing. The mozzarella was hiding underneath the tomatoes, so delicious.

DisneyWonderJanuary2013179.jpg

Mom also had the Grilled Portobello Mushroom and Polenta with a Roasted Shallot Sauce. She said this was magnificent.

DisneyWonderJanuary2013182.jpg

She also had the Fresh Arugula Salad with special Palo's Dressing. She said it was god but didnt need to have it.

DisneyWonderJanuary2013175.jpg

I had the calamari. It was ok, I prefer the tentacles and didnt finish them all.
DisneyWonderJanuary2013180.jpg

Hristo then brought us a pallet cleanser of freshly made lemon sorbet. Very yummy.

DisneyWonderJanuary2013183.jpg

Then on to the entrees, mom had the gnocchi in cream sauce which was superb!

DisneyWonderJanuary2013186.jpg

And a small portion of the Wild Mushroom and Hazelnut Risotto

DisneyWonderJanuary2013187.jpg

I had the sea bass which has to be one of the most delicious fish dishes I’ve ever had. The accompanying vegetables were very delicious as well.

DisneyWonderJanuary2013185.jpg

I also had a small portion of the gnocchi

DisneyWonderJanuary2013188.jpg

Hristo had promised us some more of that delicious cheese earlier and he brought it out while we were eating our entrees

DisneyWonderJanuary2013190.jpg

A new table had just been seated behind us and was asking about zucchini, well Hristo said there was a side dish of fried zucchini that comes with one of the meat dishes and I really wanted to try it. When he came back around I asked him if it would be much trouble to make us some and he was more than happy to oblige. It came while we were waiting for our chocolate soufflés that he said we both had to have.

DisneyWonderJanuary2013191.jpg

The zucchini was really good, the chef had made it fresh for us and it was very tasty.

Then came the soufflés

Before the sauce

DisneyWonderJanuary2013192.jpg

After the sauce

DisneyWonderJanuary2013193.jpg

Mine was a bit doughy so I didn’t finish it. Mom was more than happy to have more but she said mine was definitely cooked less than hers. Hristo came around and gave us the dessert menu, just in case we had room or desire to try something else. How could we not, there were so many things to try!

Mom had the tiramisu. She liked it but would go for the soufflé again. Sorry this is blurry

DisneyWonderJanuary2013196.jpg

I had some kind of dense orange cake that was really good

DisneyWonderJanuary2013195.jpg

The chef came out and chatted with us for a few minutes

DisneyWonderJanuary2013198.jpg

And we were given a non-alcoholic lemon drink at the end of the meal. He had come out with alcoholic ones but quickly whisked them away when I said we don’t care for alcohol.

DisneyWonderJanuary2013199.jpg

We settled up the bill and left very happy. I was not stuffed to the gills as I expected I would be because each course had quite a bit of time between each other. It was very relaxing. I think we walked around Deck 10 for a little bit to see if we could see any stars and then made our way back to the room.

Happy Valentine's Day everybody!

I have some very exciting news to share. I am lucky enough to be off work and was able to book the WBTA this morning. I am so excited! That will be in September 2014. The only problem is that it will push back my Hawaii plans to 2015. I want to stay in Hawaii at least 10 if not 14 days and those two trips in one year is not feasible with work.

I'm really excited :bitelip:

Wonderful Update! :goodvibes
Just what I needed this morning!
So many wonderful food pics. That cheese looks so good as does the zucchini! Mmm.

I would love to do a TA, just hasn't worked out timing-wise for us yet.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I have a hold on that cruise too! Right now I am planning to take my mom for her 60th birthday present!

Everything was very delicious! The cheese itself was so good but it was the balsamic that made it over the top.

Congrats! That's very exciting! :goodvibes

I am glad that you finally made it to Palo and that you enjoyed it. I am glad that Hristo took good care of you. Isn't he fabulous. The Portobello Mushroom and Polenta appetizer is one of my all time favourites.

Congratulation on getting the WBTA booked.

Corinna

Hristo was our server too! He took GREAT care of us, I'm glad he did so for you too!

That zucchini looks really tasty! I can't wait until we get to go to Palo again even if it is on the Magic!

Congrats on the WBTA! I need to look over some of the itineraries and figure out what we want to do for 2014 and when and how to combine it with a trip to WDW to save on airfare.
