2/15/2013 - 8 Night Western Cruise, Galveston, TX

we're also at harbor house but won't get there until probably midnight tomorrow so doubt we'll be up to see the ship come in as we'll be on California time!

We're at the Harbor House too and hoping to see that gorgeous ship at the docks when we wake up. :cool1:

Today is finishing up the packing list and checking it twice. I'm sure I won't be able to concentrate on anything else today.

Safe travels everyone. See you real soon! :cheer2:

One thing to note. We have friends at WDW right now. They are telling me it is crazy busy, and it's not even the presidents week yet. So plan accordingly, but I have been lowering my kids expectations of how many rides they will be able to do.

Grrr...that stinks! My kids still have no idea we're even going to WDW so any rides will be good for them but it still stinks. That's one reason we like traveling in February - no crowds! At least all we're planning on doing is the new Fantasyland. :)

Safe travels to all those travelling today and tomorrow! Can't wait to meet all y'all on Friday. :)

Gina, I'll be here checking the boards until 5 pm tomorrow. I was actually considering working Friday morning, since we only work half days on Friday, but I was afraid that would put us at the port too late.

I have passed excited and am now in full-on stressed!! :scared1: I'm not even sure why. We're basically packed, except for last minute stuff, but I'm sure I'll still forget something. I'm never this done this far ahead, and I still feel out of control. I feel like I'm forgetting to do something, but I don't know what. My house is a disaster, but with all our cats it will be much worse when we get home. Two of the cats have been sick, but seem to be doing better now. I think this is what is stressing me. What if they get sicker while we are away? Our cat-sitter is great, but if they are sick they will hide and he won't see them. And we are completely out of reach for all but 2 days. I'm thinking that maybe we shouldn't go now, but I don't think my travel insurance covers pet illness. :sad2: I'm usually thrilled to get away, but today i just want to sit down and cry. :sad1: Of course, I haven't had much sleep this week either.

Sorry for the rant. I'm even more stressed than I realized. Just found out that Maggie is going to miss a Math test on Friday, so I'm trying to get that worked out. Luckily, this teacher is great and will work with us. Looks like she might be able to take it before school on Friday (I'm signing her out at lunchtime.) She has a Science assignment due Friday, but that's already done and will be turned in tomorrow. We'll worry about what she's going to miss next week when we get back. ;)

Anyone have any Prozac??? :)

Awe! I'm so sorry to hear about your kitties! We bought some special treats that our cat loves but rarely gets (she's fat enough!) and told the cat sitter to shake them. When the kitty hears it, she comes running from wherever she is. That way the sitter knows she's ok and can love on her a little. Maybe your kitties will do the same?

It sounds like you're like me. There seem to still be so many little things to do and yet I'm stuck just kind of waiting, trying to figure out what they are. I'm packing now (in between meetings...nice thing about working from home) but DD6 has Girl Scouts tonight and we're leaving tomorrow when she gets out of school. We won't get to Houston until around 8 and both my dad and my mom (they're divorced but both live in Houston) want to see the girls for Valentine's Day. I know they got them stuff for the trip for V-day but my kids are usually in bed by 7:30 and we have to be up at 6 to get read to head to the ship!! I don't know how I'm going to have time to do everything in the next 48 hours when so many things are taking up my time.

Well dang....I think we both need some Prozac! Maybe some should have come with our cruise documentation!! :rotfl2:

Hi--does anyone know if the pools are heated? seems too cold for swimming now to me. Thanks. grandkids will probably think it's fine.

I think somebody said they are heated when it gets below a certain temp... Now I can't remember what temp that was. But to me, it doesn't matter how warm the water is -- it's getting out that is the killer, lol. I'm sure you're right in that it won't matter to your grandkids... One time at Castaway Cay, that water was so dang cold my son's lips were blue! Didn't bother him for a second. :) I, however, was huddled under three beach towels, lol.

Our sailaway weather is looking so good, I am beside myself. Mostly sunny and upper 60's, and just like my "personal met" :thumbsup2 said, we'll be missing the cold front by around 12 hours -- It's going to be 10 degrees cooler on Saturday. That would make for a much chillier sailaway!! Ours is going to be stellar. :goodvibes

One more hour of work today... I swear the clock is going backwards every time I look at it!! :faint:

I'm of the mindset that as long as I'm not flying and having to pay extra for it, packing light is for hiking trips through the Himalayas or something.. lol. I don't decide ahead of time what clothes I'm going to wear each day, aside from formal stuff... Or which shoes... Or which hair accessories... I want options, dang it!! :p Of course, that's why we have two big suitcases, one medium, one pilot case, one carryon tote, and a garment bag for two people... LOL. And I still have crap I need to cram in there somehow!!

-gina-

OK, this is SO me too! I loathe 'planning' outfits ahead of time! Who knows what I'll feel like wearing on any given day? Let's just we are using up ALL of our luggage tags! :)

I could kiss you, Lori -- You just made me realize that I completely forgot to attach the DCL luggage tags!!! Thank you for the reminder!! :-)

I'm in Galveston!

Long 2 days of driving, but I am now relaxing in the hotel looking out the window and can still make out the gulf in the dark.

I couldn't sleep at all in the hotel last night on the way here. My DS 5 shard my bed and about 3am I wondered why he had not yelled at me yet for flopping all around! I am so excited! Hoping to be able to sleep more tonight now that I am here.

Loved the Disney stories and picture of Tyler Dean.

Can hardly wait to meet everyone on Friday. :cool1:

Welcome to Texas, y'all! ;) enjoy your extra day in Galveston!

Just to make anyone who is stressing feel better, my suitcases are still empty! I simply ran out of time today. Fortunately, I'm now home from Girl Scouts and totally wired so hopefully ill get halfway done before the night is over! :)

I am trying to finish up our FEE gifts and would love to write your cabin number on the gift tag now instead of trying to track you down on the ship!

we packed all boys stuff tonight! tomorrow we will pack our stuff. I'm not looking forward to one more looong dreadful day of work tomorrow. can't wait to meet everyone.
@Gina - I will be on here one more night.

Planning to walk along the beach tomorrow and may go on the Duck tour if they are offering it. Will call them in the morning. My youngest found a brochure on an aquarium, but I have not looked at it yet. Tonight we went for sea food and it sure was YUMMY! :thumbsup2 I never did catch the name of the place. Just a little local place that we stumbled on.

So excited, we leave tomorrow and keeping our fingers crossed that the weather is ok for the flights. Can't wait to get on that ship! My boys are looking forward to meeting new friends to hang with (and so are the girls!).

Gina, such a cute pic of your son - my kids have grown up on the ships too and that pic reminds me how quickly they grow! Makes me a little sad, lol.

Wishing everyone safe travels and we will see you on the ship!!!!!

Beth

All packed...kids in bed, alarm set to go off at 1:30am(kind of hard to excited about that). We will be leaving the house at 3am. Can't believe it's finally here!

Beth, funny you should say that, my kids grew up on the Disney ships too. My oldest was 10 on our first DCL and now she's almost 19 and in college. I was pregnant with our youngest on our first cruise. She's the only one of us that isn't Gold yet, but she will be next week. :)

See everyone onboard!

I will be pretty useless for the 4 hours I'll be at work tomorrow, I'm sure... lol. Glad a few of you are still going to be around too! We can keep each other company! :goodvibes

If it's the Aquarium Pyramid at Moody Gardens, it is SO neat... ALL of Moody Gardens is just incredible!! It is definitely an all-day place. Whatever you do, have fun!!

Thanks! It makes me a little sad too... But at the same time, I'm so happy that Tyler Dean still loves all of it as much if not more than he ever did. :earboy2:

Safe travels to you!!

I can't believe it's almost finally here either... Y'all have a safe trip!

Can't WAIT to finally meet all of you!!! :grouphug:

fatfish - We have some Prozac...for our cat...really. I wish I could share some with you and kpetty725. Try not to stress. It'll all melt away on Friday.

kpetty725 - My DD6 and DD12 are both in also in Girl Scouts. They are bummed to miss over a week of cookie selling season, but...it's for a Disney cruise....they'll get over it.

Gina - Loved your story about the pillow. We've had some wow moments from Disney too. They are just so good. This is our first Disney cruise. Can't wait to see how it compares to the other cruises we've taken.

dgmommie - My DD12 is up for a tween meet off to the side of the main meet. I hope we make it. We have a late boarding time.

Beth - I love your FE!!! You are very, very talented. I think you must be the first one to arrive in Galveston! I can't believe we're on our way tomorrow.

I'm happy to report that we're all recovering from being sick. I am the worst since I got sick last. We all got cleared to travel from our doctors.

We're almost all packed. I still have some shopping to do. I never found a formal dress. I'll just be in a 'normal' dress on formal night. I'll just call it normal night. lol

I finished me FEE gifts on Sunday, but as of now our actual FE is still not quite done. It's not gonna be pretty, but it'll be functional. We're making it out of duct tape from ideas I got on the DIS.

I've got a green mickey head with my DIS name on my tote bag and most of our luggage. Can't wait to meet everyone. We fly out tomorrow and are staying in Houston since we don't get in until after 6pm, then taking Disney transport to Galveston on Friday. Our boarding time is 12:30p-1:00p. I hope we get on in time to make the meet-up at 2:00p. If not, we'll be at the second one on 2/16 at 10:30am.

Safe travels everyone!

-Kathy

We are almost packed!!! I seriously thought I was gonna have to beg my DH and DD to FINALLY pack!!! I can not wait to leave!!!! :boat:
Maybe I'm just weird but I'm also kinda sad that our group is coming to an end. We have all looked forward to this for so long and after the cruise it's over. What a downer!!! I need a happy photo!!!

Can I join you on that Prozac? My daughter got sick Friday (sinus infection). Knowing we were going on this cruise, doctor gave her a steroid shot and an antibiotic shot along with regular antibiotic. She got better over the weekend. Then Monday all day she couldn't hear out of one ear... Back to the doc to hear it's sinus drainage blocking the ear canal and that pressure in the ear combined with the pressure outside was the reason. He put her on something that is mucinex with a decongestant. She got better again. Today, more coughing from the drainage (the hardest and longest part of having been sick to get rid of is the cough - stays for weeks even when not sick). So tonight she went to bed and at one point she coughed so hard she threw up just a little. Now she's afraid to go to sleep, and it's almost 1am! She's not sick, but that cough is not helping her to get to sleep.

Updated to add: She finally passed out from sheer exhaustion at 1:30am. It's going to be a long day... good thing she has a Valentine's party at school to look forward to. Immediately after school gets out, we drive an 8 hour drive to Galveston, so she can sleep in the car.

Happy and safe travels, everyone!

Debbie
