Progress of the Triumph

I live in Mobile and my father used to work for the cruise terminal. It is a very nice terminal and we have also heard that they have people ready to help the passengers off the ship. Some of these are even volunteers just wanting to help these poor people after their experience. I was reading an article online earlier today about the ship being towed to Mobile and the comments on the article were horrible. They were saying awful things like I think I would rather stay on the ship than be towed to Alabama. How extremely ignorant! Mobile is a very nice port city with very friendly people.

Ugh, I'm pretty sure the majority of people that leave comments on articles are really miserable teenagers whom have not yet developed a conscience ::yes::

This was reported earlier about the list:

The ship is listing to 4.5degrees and although not dangerous, the angle of the boat is 'not normal and would definitely be felt by passengers walking around',

As for Alabama, I'm sure it's a great place but it does have a reputation from it's past and because of it's current politics. And I'm not going anywhere near those issues.

Wow- I really feel for everyone onboard! I hope this whole nightmare of an ordeal is over for them, very soon!

The many reports coming in are getting to paint a rough and nasty picture on board. However I am sure the media will make it worse then it is.

I am sure the crew to doing everything they can. Sialor are one of the few proffessions where duty is very important. The safety of the vessel, cargo (in this case people) and then themselves come first. If everyone keeps thier cool they can make the best of a bad situation. The most important thing is everyone is safe.:thumbsup2

Can't even imagine. What a horrible experience. Anyone know how the fire started?

I saw an interview today with a gentleman who's mother and her boyfriend are aboard the ship and according to him, she reports there are feces everywhere, very little food, and the smell is horrible. Carnival's statement was bland.

I know this can happen on any cruise line. I was leery about Carnival while deciding on a cruise line for DS's trip. I'm glad I chose Disney.

I feel very bad for all of those stuck aboard this ship; crew and guests alike. Thankfully the good people of Mobile are there to help.

Feces everywhere????? What does that mean I wonder? People drooling everywhere.

I can definitely see how it would smell horribly. Those poor people. I'd hate for my kid to be in that kind of situation. Ugh.

"Robert Giordano, of the Oklahoma City suburb of Edmond, said he last spoke to his wife, Shannon, on Monday. She told him she waited in line for three hours to get a hot dog, and that conditions on the ship were terrible.

"They're having to urinate in the shower. They've been passed out plastic bags to go to the bathroom," Giordano said. "There was fecal matter all over the floor."

I find it amazing (and maybe I shouldn't) that whenever there is a major storm, tornato, hurricane, flood. ship/transportation accident, any problem!! and the chips are down and people need help (anywhere in the world for that matter) we are there ready to do what needs to be done.:goodvibes

I hope they can get in before dark.........there is about 40 miles from the sea bouy to the dock, guessing on the distance, I have not been in Mobile since hurricane Fred in the late 70'tys.

I also read they have 200 people ready to help the passingers off the ship.

They should be able to get in. Up until last year they used to cruise out of Mobile Bay, then Carnival left the city of Mobile high and dry and in debt for a cruise ship terminal.

We are looking forward to showing the passengers some southern hospitality. Hopefully everyone is in good health after this ordeal. There are going to be medical staff available for the passengers as well.

As of 0800 this morning the Truimph is underway and heading to Mobile. Speed 4 to 9 mile per hour, not knots. No new ETA. still just *thursday*

Seems reports are that she was not closer to Mobile then Progresso when going under tow. ABC report she was 200 NM closer to Progresso then Mobile. I have not found a tracking site with her true position, her tranponder maybe off. If anyone find it please post it.

Please remember the reasons given, for going to mobile, if correct were reasonable, the ocean currents and wind were very much in favor of going to Mobile.

First a question- you mentioned htey are at a speed of 4 to 9 miles per hour - not knots.

Could you explain how they are related? Like a conversion x miles = y knots

Then a thought-
Whatever the reason they are going to Mobile- it may turn out to be a huge blessing for those involved. Landing on a US port makes the logistics so much easier.

Closer to the original port
Busing to the airport
language spoken
Number of airports available for getting people home
Close to a big city for those that wait for flights

Most importantly- passports that might have been needed for flying back to the US.
Not trying to start an argument on what is or is not needed, just commenting that one thing that would have needed to be accomplished just got taken off the list.

Sorry for what they are going through
Glad that Mobile is waiting with open arms to help them

A land mile is 5,280 feet long and mph is based on that figure, so if your going 15 mph you cover 60 land miles.

A nautical mile is 6,022 feet long and knots per is based on that figure, so if you moving at 15 knots you cover 15 nautical miles.

Basicly a nautical mile = 1.14 land miles. Not a big difference.

I totally agree, Mobile is the perfect port for this. I am sure that handy shipyard there has been talking to Carnival.;)

I wonder if they can get in and out of their cabins? Do they need electricty for their Key Cards to work?

Reports vary about permitted room access.
Cabin locks operate on batteries, so cards/locks should function.

I wonder if they are helping all those people who missed their flights in Houston? They keep talking about getting people to Houston.

And couldn't those other cruiseships have taken some of the people?

Sayhello

Thats what I was wondering but then how would they choose who got to leave? I can't imagine the anarchy that would ensue. :scared: I'd say the elderly and medically compromised populations should have been able to board the other ships if there was room. I think about the people on nonelective medications. :sad1:

I'm thinking that transferring passengers ship to ship while at sea is a fairly dangerous project, unless done via helicopter or something.

The Triumph has now cancelled sailings through mid-April. I am scheduled to take a 5 day cruise on her in September from Galveston to Progeso and Cozumel. My first cruise, other than in a friend's cabin cruiser from Newport Beach to Catalina Island.

Wind, waves, possibly current, and lack of forward motion were making her list. No she wouldn't have sunk.

I heard the list was 4.5 degrees at one ponit. Doesn't sound like much, but it's spooky when it does.

I'm not familiar with marine talk, what does "list " mean?

Is that the degree of tilt side to side or front or back?

Maybe I'm mistaken, but this could happen on Disney or any other cruise line just as well.
