Ohana menu changes

We ate there last week and I have to say it was my least favorite meal of the trip. Now, I have nothing to compare it to because we never ate there before the changes but I had really high hopes for it since it gets such great reviews and we've never before been able to snag a ressie for it at a decent time. The salad was just ok. I didn't think it had much flavor and the fruit was sparse. Our potstickers did not have a drizzle. The peanut sauce was good and that was the only option. The vegetables were good. The beef was horrible. I couldn't even cut it with my knife. The rest was ok, but nothing to write home about. My favorite part was the bread.

I hope for my trip in 15 days they go back to the old menu. I just read a dining review that said the beef was tough as well.

Before the menu change, this is what i thought as well. Beef was poor quality, pork was so nasty, chicken was decent, potstickers were very dry, wings were so slimy, noodles were decent. Just not impressed at all. Won't be back.

We just ate at O'hana on Sunday. I admit after reading the menu changes I was a bit "hesitant" only because I loved the salad before etc. However after dining I can honestly say it was one of our favorite meals! The salad had mango and mandrin oranges (no papaya) and it really tasted much like the other salad..this is what I was most worried about because I love their salad. Even my picky son loved the salad. Everything else was delicious...pot stickers, wings (not slimy in the least), lo mein, shrimp/beef/chicken were great...pork was OK and veggies were fine as well. Dessert was yummy and I don't usually eat dessert at all.

Service was very well paced. We did not feel rushed at all. In fact I could have sat there all night and would have felt "welcomed" to do so. Our server was wonderful (darn I can't think of her name at the moment but she was great!).

My older son (14) is the picky eater and he was allowed to eat anything from the food they brought over and she also brought out mac and cheese for both my boys to enjoy!! They loved the mac and cheese! My youngest tried almost everything along with his mac and cheese!

We enjoyed it so much (as usual) we almost went back but really wanted to try different places.

Wanted to add one more thing...my DH is one of the most critical diners I know! LOL He will find something wrong just about anywhere we eat however he LOVED every thing served.

Enjoy!

Kim

Thank you so much for you review! Can't wait to go back now. My DD does not want to dine at Ohana but maybe if they bring out Mac and cheese to go with the meat she will eat.

Ate there last week, and it's the new salad, peanut sauce, etc... It looks like the changes might be permanent.

We ate there February 1st. I really disliked the new salad dressing, it's much sweeter than the honey-lime. I see that as a blessing because I always ate too much of the salad before the rest of the meal comes out! :lmao:

If you ask for more sweet and sour sauce with the potstickers, they'll bring it (it tasted great with the pork).

The new mixed veggies were just okay, kinda blah and flavorless.

I spoke with the manager and they said there were no plans to change anything back to the old menu. It was a revamping of the menu more than just a trial. They've tweaked things (namely the fruits that are in the salad and the types of veggies in the stir fry), but there's no end date on any of the changes. So like the PP said, this appears to be the new normal at 'Ohana.

We still had an amazing meal, I wouldn't hesitate to continue to recommend it to people.

We ate there last week and it was even better than I remember! It was all broccoli, no mixed veggies. The salad was delightful with new new dressing and oranges.

I am going for the first time in 2 weeks. I have a question. Do you have to order the potstickers and wings seperate or are they included in the meal. We are using the dining plan and I want to get them if they aren't extra.

They are included in the meal.

At "Ohana everything on the menu is included with the meal.

:cool1::banana: Thank you!!! I am soooooooooo excited!! I am dying for the bread pudding. The last trip 2009 I couldn't get in so this time (even though it's 930) I am going to be dancing all the way there!

If anyone goes and isn't allowed more potsticker sauce, please update this thread. I'm really not a fan of the peanut sauce.

Can anyone please tell me where I can find the updated menu?
When I look under Dining and Menus here, last updated was mid January.
I am not a big meat eater. Is there also fish?
Thank you very much!

I haven't seen an updated online menu anywhere yet. But there's no fish, just shrimp -- along with the steak, chicken and pork.

Thanks so much! I appreciate it.

I, too, am a sad panda with these changes.... BUT it will not change my mind about going back to 'Ohana. I hate fruit in my salad, but will just pick it out. If they ever change the bread pudding, I will freak out! :rotfl:

Well evidently not THAT many people have cancelled due to the new menu because I STILL can't get a reservation for our week at the end of April earlier than 8:30pm. I've never gotten to try 'Ohana and I WANT TO BADLY!!

I don't know what the salad was before, but I like fruit in my salad and usually put a lot of it in any salad I make, so that's fine. And since I don't know the original dressing, I guess I won't know a difference!

And I'd be excited I think for more than just broccoli, though I love broccoli.

I would probably want a variety of sauces, I usually like to combine sauces at restaurants such as this, or at a hibachi place, so that's kinda disappointing.

All in all, I still want to go - and CAN'T! Argh.
