Dis Exclusive Once Upon a Fairytale Germany Trip 9/20 - 9/28/2013

Very excited to see that the same people who do Coffee Break French are launching Coffee Break German in January. I subscribed to the French one on itunes in anticipation of our London/Paris trip and found it very helpful. They are 15 minute episodes of practical lessons (much more practical than when I took Russian in college and one of the first things they taught us to say was "I play the bassoon").

Thank you for the heads-up on this Laurie! I've started to download the episodes...they will be good to listen to on the bus home from work!

*Disclaimer - I'm not going on this ABD, but . . .

I live in Germany and am a big DIS and DIS Unplugged fan.

Are you guys doing a DIS Meet in Germany? I currently live in Stuttgart, but we are moving to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (south of Munich) in a few months. I'd love to attend a Dis meet in Germany!

And to the poster who asked about Vienna? I lived there for one year and LOVE Vienna. I highly recommend it. Let me know if you need any tips.

Unfortunately for us, Marilyn and Mark have had to cancel their Adventure.

The good news is that it's for a happy reason.

Next time Marilyn and Mark.::yes::

This just got VERY real. After pouring over the airfares we have finally booked our airfare! :cheer2::cheer2: I think we are sitting on the wings of the planes.

We spent the day at my parents house and my mother was overjoyed with the plans and green with envy!

What is life without having an ABD adventure to plan for?!?!!!!!

Apfelstrudel zum Frühstück heute von einer kleinen deutschen Stadt in Texas.

Apple strudel for breakfast today from a little German town in Texas.

This morning I was having a conversation of "what to wear in France and Germany". According to some articles you should "dress like a local."

So should we dress like they do at the parks? :sad2: I told DH he would have to wear a speedo if swimming was involved!:scared1::scared1::scared1:

:rotfl: I recall Kevin mentioning how impossible it is to look like a local when following someone carrying a big ABD sign; however, I'm going to be really disappointed if I don't get to see Mike in lederhosen.:sad2:

I'm sure your "local camouflage" will fool people who see you following a guide in ABD clothes and carrying a big lamenated ABD sign.;)

And we are so quiet when we are all together. No one will notice 35 people huddled together and chatting and laughing.

Dress comfortable and dont worry if people think you are a tourist. You are a tourist!:thumbsup2

Well from their daughter Nicole, who is doing all of their travel planning. So I have to live through them. They are new to the group but seasoned travelers, they will be on a month long retirement vacation, starting with ABD on the Signature Italy tour, then a week in Vienna on their own. They will join you in Germany, and will be looking forward to drinking a beer that Kevin promised my father. Please help them get out of their shell, they sometime are shy little turtles. But this a once in a lifetime opportunity and should live it up and make new friends and memories. And I think your the group to do it.
Thanks Nicole

We look forward to meeting them Nicole! I am sure we will get them out of any shells!! Thanks for all the planning help!

I look forward to meeting your parents Nicole! I'll be asking their advice about what not to miss in Vienna since we are heading there after the trip.
