OFFICIAL Disney Cake Chatter Thread - Part III

When having your cake delivered to a restaurant can you ask to have the cake on a separate bill? I wouldn't think this is a big deal, but I'd really prefer to have the cake listed on a separate bill to not confuse my mind lol. I just want the cake to NOT be included in any automatic gratuity or even the suggested. I always just pay over the suggested tip anyways and got myself into a little tizzy last time because I was so tired and I didn't know what to tip for the meal. Call me cheap but I don't want to tip the cost of the cake since the waiter/waitress had nothing to do with it anyways. All they did was bring it out, and there seems to not be any way to get a tip to the baker anyways.

I feel the same way, but I haven't had the chutzpah to try asking them to split it out yet. Wanna be our guinea pig? :teeth:

No more cake photos? Is there no longer a list?:cake:

This thread is full of cake photos...? If you go to the first post, there is a link to the old Cake Gallery, which had an index that is no longer being maintained by the thread creator. Perhaps that's what you're after?

Anyone know if you can have a cake delivered to BOG?

The answer in the last few weeks has been no.

If you get a cake at MK will they take it to your resort like Pop?

No, but you can!

ETA: Can you add a wc topper for a fancy 6in cake? I don't actually care about having fondant. I just want better flavors and minnie and mickey anniversary statue :)

It depends on which topper you're talking about and whether it will fit on a 6-inch cake. They'd probably sell it to you and just put it on the plate if it came to that...

I am considering ordering a mini cake for DD's birthday dinner at CRT. But we have a late reservation that is past her bedtime, so I am continuing to check to see if I can get a better time, even if it's on a different date. Can you change your delivery time/date? If so, how much notice is needed?

Yes. I'd give them as much notice as possible and not cut it any closer than 48 hours.

Ok, I realize that this post/question may seem almost blasphemy, but is there somewhere OFF site that makes really, really, really good cakes/cupcakes?

The following places all have been recommended by Disney World brides, though I haven't tried any of them: Anna Cakes, Bake Me a Cake, It's Tasty Too, and Sprinkles.

I wanted to order a slipper for my friends CRT dinner and there is no way for me to pre-pay to do it without it showing up on their bill. According to the CRTSpecial Events email. has anyone else had any luck?

Not that I've seen here...

Also wondering if you can order custom cupcakes. Anyone know?

I'd call the number (Post #2) for the place where you're dining and ask. They're the only ones who can give you a definitive answer.

Is it possible to have a custom cake delivered to Tusker House in Animal Kingdom?

Yes, see post #2. However, DHS' bakery (which makes cakes for Tusker House) doesn't offer anything really fancy.

ok, so am I correct that I need to call BWI to order a specialty cake for Flying Fish?

Yep!

I'm thinking about ordering a cake for our April trip when it gets closer and considering requesting the Bailey's mousse. I haven't seen too many cakes with that flavor...has anyone had it and would you recommend it? Thanks!

Many of the brides on the Weddings & Honeymoons board seem to like it. :goodvibes

First post ever! Will be at WDW in June with family for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. I booked ADR at Aloha Luau as a surprise for them. I want to order a cake, see I will be ordering from GF. We have 10 in our party so I'm thinking the 10 inch cake, right? I need ideas for design, am not creative. No fondant, probably yellow cake with choc buttercream filling. Suggestions for decor welcome.

Disney doesn't offer yellow cake, just white cake. Since you aren't interested in fondant, I'd suggest ordering from the Polynesian. It can be an easier process. :)

I apologize if this has been asked and answered already. Can we take a cake into any restaurant that we're eating at? I don't have all our dining plans figured out yet but I was thinking of ordering a cake, picking it up and taking it to dinner with us. Also, can we bring in a cake from somewhere else, like a grocery store in Orlando? My daughter loves cookie cakes and I was thinking of getting one somewhere else and bringing it to dinner.

Does anyone know if you can use a Disney Gift Card to pay for a meal at CRT? I am thinking about buying a GC for my friends to cover the cost of the slipper dessert, I'd love to order them a mini cake, but the Slipper is half the price!

I feel the same way, but I haven't had the chutzpah to try asking them to split it out yet. Wanna be our guinea pig? :teeth:

Well you can bet I'll try to remember, failing that, I'm going to also TRY to remember to make note of price and suggested Tip for another meal and record it in my phone so I have a better idea for the meal we get the cake. I can't remember what it was in the end, but I do remember having a near heart attack the last time I got the bill with the cake on it. (minor heart attack at Park fare for the first cake -cheaper) major heart attack for the second at Chef Mickey, but our bill also included 3 adults and a child and I was paying OOP for 2 adults. I knew the cost of the cake prior, but when it's put all together on our last Day on the same bill.... Heart attack!

Oh, I looked at the first page of this thread & yellow cake is listed. So when they list 'vanilla' cake is that white cake?
Does the Poly do a fancy buttercream cake? Maybe the white choc minnie/mickey topper or a flat version on white chocolate? I want something nice but no one in the family will eat fondant and with 3 four year olds in our party, if it looks funny, they won't touch it.

Hello everyone,
I am newly registered to the boards, but I have been following this thread (and the previous parts 1&2) for a while now.

We are having dinner next Friday night at The Crystal Palace and I want to order a special cake for my daughter's birthday (fondant, Mad Hatter, etc). I have called the contemporary cake line and got my order started; however, I have not had ANY responses back from Brian regarding my cake order request! I have sent him emails from two email accounts (in case there was something wonky with one of them) and I have called the Contemporary a couple of times as well (my first phone calls and emails were at the end of January, and I just called again yesterday and emailed earlier this week and yesterday).

Is it typical that you hear nothing back for this long of time? I hate to be a pest by sending repeated emails, but I really want to get my cake ordered. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I am thinking about ordering a cake to surprise my mom during our June trip. We will be at BWV June 1-8, her birthday is June 13 so I thougt it would be nice to get her a cake while we are there. Since we are staying at the Boardwalk, I will just order one from the bakery. There will only be 3 of us, so I'm thinking a 6in cake and I know a 6in cake can't be customized, but can they put Happy Birthday on it. Does that cost extra? I just want a simple cake probably white cake and white butter cream that says Happy Birthday.
Will they deliver the cake to our room? Do we have to in the room to have it delivered? Do I tip the person delivering it? Or should I just go to the bakery and pick it up? Sorry for all the question, I've never ordered a cake or had anything delivered to our room so not sure of the proper procedure. Thanks for any help!

Here now and got my son a cake yesterday for his 7th bday. It was delivered to Liberty tree tavern for lunch from Contemp. The cost was $107 and I must say I was VERY disappointed. I emailed with chef Brian, asked for all the lion king characters. Was told "no problem". I called back 2 weeks ago and talked to another CM and told It would be fondant with 3D characters and confirmed again all the major characters, explained I did NOT want the printed on chocolate characters. Called Wednesday to make sure everything was good and they would charge the card and not put it on the food bill. Again I explained I did not want the printed on chocolate characters and I wanted it all edible. Was told that for $107 it would be special and no printed on choc. characters. Got a 3 layer cake, covered in green fondant with 3 printed on choc. characters on top and some leaves on wire around them. I was worried when I talked to the guy Wednesday because he could not find a price on my paper work, they seemed very very unorganized. I will post pics when I get home. The cake tasted great but was a big let down to me.

Welcome to the DIS!:goodvibes

You might be able to go with a smaller cake. We had a 10" cake for my father's birthday and it was HUGE! Dad and stepmom each had a piece, my sister and I had two each, and there was still a ton left over. We were giving pieces away and still had almost half to take with us.

If your family really, really loves cake then go for it. If not, consider something a bit smaller. A 10" with three layers is a lot of cake!

Wow...for $107 (even in Disney prices) I would definitely expect something more than printed characters. Definitely follow through and maybe even forward the email where you specifically asked for 3D characters. I'd probably be wanting quite a refund.

Now...that said, the big question is did your son love the cake and enjoy his birthday! I hope so!

Oh I feel your pain!!! I told the people at AKL the same thing about the printed characters (I had seen 3D animals on WDW cakes before) and was told that I would be getting 3D lions (Simba & Nala) and what did I get? Yep, a printed cut-out on top. At least you got some actual leaves. ;)

While Lurkyloo can probably confirm this, I think the issue is that they're not permitted to sculpt any of the Disney characters. i.e. they can sculpt a 3D animal, but they are not permitted to actually sculpt Simba & Nala, etc. It was my understanding that if you want full 3D- you are strictly limited to the character options in the white chocolate toppers. Now they should have communicated all of that during any cake discussions which is unfortunate, but I'm pretty sure that's the issue.

I'd call the Contemporary again and try and find out what's going on. Back in November, I had submitted an email to Chef Brian- didn't hear back- emailed again- didn't hear back...so, I called. Turns out he'd been on vacay. All worked out OK though- they got with him right away and within 30 min or so of that call, the ball was rolling and I had an email reply from Chef Brian. Soooooo- in light of this, I'd call and explain to them that you've been emailing and have yet to receive a reply and are concerned since you're getting close to travel time and reallly want this all squared away. Obviously, you don't want to push too hard, but you also want to see if they can get with the chef to help jump start this stalled out process. Hope all works out well! :goodvibes

I apologize if this has been asked and answered already. Can we take a cake into any restaurant that we're eating at? Yes and yes. They just can't store it for you before or after the meal.

Does anyone know if you can use a Disney Gift Card to pay for a meal at CRT? I am thinking about buying a GC for my friends to cover the cost of the slipper dessert, I'd love to order them a mini cake, but the Slipper is half the price!

Yes, you can use a gift card. If they won't let you do it when you book, you can have them reverse the charge to your credit card and apply it to the gift card when you get there.

Oh, I looked at the first page of this thread & yellow cake is listed. So when they list 'vanilla' cake is that white cake?

Exactly. I'll go fix that in the first post, too—thanks for the heads up!

Does the Poly do a fancy buttercream cake? Maybe the white choc minnie/mickey topper or a flat version on white chocolate?

Mmm... in that case, I'd call the Grand Floridian to place your order. The Poly takes orders for only very basic cakes.

Could be that he's super-busy getting ready for Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings' Bridal Showcase tomorrow (last time they had a ton of fancy cakes on display). You might try back next week!

They can write on the plate only, no extra charge.

Will they deliver the cake to our room?

Yes

Do we have to in the room to have it delivered?

No

Do I tip the person delivering it?

No, they add the typical Private Dining gratuity automatically.

Or should I just go to the bakery and pick it up?

You could if you want to avoid the gratuity.

You can usually get more flavor choices than that from the Contemporary, which is where you'd call to have a cake delivered to Ft. Wilderness

Just so I am 100% sure on this. I could, for example, buy a Publix cake and take it to Chef Mickeys? Would they bring it to the table with candles? I will probably have one made at the Contemporary but it would be nice to know if that is an option. Thanks.:goodvibes

Lurkyloo and TiggerTrigger, thanks for answering questions from my post! I will keep you in the loop on how it all works out. I can't wait to go next week and hopefully will have cake photos to post.

I think you should talk to the cake line. The pic I showed you was for a 6-inch cake. It was a specialized gluten-free cake which Chef Brian did in Vanilla with a Raspberry cream filling.

I'm thinking about doing a Welcome to Disney cake delivered to POR the night we arrive. Can't think of a theme, (lol I would LOVE a Wishes cake and Love the one I saw in the gallery but I am hoping to take my family on a Disney Trip in 2014 so I am Saving that idea until then) Anyways I need an idea, 6 inch cake for myself and a 6 year old girl, and I just want it to be more of a Welcome to Disney, rather than charater specific. I'm not really a fan of the white chocolate flat stand up images so I'd be looking for something else.

I've looked at all the pictures in the thread and just nothing is standing out to me. I've thought about minnie, or tink, or a princess cake, but just trying to find something that kind of encompasses all of disney. (I make things way too hard!)
But if anyone has any suggestions PLEASE SHARE!

Need the cake for dinner at the Poly, though we're staying at Ft Wilderness.

So if I want a 10 inch buttercream frosted marble cake/choc buttercream filling with 2D Mickey/Minnie topper, maybe gold accents delivered to the Aloha Luau I should go thru the GF? Or can the Poly do that?
