A $500 Walk to MK?

Hi OP. I have a double BOB stroller and have stayed at the WL with it and BLT (and the CR before kids). If you can swing the extra $$$, I would pick the CR. Our WL trip was almost your exact dates in May. We really loved the resort but the CR transportation options are so much easier with kids and with the Bob, you will need it. The boat to the MK during our stay alternated the small boat with the larger boat. You cannot roll the stroller on the small boat and because of its bulky fold, it's a little difficult to get on the smaller boat. There is one larger boat tht they had in use a couple of times that has a different entry in and you cannot get the stroller on if anybody at has entered with a ecv, a wheelchair, or another double. Also, WL has only has bus options for the other 3 parks and once again, BOB is difficult. I cannot say enough about the ease of the walk to the MK and the monorail to Epcot. Have fun planning.

That walkway is worth it's weight in gold for my family. To not be trapped in MK hours after closing because we're relying on unreliable Disney transportation? Yep, we love CR and BLT.

The other resorts are good too, but the walkway makes it worth it for us.

Thank you all! :worship: I'm keeping the ressie at CR. Maybe we'll try WL when the kiddos are a little older and we are without the double stroller.

unless your double stroller is small - you or your husband may have trouble with it getting on the buses. would take 2 small fold up strollers instead.

you will need to rides buses to get to Studios, AK and DD - if you are going to these places.

also love CR/BLT for those nights when you stay late and the MK is closing then another park is closing - the lines can get long....

Did not Like the wing. Small elevator, too claustrophobic for my liking. You can have a long walk depending where your room is. Only booked it because the tower was not available. I never stayed as I hated it that much. Still no availability at the tower so I moved to gf. If I ever go back to the contemporary it is tower or nothing

Just a heads up on the monorail. We stayed at BLT in October and every time we got the monorail at CR, the CMs there asked everyone to remove their kids from and fold the strollers up. So there isn't any guarantee that you won't have to fold the stroller. You might even want to try going without the stroller since your kids are school aged.

I would love to know why you experienced this and I go all the time and never once have seen or heard this. Even during Thanksgiving when it was packed no one was asked to do this. More likely than not you will not be asked to do this with children and strollers. I was also there mlk weekend another crowded time and not once.

We were there in mid-October and usually boarded the monorail later in the morning, during the afternoon or in the early evening. We were there for nine nights.

The CMs announced before the monorail arrived from the MK, that the monorail was crowded and that all guests would need to remove their kids and fold the strollers.

Weird like I said it was packed thanksgiving and not once did anyone have to do this. We stayed at gf and took the mono a lot that week. At different times. No one said boo. Mlk was a hot mess also stayed at poly and took the mono no one was asked to do that. So I went at peak times and did not experience what you say you did

Good choice! May is good CR weather. Save the WL for a winter trip after Thanksgiving, when the resort is in its holiday decor!

WL looks (and feels) better in the cooler times of the year.

Maybe because the monorail was coming from the MK where it would be full and emptying many guests at the TTC. Once it gets to Polynesian or GF, it might have fewer guests on it. But I know what I saw and heard.

Thanks for the heads up. The BOB folds up fairly easy if need be. Since we'll be spending most of our time at MK, I think the walkway will be our main way of getting into that park. I can't imagine my 6 or 4 year old being able to walk an entire day through the parks. Seems like too much walking for that age.

ok we are doing a split stay of both of these in 83 days with CR at the end of trip. We are getting a Theme park tower room. we are so excited about this. we almost always stay at WL with inner courtyard view. mornings and sunsets are wonderful there. peaceful and quiet.

Be advised there are some construction at CR currently. mainly the Cali Grill..

WL just got done with remodel this last yr.

We've also stayed at both with young kids. While we love the theme at WL and it's very cozy there, we highly prefer the CR mainly due to convenience. As posted, the walkway to MK is a lifesaver with little ones. You can even let them fall asleep at MK in the stroller, then just walk back to CR whenever you want. No worries about unloading or folding up the stroller. And there are various points at CR where you can watch Wishes. Another huge plus with little ones that you can see the show right from your resort rather than fight with crowds at the MK. Also, Chef Mickeys is right at CR and I know we frequented that restaurant when our kids were those ages.

Good decision Bogey (though you couldn't go wrong with either choice):earsboy:

A four or six year old shouldn't have a major problem walking in the parks. My GDs walked each of the parks from opening to closing with no problems. Their ages were five and seven. My children walked all over The parks with no strollers, last time I used a stroller was when last child was three.

Thank you for responding! After I posted, I started thinking that my desire to bring the stroller is more for me, and the times when they get tired/cranky or are getting distracted. ;) I guess now I am wondering if they are too old for a stroller. But that's another thread entirely! :lmao:

if you go from the tmie the MK opens until it closes - no breaks except to eat - few kids would be able to do this.

my brother did a few times with his kids - and have a friend who still does it.

CR and WL are both MK resorts but here are some differences...

CR is on the monorail, while WL is not. other then that its just different food options and different pools - the slides are not much different (CR is a little bigger). I would go with whats comfortable in your budget and what theme you like...

Have a wonderful trip to the world!!!! ;)

The last time we stayed at the WL was in 2009, and our kids were 9 and 7, they both loved it and we all love the theming. While we did miss the monorail at times, the boat ride to MK was the next best thing and you can take the boat to the CR and pick up the monorail to ride to Epcot and such. I would say go with your gut in terms of which theming you enjoy the most and if the monorail to MK is worth the money, or say what you could do with $500 extra for something else on your trip! We have never stayed at the CR although it looks great, but we do love the WL...just walkng around, the pool, the little beach area, it really is great! So just go with what you feel best and you'll have an amazing trip no matter what! Good luck with your decision :coffee:
