I booked a 1 night stay at AKL and paid with my debit card $475. We're also staying 5 nights at BLT on points. We decided to add another day so I'm booking 2 night AKV on points and canceled my cash AKL ressie. The CM said it can take 3 billing cycles to get the refund?? 3 months? Surely not.... Anyone have any experience with how long it actually takes the refund to hit the bank?

I too am waiting on a refund. I cancelled it on Jan 25 and am still waiting on my refund. I called this morning and the CM I spoke to said it was processed and I needed to call my bank... My bank could tell me when I would receive and that it could take up to 3 billing cycles. Called the bank and they told me there was nothing pending. Called Disney back and this CM told me the same thing; it was processed on Jan 25, but she gave me the number to customer service. I called Disney Customer Service and the CM told me it was processed but she would run it through again since I hadn't received yet and that it could take 3-5 days before my bank could see it.... We'll see.......

Whenever I have cancelled (and I am a notorious resort/package/date changer:rolleyes1), the money has been back on my credit card within a week. So for my credit card company at least, it is 5 business days or so.
I have read that it can take longer with debit cards.

Wow, I can't imaging why it would take so long?? Thanks for your reply and good luck!

Thanks, you would think it would be less time with debit cards?

My coworker told me to always use credit cards because you get your money back faster. That's what I get for trying to pay for it up front instead of charging it! Lol

When I get in these situations I always feel like each side is playing me... We can't see it call them... No you need to call them... Sigh

Thanks and good luck to you too!

For me I got my refund in an odd way, first half to my chase, second half to my other card 2 weeks later and then last deposit to the chase card 4 days later...odd but I got it all back.

very odd indeed. I just paid for one night in one room so hopefully I'll get it back at one time. haha

I agree that it depends on the bank as Disney processes refunds right away. I've always received refunds within 3-4 days whether I've used a cc or debit card.

I cancelled two packages that were paid in full to book a room only. I cancelled one on Wed morning and had the 1200 back in my account on Sunday night. I cancelled the other on Tuesday morning, and the 2400 is back in my account tonight Friday. Disney may have a horrible reservations system and clueless cm's, but there accounting department is top notch. I have cancelled many reservations it never takes more than 3 or 4 days.

They refund it as you've paid it. So, you must have paid it that way. I make monthly payments over several months and have gotten up to 9 separate refunds amounting to each payment.

I have received a refund from them within a week too. I work at a bank and do know that the banks aren't able to see if a company has pushed through a refund until it's ready to post to your account. So, don't let them tell you to check with your bank.

Last Friday I booked a package and the travel agent booked it twice by mistake. I foolishly used my debit. She notified me of the mistake Sunday, and both deposits didn't process until Tuesday at my bank. I got the extra deposit credited today. Luckily my overdraft protection prevented me from incurring fees.

I also worked at a bank and its quite simple- the bank doesn't hold the credit- when the bank receives it they credit you. I've noticed lately that companies like to blame the bank- I commented to a walmart employee about the item I was returning and how the credit takes a week and she was quick to blame the bank but its not true.

I cancelled a CRT dining reservation online in October - it was originally charged to DH credit card (first mistake). We still didn't have the refund at the beginning of December. My DH called credit card company ... which I think triggered something. That same day I called Disney and they said the cancellation just went through that day??? When I told the CM that I had cancelled months ago, she said that the online system often experiences a delay. I told her this did not make sense as I received the confirmation email immediately and Disney doesn't delay charging for the original reservation. She then proceeded to tell me that it could still take up to 3 months for the refund to get posted to the Credit Card. We didn't see the refund until January. Needless to say my DH was not happy!!

I just changed a reservation from a split stay with room only to a package and they told me it would take up to a week for the refund to show up on my credit card. I just checked and it's been there for 4 days already so it only took a couple days.

Credits take 3-5 business days and this is standard for all companies.

Why does it not show up instantly like a charge? Well, a charge takes 3-5 business days to process from your account as well. But the bank puts a hold on the money so that you don't overspend and you see the "pending charge" instantly.

So banks don't do cash advances for credits and it will take the full 3-5 business days until you see it.

The CM said it can take 3 billing cycles to get the refund?? 3 months?
No, it doesn't mean three months. This is if you're looking at paper statements coming in the mail it could come on this month's charge statement or the next depending on when it happened in the month.

But now most people check their account daily online. So spieling 3 billing cycles can be very confusing to most people.

I foolishly used my debit.

Yeah, I never use my debit card at resorts. At many hotels, the charge amount is manually keyed-in by the front desk agent. Missing a decimal point can change your $200 charge to a $2000 one. Along with other errors that may occur, it's best just to use a credit card to avoid all your money being tied up.

I mean, if we were really going to blame someone, wouldn't it be the banking institution who has the archaic system in place that takes a week to move money back to your account?

The transfer itself can take 3-5 days (sometimes longer) which includes the processing time on the merchant's end and processing time on the bank's end. Its not due to an "archaic system" - someone has to batch process the ACH debits and credits at a certain time daily. If yours was received after the cut off that day, it will go in at the end of the day the next day. It's really simple.

I cancelled a room only last year, and I think refund was back in checking 8-10 days. I also used a debit card. I know they told me 3 billing cycles and it didn't take that long.
