DVC Points

Has anyone had any negative experiences renting DVC points? We would really like ot be in a villa next November and renting points is so much more affordable but I have never done it before. Your thoughts on renting?

Our first experience with dvc was through renting. Our primary reason was that our first 2 visits to the world was in Ft wilderness cabins and after having all that space it was really hard for us to go back to staying in a tiny hotel room (we tried values after that, talk about a disaster)

We rented from a disser and it was a great experience. I totally admit to being nervous but my owner went out of her way to answer my billions of questions and kept me in the loop. We gave her 1/3 down, then another 1/3 4 months prior and the final payment we fedexed to her a week before the trip.
She copied us on all reciepts and stuff from disney.

We ended up purchasing soon after.

You were very lucky to be able to pay the last third of your payment only two weeks out. Most members want either full payment once the reservation is made or partial to make the reservation and the rest shortly thereafter.

We rented points twice last yr from 2 different people. First stay was in February and stayed at AKL & rented those points for $9 a Point, second trip was in November and stayed at boardwalk & rented those points for $10 a point. Both times had nice easy transactions & any future trips ( usually go once a yr) will be renting points!!

I just rented points for the 1dt time yesterday.

I'm a longtime veteran to these boards & go to WDW 3-4 times a year, but I just wasn't comfortable doing it until now. It felt too risky, and I'm a control freak that likes to do everything myself. And now, I think I might be hooked!

I found my renter on ****************. I did a very thorough search of her (FL deeds - you can check their DVC deed, Facebook, DIS, ***********, etc.) She wanted $10/pt and was SUPER nice. Since I'm booking for this March, all of my dates were no longer available, but she ran a few scenarios for me to get me (and her) the best deal. I don't know that other renters would be willing to do so much legwork.

After a whole afternoon of back & forth (she was a saint!) we ended up booking 2 nts AKL 1BR Jambo & she waitlisted 2 more. I currently have a cash ressie for all 4 nts (plus 2 more at WL) so if the other 2 nts don't come through, I still have them. Just at a MUCH higher rate. I saved $180 per night on this villas by renting points. You can save MUCH more if you're paying rack rate (I had booked with AP discount).

She emailed me a contract, I paid in full up front via Paypal (plus a refundable deposit on the waitlist nights), and she emailed me the confirmation from Disney with the ressie in my name. I am able to enter the DVC ressie number into My Disney Experience, so I'm very confident this will go smoothly. If not, lesson learned!

So I took the plunge....so can you!

oops didn't realize I wasn't allowed to say the other place! Sorry DIS-ers!

We're looking to rent for that same week. I've been in contact with both David's site and the DVC rental store - and no one has points. I'm still on their list to try and fill my request, but it's not looking good!

Everyone makes it sound like renting with a service is a sure thing ... I wasn't really aware that it's very possible that rooms will be available, but points will not. And the rooms will be sold out before points become available.

eta: Not sure how I ended up with a winky face on my post! Didn't mean to do that :)

I'm running into the same problem. I want an OKW or BWV studio for ten days next January - the 11 month window opened yesterday. I checked through DVC Rental Store. No points are available. Today I applied through David's rental store; I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But at this point, I'm worried!

Just rented today from Davids for 11/7-11/11 at AKL Jambo house !! :cool1::dance3::cool1: This was our final and last resort choice . We wanted BCV or BWV but could not even get waitlisted there ... Next was VWL but we did not want to take the chance of a waitlist so we jumped on AKL Jambo house ! I have stayed at Jambo house and loved it my sisters who I am traveling with only one has ever stayed deluxe ( with me at BC/YC ) I am super excited we did get the savanna view !

Davids has been super great so far with contacting me and making me feel better as this is the first time I have used their service ! So far I am happy with our choice !! We have saved about 1,000 by renting points ! :thumbsup2

David's came through for me. I send in the application yesterday and by 11AM today, he secured a ten day OKW studio for me. He sent me a link to pay and it was all done in less than five minutes. Now I'm just waiting on the contract to be emailed. So far, it's been very easy.:thumbsup2

We were considering it for our upcoming trip - I am guessing at this point there would be very little, if anything, available for the end of May?

i rented points this past summer and would never do it again. my dining plan that i paid for wasnt attached to my reservation. i wasted a whole day on the the phone with the owner and at the desk trying to get it worked out. i ended up paying for the dining plan twice! the owner never gave me the money back. $1500 im still sick over it. shes a long time poster, its disgusting

If this is true, and I have no reason to doubt you, why haven't you called her out on the boards?

Board rules would not permit this.

Do you mind sharing the method you used to pay for the dining plan? Disney gift cards? Credit Cards? Cash? If you used your credit card there may be some way to reverse the charges.

Great feedback! We plan to rent points for our Oct trip. My DH is a BIG skeptic!!!!! Must be from his line of work :rotfl: anyway finally convinced him to use Davids. Then some directed me to the rent board here and now I am leaning that way! Someone is checking on it right now but DH is still nervous. :worried:

Hello all, I just this evening started looking into renting DVC points, and I almost feel like this is too good to be true, price wise!!!

I feel like I would rather deal with a broker than an individual (just for my own control freak purposes!). But I am just a little bit blown away by the price difference in renting points vs paying disney directly

I really hope I can talk BF's mom into this..Last time we went I was a disney noob and let her do all the planning, and we (myself, bf, his mom, and his niece (8) and nephew (2)) stayed in a standard room at all star music. It was a great trip, and I LOVE his mom and niece and nephew, but I need more space!!! She did it as a cost saving measure and I let her take the reigns, and was unaware of what she had booked until we set foot in the room. We are not looking at going back until 2014, but she has said that she will GLADLY let me do all the choosing this time. if this is an option, we are TOTALLY going for it. Hopefully I can talk her into a little bit of a price increase for more space.

i am definitely going to be researching this more because I can already see a few pros vs cons, but I hope I can make it work for us. I would love to stay at a deluxe!!

a slightly OT post for this thread, but I just couldn't believe my eyes as I started doing some of the math!!

i can vouch for renting..most of the posters are good people and will rent to you.just do your homework ask for references..get name and ph number ..I have never had a problem..good luck..its the only way I stay at DVC. resort .otherwise to expensive.

A big thing for me that I don't hear a lot of people saying (in general- not just here) is that once you secure the points rental, your reservation can be seen online on the Disney website under your name. So it's not a total nerve wracking crap shoot "is it gonna be there when I arrive" feeling KWIM?

We rented points for this upcoming trip from Davids, and it was a seamless and smooth process once they had points available for us to rent. And DH checks almost every day that it's still linked to our names because he's just like that. :thumbsup2

I mean, if the DVC member backs out (at least according to the contract) they don't get paid. (The 3rd party holds the cash heading to the owner until the renter checks in). So really, there isn't anything for the owner to gain if they cancelled it. Just reading all the fine print when we rented was enough to cure this skeptic of any hesitation in the point rental process. It's going to be tough to justify NOT renting points anymore though!

We were considering it for our upcoming trip - I am guessing at this point there would be very little, if anything, available for the end of May?

Not really - because of the food/wine at the beginning of Nov - thanksgiving and christmas stuff at the end of Nov - Nov and Dec are pretty popular with DVC members (also low points)

May just has the flower/garden - while I love it - it does not have the popularity of the f/w

now when the star wars weekend - it was different - but then they changed them to June. Not sure when it is this year.
