What is size of cruise card for the ship?
We are curious about lanyard.
Can we have the card punched like on Princess?
How else can we carry the card without using a lanyard?
Ideas?

I believe that you can punch the card, but I bought a lanyard zip pouch and worked fine. Also, some people use those dry boxes. Hope that helps :goodvibes

The same size as all the other cruise lines...credit card size. I do not mess with the lanyard and just stick it in my pocket.

The KTTW cards for the Dream and the Fantasy have a chip embedded in them to electronically unlock your stateroom door, so punching holes in them could mess that up. Lanyards and pockets work better.

As a new cruiser you realize that you won't be given a lanyard, you'll need to purchase one either before your cruise or onboard if you wish to use a lanyard. I used a small cross-over pouch to carry ID and KTTW and a little cash when we left the ship; I think DH just put his KTTW in his pocket. We did have lanyards but I don't think we used them with the KTTW cards.

Enjoy your cruise!

Guest service will punch your KTTW for you - my daughter has had this done on both the Dream and Fantasy.

How does this work? Do you just wave the card in front of a reader on the door?
And how about entry to the "gated area" of the concierge rooms, does it work the same? (I won't be enjoying the concierge service, but my parents will)

I'm not trying to sell anything here I'm just a happy customer. These are perfect. There are several sources so shop around. You can find different colors, etc.

If you buy the 2 sided version you can put your KTTW card on one side and your driver’s license on the other. The card slides in and “locks” in until you want it out. It will not fall out but it is simple to remove.

:thumbsup2

It's a little more than a quick wave...you hold it up to the card reader. Similar to the hotel rooms that swipe a card, but you aren't swiping just hold it there a second. The reader is in the door frame near the door knob but not on the door.

Thanks! Interesting. I think its funny that they would incorporate that. Like swiping takes so much effort! Do they use the technology for anything else?

Does everyone who has been on a DCL cruise before, get a lanyard upon checkin?

We will only have one person in our party who has never been before.

We are also DVC members.

All returning cruisers will receive the appropriate CC level colored lanyard. I believe DVC members also get lanyards.

Actually, the reader is on the door. I found a pic here:

Any suggestions for what people do for their kids' cruise cards?

Do kids (mine are 7,4,1) need to even carry them around? If so, I think I had better get the older 2 a lanyard.

I always use a lanyard at WDW for my KTTW card so that will work great for the cruise.

I have a "funny now, but not funny at the time" story about lanyards.

On my last Disney cruise, I was up on the top deck taking photos as we were leaving Nassau. It was sunset, and we had a great view of the island and the beautiful Atlantis resort! It was quite windy and I had my lanyard around my neck. The plastic card holder did not have a zipper or any other enclosure. The card just slid down in there. Well as my luck would have it, the wind picked up my lanyard and the plastic part flew up and flipped upside down. We had just gotten back on the ship so I had my license in there as well as my KTTW card. The licenses in my state aren't regular plastic cards, but instead a light flexible material. So, while my KTTW simply fell onto the deck beneath my feet, my license flew like a feather off the side of the deck and blew down and down and down... I thought it might land on a deck below me so at least I could retrieve it, but no. It watched it float all the way down and land in the crystal Bahamian water. I could not believe that it happened! Luckily, I had my passport which could be used as ID so I could get off the ship at my next port. My family liked to joke that some tropical fish now had my license and was now licensed to drive in NY. :lmao:

So, for future cruises I've learned:
A. Don't carry your license or any other identification around with you for prolonged periods of time. After you get back on the ship, go back to your room and lock it up safely.
B. Get a lanyard with a plastic holder that has an enclosure, especially for the kiddos.
C. Put your KDDW in your pocket if you've got 'em!

Hmmm...maybe I have faulty memory. I'll have to dig through pictures tonight to see.

The kids really don't need to carry their cards. You will need it to get on/off the ship, not even sure that it's needed at the kids club since they have Mickey Bands, though you'll need yours for pick-up.

Enjoy your cruise!
