Nemesis Challenge: No Pain, No Gain. A ½ Marathon 2013 NEW Updates 2/20 NEW

I probably made it to the bag check area about 4:15. Walked through and then stopped in a wall of people. Could not see why we weren't moving but I figured no where to go until someone moves.
Finally it opened up and I could make my way down the service road.
It was cool to see some of the things back there - old trams and maybe even an old boat of some sort.

No pictures and yes the walk was just about back to OKW. :rotfl2:

Strangest thing I saw was as I was walking towards the start, there was a guy, bag check bag in hand running TOWARDS me. My guess is he was trying to start and walked over. :rotfl:

Boy he was in for a surprise.

Sunrise for me was around the Comtemporary and I saw a lone runner after the ramp onto World Drive. He was on his way back to EPCOT already.

Sounds like your race was like mine. I was good until I was approaching MK. THen my knee, the right one, the bad one, started hurting. Hurting like I haven't felt in years. Step , hop , hurting.

That somehow resolved itself in MK. But then the nausea started about mile 7. Not sure if it was overhydration or under but man, that lasted until I saw EPCOT.

Saw a couple of crashes, one as we went under the water by the CR. A woman apparently misjudged the curb and first aid was tending to her and blocking off part of the path. She was all bloody.
Next was a couple of road rashes on the back side of the GF.

Those last hills were just killing me mentally. I was like up.... again.... you are kidding me.

As I entered MK and EPCOT I had to remind myself, I have walked and even jogged a bit up these many times and talk myself into it.

Potty breaks, Had to go as the first fireworks were going off. Figured it wa nerves as that would happen to me at a swim meet too. :rolleyes1
I saw the potties and then did not have to go, as soon as long stretch with no potties.... you guessed it, I had to go. Never did go and I wondered if that is why I was nauseous too. :lmao:

I couldn't see anything on the walk except a wall of people. It was insane!

No pictures and yes the walk was just about back to OKW. :rotfl2:
Wasn't that ridiculous? Could of just snuck out the back of the resort. I might do that next year if I can get the approval from Melody. I'm still working on that.

He probably snuck over. Yea, he was in for a shock. No way he made it back to the corral in time. :sad2:

WOW... maybe you saw the winner.

Geez, sounds like you had a worse run than I did. Glad you were able to fight through it and get that BLING! :thumbsup2

I don't think I saw anything serious, but I got to a point where I was just oblivious to what was going on around me. :lmao:

Those last hills were just killing me mentally. I was like up.... again.... you are kidding me.
They were killers at the end and actually I wasnt expecting that many. :scared1:

I will say that it is easier for us guys to make an unscheduled stop than you ladies. popcorn:: :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes:

Joining in here too!

Congrats to you and Melody on expecting a new Princess!

And congrats on finishing the race!

Before I continue....

If you want to take a few minutes and check out THIS video taken during the 1/2. You can run the whole route in 13 minutes without even leaving your house. It takes you through arriving at Epcot, the staging area, the corrals, the start, the route, and the finish.... and I'm even in the video!!!!!! At 3:45, you can see me in the bottom left hand corner turning around towards the fireworks behind us then turning back around towards the camera. Exciting stuff, I know!

Also if you haven't been following along with Barry, which if you aren't you are smarter than I, he has started his version of the 1/2 marathon nemesis challenge HERE!

I had just run under the here:

and was handed one of these:

I grabbed a few waters from the table as well as a few power-aides. Around the next corner was a little runDisney boxed breakfast- if you want to call it that- as well as bananas.

IMAG0826.jpg

I saw a lot of people walking around with ice wrapped on their legs but I couldn't figure out where to get that. I did find a help yourself ice station and grabbed a bag. I called Melody and she was working her way over to the finish line. There was a tent with 1/2 marathon merchandise and I stopped in and grabbed a few souvenirs.

A short sleeve t-shirt and a long sleeve t-shirt. (Sorry I don't have pictures of them although the short sleeved shirt will show up in this report.)

$77 later I left the staging area and met up with Melody on the side of the bleachers. We walked toward the Epcot entrance and asked a CM if the DHS busses were running. Unfortunately, they weren't running yet. He said the way to get to DHS was to take the monorail to the TTC and catch a bus from there. I didn't question him, but thinking back, I wonder if the back entrance to Epcot was open at 8:45am.

In order to get on the monorail, you have to go through Epcot security. Why there were only 2 people checking bags, I will never understand. There was also a Brazilian tour group in line. They were very well behaved and talking amongst themselves in no particular line which helped some of the other guests find some openings to get towards the bag check quicker. My left leg was very sore, and I hobbled up the ramp to the monorail. As we got to the top, the monorail showed up. There were so many people wearing medals getting on. It was cool watching us drive up World Drive seeing where I just ran.

We arrived at the TTC and walked over to the bus stop to get on a bus to DHS. There wasn't one person waiting which made me think we just missed a bus. We waited about 10 minutes for a bus to arrive. The roads were still closed from the 1/2 so we had to take an unusual route to DHS. We got into the park and I went to the bathroom to change, while Melody ran over to TSM to grab FPs.

We met up at Starring Rolls since Melody wanted a coffee. I should of had her buy me one of those awesome cupcakes but I already ate 3 bananas and drank 4 waters and a power-aid. We sat down for a few minutes, and figured out a game plan. We had a TSM FP for a few hours from now and we had never seen Indiana Jones, which was starting in about 45 minutes. It seemed that this was a good time to see that. What could we fit in before Indiana Jones? How about ToT and RnCC!

On the way....

While Melody did a little shopping, I had some fun. My favorite ride is RnCC and I wanted to ride that first. I passed up the 10 minute wait for ToT. I went to the single rider line but the CM handed me a FP and sent me through the FP line. I walked into the studio and got right in to see the show. The line was short and I asked to ride in the front car. Before I knew it I was cruising the highways of LA.

DSC06698.jpg

I got through the line and rode in about 10 minutes. On to TOT!!!

Continued next post.....

As I was walking over to ToT, I saw the wait time which was 10 minutes just a few minutes earlier was now 80 minutes! WHAT?!?! That was crazy. I asked the CM if the time was accurate. He walked over and spoke to the CMs at the entrance. Apparently, there was a few tour groups that went through. WOW. I'd maybe wait 20 minutes... there was NO WAY I'd wait 80 minutes.

I walked back down Sunset Boulevard and met up with Melody who was shopping, trying to figure out what to buy for our mom's for watching the kids. We saw a few things that were possible choices but we didn't buy anything. It was almost time for Indiana Jones to start, so we strolled in that direction.

43927920150_zps43042f6e.jpg

Now we've been to Disney 10? times, and have never seen this show. I think the reason was all the guide books said not to bring small children to it because they will be scared. We sat down and the show started shortly after....

DSC06705.jpg

We liked it and we were glad we saw it. I don't think it would be scary for the kids at all. I think they would might get a little bored watching it though.

Since we were on that side of the park, I suggested that I ride Star Tours just to make sure the ride was functioning properly. The wait time was 10 minutes, but I was able to walk right in and get on with about a 1 minute wait. While I was riding Melody grabbed some fruit and found a nice spot to catch some sun. We kept walking through the park towards Pixar Place. Our FP window was open for TSM. On the walk we saw that The Backlot Tour was open. I think it has only been open once in all our Disney trips. We got in the line, which was fairly long. They called the next group of people and we made it to the front and were about to pass the CM when we were stopped. They had enough people - we had to wait for the next tour. UGH. I asked the CM how long the tour was and she said 35-40 minutes. We had to make a decision, to wait and hopefully make it to TSM before our FP ran out, or to just get out of line. We decided to take our chances and stay. I was watching the time like a hawk... Finally, the next group was called and we were ready for our tour.

While on our tour we had to stop numerous times because a girl kept standing up. The CM kept asking her to sit down which she did, but then moments later was standing again. At one point the girl (who was a teenager and was not english speaking) was sitting on the seat back. I could tell the CM was getting frustrated (as were the other riders) but I give the CM credit for keeping her cool. Not sure if there was a language barrier or the girl was just being an idiot. Finally the ride came to the end and I looked at Melody and said how I was thankful the BLT has been closed on every one of our trips. LOL

We walked over to TSM and had 5 minutes to spare before our FP window closed.

DSC06716_zpse3ff4e36.jpg

I beat her again and she couldn't use holding the kids as an excuse. It was just after 1 and we wanted to get back to the resort for a little R&R before our dinner. We did have one more stop to make though.

We have monogramed towels for both Christopher and Juliana and Melody wanted to get the baby one too. The only problem was, we didn't decide on a name yet. Melody & Juliana had their favorite name picked out but I didn't. We got to the counter to pick out a towel and then we had to tell the CM the name. We talked about it for a minute and we decided on Gabriella. I guess that will be a good story to tell her when she grows up- he name was chosen at checkout counter in Hollywood Studios. We ordered the towel and hopped the bus back to Old Key West.

We stopped in the room to get our bathing suits on, well one of us did. The other one forget to pack hers.... and for the first time since 6am I was able to use the bathroom again! I drank about 6 water bottles and a power-aid since the run ended. I guess I was a little dehydrated. We hopped on a bus back to the Hospitality House and ordered up a little snack. Conch chowder and some onion rings. That would be sure to hold us (me) over till dinner. The chowder was spicy and meaty. I really enjoyed it and it brought me back to the first time I ate conch chowder in the Bahamas.

DSC06718_zps36a3ab07.jpg

I also treated myself to a cold beer. I think after the events of the early morning, I deserved one. We found a few chairs and Melody was just relaxing in the sun. I took a quick swim in the pool...

Up next... a DISDads meet & All you can eat

Those tour groups will screw up the lines every single time. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: You should have done TOT first and then the single rider line for that horrid roller coaster.

Love the photopass pics of you and Mel.

Gabriella--what a beautiful name. Mark and Alisha's flower girl's name is Gabriella.

We've done done Indiana Jones since 2008 and the only reason we did it is our friends who were with us had never seen it. I figure I've seen it once and no need to do it again. But I never thought it would frighten children. Bore them to death...yes, but not frighten.

I cannot believe you had never done the Backlot tour. Andy got picked three or four years ago when he took his baseball team fo ra tournament to participate

Glad you two got some relaxing pool time. My goal is to actually go the main pool this trip as we have yet to do it (okay, I went once with Cayley and Avery, but it's not the same because I didn't go in the pool).

Before I continue....

If you want to take a few minutes and check out THIS video taken during the 1/2. You can run the whole route in 13 minutes without even leaving your house.

Now that's the best way I've seen to run a race yet! Can't believe you suckers actually did it on foot. Where's my medal?:sad2::rotfl:

There was a tent with 1/2 marathon merchandise and I stopped in and grabbed a few souvenirs.

Now I know why you weren't buying t-shirts anywhere else.

In order to get on the monorail, you have to go through Epcot security. Why there were only 2 people checking bags, I will never understand. There was also a Brazilian tour group in line.

:faint:

I passed up the 10 minute wait for ToT.

Good call. Way too long to be worth it.:thumbsup2

:headache: Gee. Can't ride ToT. What a shame. :rotfl2:

Now we've been to Disney 10? times, and have never seen this show. I think the reason was all the guide books said not to bring small children to it because they will be scared. We sat down and the show started shortly after....

We liked it and we were glad we saw it. I don't think it would be scary for the kids at all. I think they would might get a little bored watching it though.

I've always liked that show. The only problem for my kids was that it was really LOUD. My boys both watched the whole thing with their hands over their ears.

Backlot tour...TSM. Yup, that's a toughie. :lmao:

Finally the ride came to the end and I looked at Melody and said how I was thankful the BLT has been closed on every one of our trips. LOL

:rotfl2: Well, like most things, it's interesting to try...once.

We walked over to TSM and had 5 minutes to spare before our FP window closed.

At least you guys were productive!

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

I think it would be even funnier if you guys changed your minds again. Then your daughter would grow up all her life thinking, "Who the #$%@ is Gabriella?":rotfl2:

It's a very nice name, though. :thumbsup2

We stopped in the room to get our bathing suits on, well one of us did. The other one forget to pack hers.... and for the first time since 6am I was able to use the bathroom again!

Oh, come on. I'm sure there were plenty of bushes along the way.

Hey Kelly :welcome: Nice to see you! How's Florida?

Thank you!!!! and Thank you again!!! :lmao: :goodvibes:goodvibes

Florida is quite lovely, thanks for asking! Especially considering the snow storm due to hit the NE this weekend :scared1:

Instead of shoveling snow this weekend I'll be wearing shorts & flip flops walking around Epcot. I think I made the right choice

luvin the update. That pool looks great and inviting.

What a fun update! I love the name story and Gabriella is beautiful, just beautiful. Heavens, I keep reading TR's that involve half's and have a co worker breathing down my neck doing every DLR run in sight with his wife popping into my office weekly to nudge me, it almost makes me want to run. Almost. People posting corrals for the princess makes me calculate what my time "could" be. And then I think about the o'dark thirty part and the crowds and...my sanity comes back. And I remember, I don't run.

Oh OKW, how I love that place. That chowder looks SO good right now...as does that pool. You did deserve a cold beer.

At 3:45, you can see me in the bottom left hand corner turning around towards the fireworks behind us then turning back around towards the camera. Exciting stuff, I know!
Well, with those shirts you should be easy to spot... :rotfl2::lmao:

A pint glass
You just ran 13.1 miles. Have a beer. :thumbsup2

In order to get on the monorail, you have to go through Epcot security.
Really??? :confused3 Why's that? I thought the monorail station was outside the security check... you don't have to go through security to get on at TTC.

We got into the park and I went to the bathroom to change, while Melody ran over to TSM to grab FPs.
I just can't believe you went straight to a park and changed. I'd have wanted to take a shower first or jump in a pool to cool down after that a run like that. Or maybe just dive into Echo Lake. :rotfl2:

I should of had her buy me one of those awesome cupcakes but I already ate 3 bananas and drank 4 waters and a power-aid.
No excuses. Those cupcakes are awesome. And the sugar rush might have been helpful at that point in the day. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

What could we fit in before Indiana Jones? How about ToT and RnCC!
Great idea!!! I'm sure Melody will enjoy that too!

Oh yeah... I guess you'll be off having fun while she's sitting around waiting for you.

I walked into the studio and got right in to see the show. The line was short and I asked to ride in the front car. Before I knew it I was cruising the highways of LA.
Nice! :thumbsup2

As I was walking over to ToT, I saw the wait time which was 10 minutes just a few minutes earlier was now 80 minutes!
What the Beverly??? :faint:

Apparently, there was a few tour groups that went through. WOW. I'd maybe wait 20 minutes... there was NO WAY I'd wait 80 minutes.
Wow... define "a few." :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: Must have been a lot of tour groups in line to back it up that much.

I never did factor the Brazilian influence into Barry's anniversary plans... something like that could really throw a kink in his plans.

Now we've been to Disney 10? times, and have never seen this show. I think the reason was all the guide books said not to bring small children to it because they will be scared. We sat down and the show started shortly after....
I like the show. Haven't seen it since 2008, so it isn't a must do, but it's got explosions and stunt work, so it works for me. :thumbsup2 Not really something I've ever considered scary, unless you have a child that just can't handle the loud noises. :confused3 I'd tend to think boredom between scenes would definitely be the bigger issue.

They had enough people - we had to wait for the next tour. UGH. I asked the CM how long the tour was and she said 35-40 minutes. We had to make a decision, to wait and hopefully make it to TSM before our FP ran out, or to just get out of line.
Wait a minute... there was a decision to be made???? :confused3 :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

We decided to take our chances and stay.
And that's what you went with?????? :confused3 :faint:

At one point the girl (who was a teenager and was not english speaking) was sitting on the seat back. I could tell the CM was getting frustrated (as were the other riders) but I give the CM credit for keeping her cool. Not sure if there was a language barrier or the girl was just being an idiot.
I tend to think that in most cases the language barrier is only a barrier when convenient... They need to give CM's duct tape...

Finally the ride came to the end and I looked at Melody and said how I was thankful the BLT has been closed on every one of our trips. LOL
I haven't riddent it since 2008 and I can't say that I'm upset about it. Truthfully, it used to be a much, much better experience back in the 90's. They have just whittled away at it to the point that it is just a shell of what it used to be, unfortunately. It sounds like it might be going away for good though if they do the Carsland thing, so at least you got to do it once.

Well, I guess that gift shop at Hollywood Studios will always be special to your family. :lmao:

By the way, was Gabriella the name Melody and Juliana had already picked?

I also treated myself to a cold beer. I think after the events of the early morning, I deserved one.
Absolutely... you just told us you were dehydrated. So yes, by all means, have a beer. :faint:

Gabriella- what a beautiful name! I'm sure that will make a great story. After all, all of life's important decisions should be made in Disney :rotfl:

I love BLT but I don't think its an every trip ride. It can be a little long and being cut off at the end of the tram group stinks! I've heard rumors that they're planning on scraping it which does make me a little sad. Its always nice to see some of that old movie magic!

Glad you made your TSM FP window. I just rode that one for the first time and January and it was awesome! Totally worth all the hype/lines/excitement! :cool1:

Holy cow- I knew you went to the park soon after but there was NO WAY I was I was going RIGHT to a park.

I was so overheated, ice on the Head, stagger to the car, to the room and into the tub with cool water under I got chilled then warm to help regualte body temperature.

I guess I have a real problem regulating my body temperature. :rotfl:

Ate, slept ....THEN went to a park. :thumbsup2

By the way... bathroom for me as soon as I walked in the room. :cool1: Had to go the whole race.

Those tour groups will screw up the lines every single time. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: You should have done TOT first and then the single rider line for that horrid roller coaster.
I guess if I knew TOT was going to just to 80 minutes I would of. :headache:

Love the photopass pics of you and Mel.
Thank u!

Gabriella--what a beautiful name. Mark and Alisha's flower girl's name is Gabriella.
Thanks! Melody & Juliana have been pushing for Gabriella for a while. :goodvibes

We've done done Indiana Jones since 2008 and the only reason we did it is our friends who were with us had never seen it. I figure I've seen it once and no need to do it again. But I never thought it would frighten children. Bore them to death...yes, but not frighten.
:lmao::lmao:

Maybe a few load booms might scare Christopher but he ended up liking the fireworks so he probably would be fine.

I cannot believe you had never done the Backlot tour. Andy got picked three or four years ago when he took his baseball team fo ra tournament to participate
It has been closed every single time. (except once!)

Glad you two got some relaxing pool time. My goal is to actually go the main pool this trip as we have yet to do it (okay, I went once with Cayley and Avery, but it's not the same because I didn't go in the pool).
We went to the main pool because I wanted a drink and I saw that conch chowder on the menu. :goodvibes

Now that's the best way I've seen to run a race yet! Can't believe you suckers actually did it on foot. Where's my medal?
:lmao::lmao:

There is room for 1 more on our team for next Jan. Just sayin'popcorn::

Now I know why you weren't buying t-shirts anywhere else.
Yea. I was broke!

Good call. Way too long to be worth it.:thumbsup2

:headache: Gee. Can't ride ToT. What a shame. :rotfl2:
I'm sure a 0 minute wait is too long for you. :rolleyes1

I think it would be even funnier if you guys changed your minds again. Then your daughter would grow up all her life thinking, "Who the #$%@ is Gabriella?":rotfl2:
:lmao::lmao:

or 'We had to name you that honey. The towel told us to!'

It's a very nice name, though. :thumbsup2
Thank you!

Oh, come on. I'm sure there were plenty of bushes along the way.
There were plenty of bushes... just no urge to go. I guess I was a little dehydrated.

Love the name Gabriella! What a great story!

Jill in CO
Thank you! :goodvibes

Florida is quite lovely, thanks for asking! Especially considering the snow storm due to hit the NE this weekend
I still have power! It is a bad one. We have probably close to 16'' now with 8 hours or so to go.

Instead of shoveling snow this weekend I'll be wearing shorts & flip flops walking around Epcot. I think I made the right choice
OK! THATS ENOUGH! :headache:

:lmao::lmao:;)

luvin the update. That pool looks great and inviting.
The pool area was really nice and fun. They were playing games with the kids who were having a blast!

Nice update and cool video. I even managed to pick you out.
Thanks!!! You can see everything we saw during the run. I think I've watched that video 10 times already. :thumbsup2

What a fun update! I love the name story and Gabriella is beautiful, just beautiful. And I remember, I don't run.
I've read your comments about not running on a few threads... Train a bit and do a 5k to see if you like it. I think I'm addicted. Now if I can only get back to training. :headache:

Oh OKW, how I love that place. That chowder looks SO good right now...as does that pool. You did deserve a cold beer.
I really liked OKW. It was a fun resort and screamed Florida to us! :thumbsup2

Well, with those shirts you should be easy to spot...
Yes. Yes, we were!

You just ran 13.1 miles. Have a beer. :thumbsup2
I didn't buy it full... that pic was after I got home. But there were people buying beer in the runners area. At 8:30am. :hyper:

Really??? :confused3 Why's that? I thought the monorail station was outside the security check... you don't have to go through security to get on at TTC.
Epcot is different. You have to go through security even before you hit the ticket booths. Kinda a pain if you ask me. :headache:

I just can't believe you went straight to a park and changed. I'd have wanted to take a shower first or jump in a pool to cool down after that a run like that. Or maybe just dive into Echo Lake.
I had deodorant, clean shirt, shorts, boxers, socks. Why not goto a park? I wasn't the only one. :rotfl:

No excuses. Those cupcakes are awesome. And the sugar rush might have been helpful at that point in the day.
If I had a high intake of sugar at that point, I probably would of passed out an hour later. :hyper:

What the Beverly???
Maybe Mark was in charge of the FP return time. :duck:

[QUOTEWow... define "a few." Must have been a lot of tour groups in line to back it up that much.[/QUOTE]
Probably the same ones I was behind in Epcot. :badpc:

I never did factor the Brazilian influence into Barry's anniversary plans... something like that could really throw a kink in his plans.
::yes::

Wait a minute... there was a decision to be made???? :confused3 :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

And that's what you went with?????? :confused3 :faint:
You don't agree with our decision? :confused3

I tend to think that in most cases the language barrier is only a barrier when convenient... They need to give CM's duct tape...
Yup.

I hear carsland is all but officially announced.

Well, I guess that gift shop at Hollywood Studios will always be special to your family.
Yes, it will be. :lmao:

By the way, was Gabriella the name Melody and Juliana had already picked?
Yes, they have been pressing for Gabriella for a while.

Absolutely... you just told us you were dehydrated. So yes, by all means, have a beer. :faint:
Hey, I voided once. that means I was good to go! :woohoo:

Gabriella- what a beautiful name! I'm sure that will make a great story. After all, all of life's important decisions should be made in Disney :rotfl:
Thank you. Yes, all the important decisions should be made there. I should go back to decide if we are going to put an addition on our house.

I love BLT but I don't think its an every trip ride. It can be a little long and being cut off at the end of the tram group stinks! I've heard rumors that they're planning on scraping it which does make me a little sad. Its always nice to see some of that old movie magic!
Yep, its a gone-er. Carsland is coming.

Glad you made your TSM FP window. I just rode that one for the first time and January and it was awesome! Totally worth all the hype/lines/excitement! :cool1:
Yea it is a great ride! Addicting too. :goodvibes

Hope you are staying warm and have power!

Holy cow- I knew you went to the park soon after but there was NO WAY I was I was going RIGHT to a park.
I thought if I went to nap, I wouldn't get back out! :lmao:

I was so overheated, ice on the Head, stagger to the car, to the room and into the tub with cool water under I got chilled then warm to help regualte body temperature.
I think I needed an ice bath for my legs. That probably would of helped. :cool2:

I guess I have a real problem regulating my body temperature. :rotfl:
:rotfl2:

Ate, slept ....THEN went to a park. :thumbsup2
I did those things too... just not in that order! :lmao:

By the way... bathroom for me as soon as I walked in the room. :cool1: Had to go the whole race.
:lmao::lmao:

Good to know!!

:lmao::lmao:

What a wonderful name, and yes that will be a funny story to tell ....even funnier if the ultrasound was wrong. Sorry son, you are stuck with that name, we had a towel made with it. :rotfl2:

I had a few things done in Claire's name before she was born. I found the sex out by amnio, and it was like 96% accurate, and I worried that I would be that small percentage that was wrong.

I watched the video and I did see you! You are now FAMOUS!!!!!

That must've been one big tour group, as I can't believe they couldn't move them through faste enough. 80 minutes is crazy!
