I don't mind the snow, but I hate that my husband has to get to and from work in it. He works at a hospital, so he has to go in. Also, he has by what many New Englanders consider a 'bad' car for snow- a mustang (2007)...it has rear wheel drive, and is low to the ground. DOT never plows the streets in Hartford, but usually he braves the weather and gets home- he says HE knows how to drive his car in the snow At times, he has spent the night at the hospital if the weather is really bad, so that is the option I push for when it is bad out.

My daughter is scheduled to fly out of Logan Friday night at 615pm to go to France for an exchange program. She will be so upset if the flight gets delayed.

The French students were here in October and got stranded for an extra weeek after the hurricane.

I have Friday off to say goodbye to my daughter so at least I don't have to travel too far.

For 7 years I worked over an hour away from work on a good day. On snow days I would trek into work only to find those people who lived close by had called out due to the snow. Used to drive me crazy.

I assume the exchange program is making alternate flight plans by now, yes? That 6:00 flight is not going to happen. Can she switch to Fri morning? If not, she may not be going till they clear this mess up, maybe by Sat. night at the earliest.

I understand what you are saying Pea-n-Me After the two storms 2 years ago, he spent about 4 nights total at the hospital because our house was without power 2x's for an average of 4 days each time- he sleeps with a c-pap machine and it runs on electricity.

When we had bad snow storms a couple of years ago as well, he would just stay the night at the hospital so he did not have to worry about getting back to work in the morning. It aggrivates me when storms happen and other people's advice is just to not go into work- DH doesn't have that luxury. And don't get me started about how our state assumes no one works on the weekends (DH works every saturday from 3-11pm)- they NEVER plow highways and the city streets after like 4pm on the weekends (if they plow at all ) because they figure no one really has to work....grrrr- guess I had to vent, too!

ETA- during hurricane Sandy DH had to use his essential employee badge to get to work because our governor closed the highways and he wasn't about to try to get to work going on backroads.

I agree. You/the tour company should be trying to rebook them now. Don't wait, or there may not be room on the flights out for the next few days post-storm. Planes are flying less frequently and fuller than in the past, and people with the original bookings on those later flights won't be bumped in favor of the folks whose flight didn't go.

Oh boy, now we're under a blizzard watch, should be a very interesting 24 hrs. I just picked up the last couple of D batteries at our CVS. And went to Walmart for a rechargeable Coleman lantern with LED lights. For years we've been using the one needing propane, not good when you can't open the windows in Winter. So glad we have this now, I just know we're going to lose power with this one.

Thank you! It's almost right on our doorstep in the morning. You should see the grocery stores around here! I've done everything there is to do, now we just wait for this monster to arrive!

My area is suppose to get 12-16 inches
I went food shopping, got gas, bought rock salt, have the shovels ready, got batteries, flashlights & candles. I'm ready! Hopefuly since I did all that, we'll only get 2 inches

So far our schools have just cancelled all after school activities/events. I'm guessing they will be sent home early.

Yes, all schools on the South Shore and Boston have been cancelled, per order of the Governor (or strongly encouraged rather). My husband works in Boston and he's working from home tomorrow, so I'm very releaved that my family is home safe for the whole day.

Stay safe guys!! Here in Va, it doesn't take a lot to shut us down. However, we moved a lot as a kid, and I can remember living near Lake Huron, and in Glens Falls NY. Winter seemed to last til May!!

When you first posted this, I was going to say you were too far out for us to get all worked up about..... Shows how much I know.

I worked today until 3, was at the market by 3:15, and was out by 4:00. I hate that I had to go today, but we needed regular groceries, not just the makings of Blizzard French Toast! The new Market Basket in WB had every register open, and had a bagger at each lane too. They did a great job today.

DH & DS went and 'borrowed' my parents' generator (Mom & Dad are in FL), we have gas for the generator & snow blower. Plenty of food, and if we lose power, at least the perishables can go outside.
