I have to thank all of you who keep this board going. I spent hours reading along, lurking, and soaking up all of your knowledge before this vacation. Remember, I was a Poly expert so this trip sent me right out of my comfort zone. Thank you, your thoughtful, dedicated work on this board resulted in adding to my family's enjoyment. I arrived at YC and felt like I had a wealth of knowledge and a familiarization of the layout.
I just want to say if I can ever pay it forward, I am happy to do so.
My dh always says he wants to vacation elsewhere, but for the past 5 years we have been returning the WDW and I know I am not the only one having the blues. In fact, guess who went out and bought the ingredients to the Sunken Treasure and has made me 2 so far? (he's perfecting his skills). So, while he denies it, we all call him Disney Dad because, he too, is addicted just not "man enough" to admit it.
The CMs at YC CL were, IMO, more friendly than Poly. They were just so nice and willing to help with anything. That first morning, I was so exhausted and I happened to come by the desk when the lounge was closed and those thoughtful CM's went and made me a cup of tea, seriously - imo, that is the icing on the cake.
For my family, a balcony is important so we will choose YC over BC for the comfort of knowing that request will be met.
This is the second trip that we utilized Kids Nite Out and we requested the same sitter as we had in October. That was really nice. DH and I went to Yachtsman, the kids went to Beaches and Cream and to the arcade. They love her and some time away from us did us all good. I was very nervous in October when it was our first time but dd11 has a cell phone and I told her to call me if anything seemed off. But I had nothing to worry about, it was a great experience and we used the same girl, Tara, this trip too.
But I just really want to express a HUGE THANK YOU. I don't know if you all know just how much this thread has helped. We have been to the world numerous times and each time we still do things we have never tried before. Simply amazing.
I can't turn my addiction to this thread off so I will be lurking and reading along.
Dee, Teena, and all of you - I humbly thank you.

We *almost* became BCV DVC members. I called about a resale contract yesterday but it had already sold. :( Now that I have permission to buy a resale BCV contract though, I'll be more aggressive...

Good luck finding the perfect BCV contract! We bought ours last summer. Can't wait for our March trip!

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards App, please excuse any typos or autocorrects!

ALMinVA-So glad you ended up having a fabulous trip!!! I can't wait to get there in 74 long days. :cool1:

I remember my countdown! Don't worry - it will go so fast :thumbsup2
You are in NH...thats our next vacation, we spend the first two weeks of July on Lake Winnipesaukee (sp?) My husband's family has been vacationing in Moultonborough for almost 40 years. Its gorgeous there and my dh says its his dream to live there.

DVC members get a discount on the tie dying t-shirts :thumbsup2
I think I paid $18 and they were saying DVC members pay $15.
I also heard, and could be rumor, that they were starting fast pass plus in march for mk and over the summer for epcot.
Hope you have a great trip!

Now that's exciting!! :)

ALMinVA Excellent review and great photos :thumbsup2

This was sold within a few hours of being listed! I think we need either a June or an August use-year so I'm going to wait for the right contract.

We've been talking DVC for years. We each got a little unexpected bonus in the last month so we could finally pay cash for DVC. I didn't want to finance a Timeshare!!!

Amanda

Since you know a lot about DVC, can you answer question for me please? I got info from DVC that included typical contract, for BVC it said contract was up 2042 & Bay Lake was 2060. I'm only in my 30s so in 29 years I still want to be using DVC (God willing!). Does it make sense to go with a DVC with a longer time frame? I know it costs a little more, but you get 18 more years! I wouldn't want to buy a new contract in 29 yrs. I find this confusing. :confused3 I know I can ask on DVC board, but everyone here's so nice & helpful! :)

Thanks,
Angeejoe

Well, we are home and its snowing and we miss the YC already. But boy what a great week. No complaints whatsoever.
For what its worth here are my two cents:
What started out rough with DH and that chaos of getting him out of Toronto ended beautifully.
We arrived at YC at 11:58pm Saturday evening. That meant no one to greet us at the lobby when we drove up, no one to check us in on the 5th floor. And that would have been just fine, but I ran into some problems that people should be aware about. The CM issued charging privileges to my 11 year old and didn't want to take the time to fix that problem, now granted I could have stood there and argued but I was tired and knew I would enlist the CMs on the 5th floor to help in the morning, so the CM on ground floor told me not to worry that without the pin number, DD would not be able to charge. Well, most of the rfid machines were down when we were there so this was not the case, and if she had lost her card there could have been trouble - not one cm asked for id when we used our cards to purchase items and we had not signed the back. The check in cm also informed me the hotel was out of gold cards and so everyone was using blue keys. I am not picky so whatever right?
Next morning I go straight to 5th floor concierge and they immediately fix charging privileges on dd keys and miraculously the gold keys appear as did all sorts of paperwork and information that previous night CM did not give out. IMO, if you arrive late at night, check back in the morning to make sure everything is ok, just to be sure, thats just been my experience and not specific to YC.

Folks, that was my only "negative" experience at the YC. And when I told the 5th floor cm about the experience, they went out of their way to correct the problem. The next day we even got a voice mail from the manager making sure we had everything we needed and apologizing. Now that is service. We enjoyed every other aspect. Having CL was perfect because the BC marketplace is a little walk and with hungry kids in the morning, the lounge was very convenient.

The lounge never felt crowded to me no matter what time we were there. Though there was this one lady who would wear her robe, you know the ones they give you in the room, to the lounge every night at appetizers. Then her mother, or who appeared to be her mother, started showing up in her robe so the two of them would come in their robes. um, yeah, that was a bit out of taste for me. sorry, we are not all family and this is not your living room...i don't mean to offend anyone but there was clearly nothing underneath that robe if you catch my drift...eeeww!
Anyhow, there was never a line and that was a pleasant surprise since I've stayed Poly CL and always encountered lines around the food areas.

We were amazed at the low crowds last Sunday in MK. We were so surprised. We went in at 10:45. Walked on Jungle Cruise, POC, then checked DS in for his haircut at the barber shop. Turned out that the woman who cut his hair and I went to the same high school - small world! We then ate lunch at Pecos and headed to Haunted Mansion, again not even a 10 minute wait. We went on Buzz in under 10 minutes and on the new Ariel ride which we walked on. It was weird! After doing some photo pass pictures we had a reservation at BOG and that was fabulous. It was a full long day but fabulous.

Monday had more of the same low crowds, we did extra morning hours at Animal Kingdom and by 10 had done EE and safari and seen the Nemo show. So we hit Tusker House for breakfast and some touring and then headed out to rest up for Pirates League and Pirates and Pals fireworks voyage which was fabulous.

Tuesday we went to Sea World. Now, my dd and dh love Manta and Kracken so they hit those and then we all did the log flume, can't remember name of it and guess what - thats when we saw them and they were every where - the tour groups....my goodness, it was so overwhelming! We went on to feed some sting rays, did the new turtle trek and then had lunch at Sharks Underwater Grill and then called it a day - we preferred to be at SAB then fighting those groups..it was difficult.

So - you know the rest of the story.

My family got to meet Teena! And we promise we will bring tomatoes next time!

Thought I would post some photos of our rooms view. Remember we booked GV and received a LV room. Now, i think they may look at this as a bad view because of the round roof right in front but i think it was perfect. Our room was 5233 and we had 2 queens and a daybed. Loved it!

ALMinVA,

Thank you for sharing! Great report & pics! :cool1:

If you contact the 3 most popular resellers and let them know what you are looking for, sometimes you might be able to get an advance call or email before the listing goes up, or right after the listing is posted.

It really depends on what is more important to you - more years or picking a certain location as your home resort. If you know you want the longer years, you can buy one of the later contracts. Saratoga Springs (2054), Animal Kingdom Lodge (2057) and Bay Lake Towers (2060) at Disney World all have dates after 2042.

I think you got a great answer! I'm 41 and my DH is 43 so 2042 will be just fine for us. We like BC a lot - great location, especially for adult trips where we focus more on Epcot and DHS, and we love SAB as well as the whole Boardwalk area. We like to eat dinner at Epcot or Swan/Dolphin have great restaurants and it's all walking distance. I want the 11 month window for Food & Wine. BLT would probably be my 2nd choice. My kids actually loved staying at BLT. :confused3

We aren't really "actively" looking. I saw the contract and then a few hours later my DH announced that he was getting an unexpected windfall. I told him about the contract and he agreed that I could call. Now I know I have permission so I'll be a bit more aggressive in looking. :rolleyes1
Thanks for the good advice though.

Thank you 333disneymom! That helps see all the later years. Do you have DVC at BCV? Do you like it if you do?

We really like EPCOT area & SAB so BCV would be our 1st choice, but I want more years! I wish you could choose a specific time frame ie 20, 30,40yrs!

Can I ask what resale was selling for & number of points? Ballpark is fine.

:thumbsup2Thanks,
Angeejoe

Today was the first time my dad mentioned Disney and was excited about it. I'm making a breakthrough.

'I don't have any money because I'm going to Disney world!' Hahaha he wasn't negative about it though.

I lay here anticipating my first real on site experience! I just want it to be March already!!

I have been away from my laptop since mid January and I'm still trying to catch up on everything! But for now I'll go to bed and dream about being steps away from Epcot! Oh and those homemade chips. And coconut pastries. Mmn

Yacht Club - CL

I have a couple of questions : )

Is there more than one elevator to access this floor. One closer to BC/SAB? I'm looking for a quieter room, so assuming away from the Lounge a bit makes sense, which pushes me towards the row of rooms that extend towards the BC. Is this true? Being slightly closer to EP and SAB access is also a plus...unless we have to trek back to the elevator by the CL Lobby each time.

Any room favorites? Trying to balance convenience with a minimum of chatty guests in the hallways.

Are there any corner rooms...do you know what they contain and where they are located?

Thanks!

Hello everyone! Been a lurker for awhile...lol just wanted to join in all the fun. I have enjoyed reading all the great information every one has been posting about the YC/BC. Thanks to everyone who posted! My husband and I are going for our 25th Anniversary April 29 - May 6. Staying at the YC club level SV. Wanted GV but it's sold out. :sad2: To say I'm excited about staying at the Y/C is an understatement! :jumping1:Lol I can't wait, i'm especially excited staying CL..lol Thanks again for all the great info....

:welcome: and Congratulations!

So glad you decided to join us.

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list on Page 1.

:wave2:

Well, we did it. In just a few hours I will be paying our deposit for 9 nights at the YC CL. It's been too long since we've been to WDW. This isn't the trip I originally planned, but we're going! :cool1:

:welcome:

When is your trip? September-ish???

I hope you have an amazing trip!

:yay:

Just booked pool view for may31 to June 7. This is our second trip but first at yacht club. We r so excited!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the list for your first stay at the Yacht Club.

:woohoo:

Dee - get the eraser out!!!

DH said that since we are flying this year instead of driving he didn't want the hassle of a split stay. So now we are staying BC June 29-July 15!

I couldn't get a low fare for the flight home with Frontier so now we are flying down on Frontier and home on Jet Blue! This trip gets crazier and crazier!

You, again??? ;)

Sounds great to me, and now you will be at the Beach Club while Teena is still around.

That should work!

:banana::banana::banana:

I will be at beach club in may! my first time!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list for May.

Let us know if you have any questions about the resort.

:goodvibes

Do you have a trip booked or are you in the planning stages?

I've never been up to club level at YC, so I don't know the layout or have answers, but hopefully someone here can help.

:cool1:

Do you have an upcoming stay? Hope you are able to find a DVC contract that works for your family!

:cheer2:

Angeejoe - The BCV resale contracts seem to sell for high $70s per point. The one we looked at was a 75 point contract for $78 per point. The small contracts sell quickly and for a slightly higher price per point. I have literally spent months lurking in the DVC forums so I could learn as much as possible!
Good luck!

Amanda

Dee, Teena, and all of you - I humbly thank you.

:)

You are very welcome!!!

We all certainly shared in the drama leading up to your trip.

And reveled in your triumphant introduction to the delicacies offered at HH.

I hope you will do more than lurk! Stay and play with us!!!

BTW- may I use the pictures of of the tyedying on the front page of the thread? If you want me to crop out any identifiable faces, I can do that.

And when you get a chance, can you add your view pictures and room summary to the view thread. No rush on that. I know you have laundry. And pictures. And life to catch up on!

200 more days until my first stay at Beach Club. I am so excited, have wanted to stay here forever and now we are. I love reading all these posts

Absolutely you may use the pictures - no cropping necessary. When I open the t-shirts up I will post those pictures so you can see the end product - there is supposed to be a Mickey Mouse on the front. I will add others to the room summary view thread later on today.

Blah - first day back to work! DH and I are talking about a BCV stay in August to bring my sister and nephews when they visit from Ireland...we brought them last year and we stayed Kidani but I think they would love SAB so I might have a ticker to start again :cool1:

I do have a picture the final product by cindydare, but would love to see yours, too!
