Anyone know .......

Do the deluxe rooms usually fill up during the summer months? Or are they often empty?
Since they are the only WL rooms that accommodate 6, they can be popular. But, there are 24 of them and I've never seen them offered with an AP or military room-only discount, so I can't imagine they go that fast at almost rack rate for many and at a premium with CL access. I think sometimes people report not being able to get one using a discount, but they may be available at rack:eek:

AAA booked our Honeymoon Suite at WL for the last week of Sept 2013 in Nov 2012.....and we got the AAA room discount!

September may traditionally be a low crowd month, but I wasn't taking any chances!!!!
Congratulations on booking and welcome to the thread. Lots of time for planning:thumbsup2

Last time we visited the WL we stayed in the south wing. Thinking about the north wing this go around (woods view). We'll try to get an upper floor. At the room request tips?

Thanks for the replies about my concern with bus transportation. We have 2 ADR's at other resorts- 1900 Park Fare and Cape May Cafe, so it seems the quickest way to get there would be take the bus to MK and transfer there.

I love the planning phase- can't wait!

We'll be dining at 1900 Park Fare, too, one week from today, as a matter of fact. :cool1: We plan to take the AK or HS bus to GF, since it is supposed to go to GF before going to the park. But I'll ask the bus driver before I get on the bus, just to be sure. The other choice would be to the boats, from WL to MK then MK to GF. I love the options. :wizard:

Are you asking about requests you could make? If so, the high floor is probably most popular since you might be able to see some of Wishes. Some also prefer 5th floor because it's the highest floor that doesn't have any of the solid balcony railings.

I always say that the planning and anticipation is half the fun!

And yet another option is the CR Blue Flag boat and then monorail to GF.

Nice place!
:welcome: to the DIS and the WL/VWL thread!

Thanks! My daughter might want us to take the monorail because the kids would like it. But I take a commuter train for work, so the monorail loses its appeal for me. ;)

I'm voting for boats :thumbsup2.

Does this mean you're not crazy about the MK train either?

You're trip is coming up soon:), are you packed yet? Will you be checking in with us during your vacation?

Just a heads up, we were there over MLK weekend and wanted to get to the GF quickly from WL. I checked with each bus driver (EC, HS, AK) and all of them were going to FW and not the GF. We finally hopped on the MK bus.

We did not stay here for the week so I can't report on if this is a total change or not.

Brian

PS: Kook can you add us to the Log for 6/9 to 6/16 1br at VWL?

I love the MK train. ;) We aren't packed yet. We are planning to do that tomorrow and Sunday. It looks like we'll have great weather.

I'll be checking in. I'm expecting to love it so much I've already got my bounce back dates picked out for the first week in December. :)

Thanks for letting me know. We will have ridden the bus to AK and HS by then, so that will help. I just don't want to take the long way around on the monorail. :(

My kids did the 9:30 a.m. pirate cruise from the GF in December, and we did indeed just hop on one of the buses. At that point, the CM said all but one bus was going to stop at GF first. It seems to me that they do change up the routes depending on crowd level, so you can just ask while you're there. I don't think you'll have a problem. It's a lot more convenient for sure!

Wow! There's a lot great of info in this thread! Just finished up reading thru most of it!! It certainly sold me on wilderness lodge!!! Now we are all booked to go in September for my birthday! Thanks so much everyone! pixiedust:

How did you reserve the pirate cruise? We are staying at WL in early April and it sounds like fun. Our son is 5. Did you just relax at GF while your child participated?

We just switched over here from the poly. I'm so excited because I'm from Oregon and can't wait. I haven't been back in 10 years. Kids have no idea were even staying at a deluxe the last half of r trip.

So put us down June 30-July 5

The only bus from WL I've been on that went to GF was the DTD bus - but that's been quite a while ago. I remember thinking that it was odd that CR and Poly shared a DTD bus, and WL and GF, when it makes more sense to match up CR/WL and Poly/GF to me.

Just saying hi! So many new people here lately, sharing the love of the lodge (even the ones who haven't stayed there yet!)

I am procrastinating my ADR planning. (my day is tomorrow!) I have been reading about all sorts of problems with the mobile app and website and will probably take my chances with a 7 am call instead of going online. I am sure my plans will change over time anyhow. I feel like I have to have my entire 8 days planned out before I make my ADRs and there is no way I am ready to do that at 180 days!

Our choices from our canceled trip were: Raglan Rd. ,Yachtsman Steakhouse, Artist's Point, Boma's, Via Napoli, and breakfast at Trail's End. Some quick service-Columbia Harbor House, maybe Tangierine Cafe. Now, we are probably going to try to add BoG for dinner, in spite of the reviews (maybe I will just have soup and a cupcake!) I am tempted by everyone's raves for Tokyo Dining here. My DD loves sushi so maybe.... Anyhow, there's time. I always have to remind myself that just because I am eligible to make ADRs at 180 days, I don't have to do it then for most of the places we eat ( we stopped going to LeCellier a few years ago. That was one we had to do early, but we were disappointed with it last time)

Back to planning!

You have to call for this one. Doesn't book online. And everyone goes, not just kids
