I bought the PAP at the DVC discount and it was a great deal. When the discount was reduced to 10% I wrote in saying that I thought the price of the PAP for DVC owners was great and hoped that they continue it next year, but that reducing the discount to 10% would most likely cause me to buy significantly less stuff. A 20% discount gets me to buy stuff I normally wouldn't, but the 10% doesn't. It's nice to have any kind of savings, but 10% won't encourange me to buy something, while 20% did. On the bright side my wife's and daughter's spending should drop significantly on the next trip

I wrote in as well. Within 24 hours, my husband and I received a survey from DVC specifically about purchasing the PAP, would I do it again next year, why not if no, how I felt about it, etc.

I was excited when the gave all DVC members 10% no matter what they had in park admission. i thought great, finally. And then they added the great deal for the PAP. I wouldnt of bought the PAP anyhow unless it was the same price as the regular. This affects more the non DVC members in my opinion. ALLthough like stated before, this last trip I bought more things then I wouldnt have bought before with the 20% that my parents got for me, since they bought the PAP. So yes I will be buying less merchandise. And if you think about it, lowering the price on the PAP does not make them loose money. It just makes happier customers. I would normally just get a regular one. And not go to the waterparks. But if they offer that discount they are now incentivizing the public to buy more. So I think its a silly decision. Since even if you gave 20% off you still will be doubling your profit on what you sell since everything is so marked up anyhow.

That's nice and all...but it still doesn't fix the fact that I bought the Premier Passport in mid-December, and I asked for a little benefits booklet, and they were all out...THERE WAS NO HEADS-UP ABOUT THE CHANGE IN DISCOUNT...so I am seriously mad at Disney for not grandfathering me into the change in discount...

What they should have done, if they insist on decreasing the discount amount, is grandfather in ALL premium and premier passport holders who purchased in 2012, but their passes expire sometime in 2013...they should still get there 20% discount until the pass expires. We bought under the pretense that we would be getting the 20% discount. Not jerk it away from us with a big slap in the face...I don't like getting duped!

I am a passholder. But in the booklet I was issued with my APs, it clearly states on the inside cover that benefits listed run from June 2012 to December 2012. Also, at the bottom of each subsequent page in red letters, it states "Benefits Expire December 31, 2012". It stinks, but it is what it is.

I got no booklet, and I am sure that is true...however, they should still give a warning...that's a pretty pricy difference and if I had known that info ahead of time, I would have gotten my old normal AP versus the "Grand Floridian" of Aps.

When purchasing in the middle of December (the 19th) to be exact, they should have had a booklet and note the change for the next year. That's fair and square...

We bought our AP in the first week of January 2013 and were given the booklet for 2012 and were told we could get the updated booklet when we come back later in the year

I am so mad about this...ridiculous! I have the premier passport and just purchased the dang thing in December. I already email Disney about this and I am writing a letter. I just forked out a TON of money and the deciding factor was the merchandise discount. I could have stuck with my NORMAL AP and just paid for the DL tix...the price was a wash...the only reason I decided to do the Premier Passport was the added discount! Ugghhhhhh

In case you don't know, you'll get a discount at Disneyland with it (merchandise and FOOD) (shall I repeat FOOD?) (and not just lunches between 2 and 3:30pm every other Thursday at 3 restaurants, but just about all food venues at all times).

Which you wouldn't have gotten with your normal ticket to Disneyland.

They were probably out of the benefits booklet - but I am sure if you would have asked, they would have given you a printout of the info from the AP website (like they were doing for TIW when they ran out of booklets(holders). The benefits used to be listed for a full year's length, last year I figured there would be some changes since the benefit periods were from Jan 2012 to June 2012 and then a new period from June 2012 to Dec 2012. This was not only on the booklet/holder but also under AP benefits on the website.
I buy an AP for the park admission - if it works out cheaper to get an AP than regular tickets, then we get the AP. Last year with the number of days we were at Disney, the park admission ended up being around $14 a day over 7 trips by using an AP. Definitely a savings over regular park tickets. The extra perks are just gravy and not to be counted on.

I think the bigger issue is that the profit units are broken out so while the company as a whole is certainly making a profit, they are trying to make a profit or more profit on merchandise sales. I don't have an annual pass as I live too far away and we only go once a year, but I would not be happy with a reduced benefit. I guess if the annual pass holders stopped buying things they would rethink the decision.

We wont be buying a PAP any more because it simply isn't worth it for us. We don't use DQ or the WP to make it worth the extra expense.

We wouldn't have bought anything beyond the regular one otherwise. But in the end it saves us a huge amount of money compared to buying park tickets 3X a year. I do hope they do offers like that for the PAP through DVC more often.

Example: we were planning a 2nd family vacation for 13 people in Dec 2013 so that we could go after all of the Christmas items were released. All 4 family homes have Disney themed decorations and we wanted to do a little Christmas shopping for the kids. We are willing to purchase items we normally would not with the 20% discount. The items are very over priced & that 20% makes a huge difference for all of us. Together in 2012 we all spent a little over 5K in merchandise alone. We saved over 1K. When the percentage was reduced we decided to only take our 7 day trip in September and cancel the Dec vacation.

Of course we were not going to Disney simply to shop, but the idea to plan the 2nd trip in December was created solely around the release of all of the Christmas items because we had the 20% discount on the PAPs. We decided to instead buy what we must have on disneyshopping.com and pass on the rest. So we canceled 4 rooms for a week and we will not be paying for over priced dining reservations.

I asked for some information on benefits of the Premier Passport, but the CM was just really sweet, smiled, and had no idea. She asked a few people, none seemed to have an answer. I figured I would research when I got back. And it changed almost immediately. Trust me, I go to WDW a ton, I definitely know how to inquire, they just didn't have anything to give me...at DTD. Seriously, I wasn't concerned at all because I had been seeing the premium pass holders get the bigger discount for 2 years and I was ready to jump on that bandwagon, too.

In your situation I can definitely see the big deal and would be upset as well. That is a lot of merchandise so a huge price difference.
