Looking for advice: I just got new Brooks Adrenaline 13s. I've been running in the 12s. I tried them out on Saturday for a long run, and they seemed good--certainly better than my broken-down 12s. But when I went on a short run yesterday, they were weird on my feet. There was a spot on my heel that felt pushed on; my feet felt heavy; and I felt like my right leg was "twisting" in. But, of course it was kind of slick and slushy, so I may have been running with a weird gait. I don't know what to do, because none of the other shoes I tried on in the store felt better than these.

My thoughts: Give them another try on my run on Thursday (warm rain will have cleared out the slush). Depending, I can try them one last time on Saturday's long run. Then I'd have to make the decision if I want to take them back on Sunday. (The store has a 15-day policy. Depending on how worn they think they are, it will be full refund or store credit.) I can probably still get a pair of 12s online. What do you think I should do? What should I look for when I am trying these in the next two runs?? Thoughts?

I'd give them at least one more "normal" run, if you have until Sunday you have time. I loved my Adrenalines but needed a different type shoe after my last knee surgery. I hope it was just yucky weather that made them feel off!

Expo update: a friend just let me know that Twitter is saying the Expo opens at 8:30am, both days, not 9:00. Oh boy

I have a ticket question that I am hoping that a veteran can answer PLEASE.....

I finally ordering our "specially priced" theme park tickets for our stay and I was wondering if I can just pick them up in will call (who knows where that would be) or do I have to have them sent to our home ?? Our mail person is a complete wackadoo and I really don't need something else to worry about like getting our tickets actually delievered to our home before we leave. Or is it possible to just pick this up at the Expo ??

Starting to STRESS out just a bit. What do you guys recommend ???

Thanks

You can order them via phone and pick them up at any of the parks will call. They to me over the phone last year that I could also get them at my hotel, but that was incorrect.

My experience thus far has been that if a shoe doesn't feel perfect from the start, it probably won't ever. Sometimes they feel perfect at the start and later feel less so, but any shoe that didn't feel good in the first few runs never got better. I say get some 12s if you can and see if that makes a difference, then go from there.

And today, on As the Running Shoe Turns...

So much for my "prefect" Brooks Ghosts - hellooo shin splints. The shoes really are perfect in every other way, but any time I go into a higher heel, it's instant shin splints. Doesn't seem to matter than I'm a mid-foot striker; if there's a big heel, forget it. Out of total desperation, I tried the Hoka One One Bondi 2, even - good grief, but they're ugly! Figured if ultra-marathoners swear by them to reduce muscle fatigue and joint pain, they'd be great... nope. The sole is awesome, but the shoe's not shaped for my foot.

I guess I'm back to my Pure Flows and I'll just have to live with the joint pain from pounding out double-digit miles. But first, I have to make this gawdawful pain in my left shin go away - any suggestions? I'm icing a few times a day, massaging my too-tight calf, wearing compression sleeves... anything else I can do? I couldn't even walk 5 minutes yesterday; today's run isn't looking good. :(

question for repeat Princesses: where exactly do you enter Epcot when you're running? is it by the resorts bus stops? I'm asking because my DH and DD are going to cheer me on and they will go to MK to cheer on Main Street and they want to find another spot before the 13.1 mile point. If they stand by the Bus Stops at Epcot will the see me?

If I remember correctly, and I should because I have run this race four times, but I don't. Perhaps just brain dead at that point in the race. We come in from an overpass and through the parking lot on the far side of the monorail....where the resort buses come in. When they get off the monorail, they will want to stay to the right (facing park), we will finish to the left of the monorail as in when you come off it and are facing the park. There will be plenty of people and they can't miss all the people cheering. We actually enter the park through a side entrance, again if you are facing the park, this would be right of the turnstiles. I am going to post this confusing explanation.
Hopefully some one can do a better job.

Some of y'all saw this on facebook already, but I think I've got my costume complete now. :)

LOVE THIS!

You guys are cracking me up with the nightmares! @Tabetha, thanks for the mascara tip. I remember you from last year--love your blog!

(ETA: drat, looks like it's only available in Canada. I suppose that happens to Canadians all the time so I shouldn't complain. :) )

MAN, I was bummed I couldn't get that mascara here in the US, but true about Canadian princesses often having this issue with other stuff!

it's probably jasmine because mary poppins is going off broadway and aladdin will replace it. disney is probably trying to get people pumped for aladdin :0

I LOVE Aladdin! Jasmine is nice and incentive to do some crunches. ;)

got some fun news today from my ortho about some knee pain i've been having. At best it got twisted during my surgery 3 weeks ago and i just need some cortisone, pain killers and some PT.... at worst I tore my meniscus and need surgery... but I started panicking, trying not to cry, explaining how i've trained 2 YEARS for this race... and i NEED TO DO IT, so he's putting a rush on all the tests haha i could've hugged the guy.

Prayers, good thoughts, fingers crossed for good news! Yay to rush on the tests!

One more thing on spectators..
The start is not a great place to see loved ones. I love seeing the people, but it is dark and I don't know who they are and runners are on the far side of the divided highway. If you want to watch from here, I would suggest getting a big bouquet of balloons or something neon/glow in the dark and know when your runner is coming.
The TTC is a great place and the MK. Easy to get to as well.

Can someone explain how the spectators get to anywhere besides the start and finish? Do the spectators walk along the same route that the runners use between Epcot and MK, or is there a different way for spectators to go?

They use the monorail

Thanks, we're going to park at Epcot and they'll go straight to the monorail to go to MK so this is perfect. When they come back they can watch me from where the busses drop off at Epcot and then at the finish line

They take the monorail from Epcot to the TTC to MK to watch from inside MK, you don't need a ticket to bee a spectator since it's before the park opens, then they hop on the monorail again to get back to Epcot.

Finished my longest walk yet yesterday, almost twelve miles! I came in under time but unless I can do an eight minute mile to finish off I might be over. Should I increse my walking speed or throw in a few runs to my walk? I'm feeling fine today so both options are under consideration.:confused3

Not sure what corral you will be in, but if you are in the last one, try to get to the front as the time starts once last person crosses start line. There isn't much to see in the first three mile so you could try some one minute runs every 5 minutes or so. You will pass the pirate ship and princes' but you can see then on the way back around mile 9ish. Once you hit Epcot you will be fine to finish...I understand they don't sweep once in the park. Some one correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Who needs Prince Charming anyway? We can write our own happily ever after.
Hear, hear! :thumbsup2 Thanks so much Jodi - I appreciate your kind words! :goodvibes

Awesome work! I agree with joan4mickey - maybe try throwing in a minute or so of a jog every 5 minutes for a bit and see how that feels.
