The One With The Back Story
This update wont be fun, and wont have many pictures, but I do feel its necessary for me to write it so you guys know what frame of mind I was in when the trip started, as well as how my health would affect the trip.
The weekend before Christmas, Ron got sick. Based on the symptoms he had I thought it was just a cold and that he was making it sound worse than it was based on him being a man. We all know men are big babies when they are sick. He got better in time for Christmas Eve. Tired, but otherwise okay. We visited my family at my brothers place that evening. We opened our presents the next morning,
Then around lunch time drove to his family where we were suppose to spend the afternoon and evening. Around the end of the afternoon I started feeling very tired, so we used the excuse of the baby to leave the party early. By 8pm I was feeling so run-down that I went to bed. 8pm. On Christmas Day. Even pregnant I never went to bed that early! The next few days followed the same pattern : I would feel relatively okay in the afternoon, but felt like crap at night. I tried to rest, but I visited a friend I had not seen in months, ran some last minute errands for the trip and went to Claudias 6 months check-up. That one I was happy to do because we have the same doctor and she checked both of us out and gave us the all clear to fly.
The other reason why I couldnt rest that much is because we had a GIGANTIC snowstorm that week. We received close to 18 inches of snow! Couple that with strong wind, and our street looked like that (not my car or my street, but you get the idea):
This is Otaku clearing out the snow on our back balcony. We took the picture from the window she had to climb out of since we couldnt open the screen door because the snow was too high. That railing behind her should be around the height of her ribcage!
While I was feeling okay all those afternoons, I had no appetite. Add that to the fact that this flu (it was not just a cold after all. Oops, sorry DH for doubting you!), ahem, made me go to the bathroom more often, and I became quite dehydrated. I waited too long to do anything about it, so by the weekend I was feeling very weak and nauseous. I was caught in that vicious circle of Im nauseous so I cant eat, and because Im not eating I get nauseous. I was feeling so bad that I considered canceling the trip! . I was also extremely worried that Claudia would get a high fever while on the plane and we wouldnt be able to get her to a doctor.
So there you have it. That was how I was feeling, both physically and emotionally, in the days leading to the trip. I was pretty useless in terms of last minute packing and preparation. Im sure that did not help some of the bad moments we had on the trip.
It felt so weird to not be excited about going to Disney. I even had no problem sleeping the night before we left! That is so NOT me. Speaking of, check out the next post to read about departure day.
