One of Walt Disney's famous phrases is "It was all started by a mouse." Well, for this story, it was all started with a txt. It came last February from DISer that's nice (Tim)
So I had this crazy idea. Im not sure if this is the right time for you though with the baby on the way. What if we had a marathon challenge and run in the January ½ marathon. Ive never run one before. Maybe this would be a way to get myself into shape.
Never one to back down from a challenge - even with our 3rd child due just a month and a half after that text message, and considering the most I'd ever run up to that point was a 5k about a year before - almost immediately said yes. Almost, because I'm not dumb enough to agree to something like that without getting permission from my better half, Bambi. (E3yore here on the DIS.) Her blessings securely in my pocket and the sound of her eyes rolling still ringing in my ears, I texted Tim back and the Nemesis Challenge was on.
I'll cover the first 10 1/2 months of this Challenge in the following paragraph:
I ran. A lot. Starting slowly, with a Couch to 5k program. But building distance and endurance as the months went on. It wasn't easy - on myself or my family. While I was out running, Bambi was left at home with three kids. But she always supported me and this crazy idea and here we are.
As for the "MY Side" in the title, Tim has his own version of the events from that weekend going on here.
But back to Team Barry. We were well represented in Central Florida that weekend.
Left to Right up there we have:
Ryder, age 10 months. He's the baby that Tim mentioned in the "txt heard round the world."
Carol (or Grandma) - Bambi's mom.
Dean (or Grandpa) - Bambi's dad. They live 45 minutes from Disney, so just about the only time the kids get to see their grandparents is during Disney vacations.
Madison, age 8. Our oldest, and one of my biggest chEARleaders.
Bambi. Wonderful, supportive spouse and the leader of Team Barry. (Sorry, CJ, I know you're the GM, but even the GM has to answer to a Team President, CEO and owner)
Evan, age 6. The middle child. If could bottle his energy I could do the Goofy Challenge running backwards. Blindfolded.
Me (Barry). I suppose the medal around my neck gives away the fact that I did indeed finish the race. But then again, so does the fact that I'm actually typing this. So we won't consider it a spoiler.
