Hmm, another question.

If we end up getting the Mickey Head, I'm assuming it won't fit in the fridge and with there being only 4 of us, we plan to have enough to eat all week! So do they give us a box to take it to the room with and is it in a box that will keep it well for at least a few days?

They put the cake back in the box in was delivered in by the bakery. I do not think it will last very long without refrigeration, though, due to the mousse filling. Even our all-buttercream anniversary cake was sad and mushy by Day 3. However, Bell Services could keep the cake in their fridge for you and deliver it when you want it. Not super-convenient, but... Alternatively, I'd bring Tupperware and divvy the cake up into smaller boxes that will fit in the minifridge.

I am thinking of doing the mini wedding cake and maybe get some chocolate covered strawberries too. I originally had reservations for Coral Reef but later DH made a comment about eating at Teppan Edo. He doesnt know about this trip. I changed to Teppan Edo and I see they dont do the mini cake at TE so I was thinking of the having it delivered to CBR the day we check in. My question is we will probably be checking in late since we leave after DH gets home from work at 7pm. How late would they deliver to our room?

You'd need to call the resort for a definitive answer, but 10pm seems to be the cut-off time most places. Could you have it delivered the next day?

Are the mini cakes (like the mini cakes in the pirate treasure chests) not offered any longer? My friend called to order them for our kiddos for our trip next week (at Whispering Canyon) and she was told those are no longer offered. We got one in late 2010 when our son was 3 and he LOVED it!

Are the mini cakes (like the mini cakes in the pirate treasure chests) not offered any longer? My friend called to order them for our kiddos for our trip next week (at Whispering Canyon) and she was told those are no longer offered. We got one in late 2010 when our son was 3 and he LOVED it!

The treasure chest cakes are no longer offered. I'm not sure when they were discontinued, but I looked into getting one last August and they didn't have them then. We also got one in 2010 and DD loved it. She had gotten the pink one and wanted to get the brown one too, but we were too late.

When I ordered my sister her surprise birthday cake at GFC this past August, I told her to go look at the menu on the wall while I checked in and I mentioned it to the hostess then.

Also what is the average price of a two tired mini cake?

The castle mini cake is $30 and available in chocolate with chocolate mousse filling, vanilla with white chocolate mousse filling, or cheesecake. Two-tier mini cakes run $35-$55 depending on the bakery and how elaborate the decorations are.

I hadn't even thought of that. Good question. I know it was not discussed in my conversation with Chef Brian. I wonder if each bakery has their own method of doing a 6" cake and they are all that way by default. Some chefs may like 4 layers, other 3, etc.

That's what I figured. I guess I'll just ask or mention it when I call/email. Thanks!

Has anyone had any experience getting cakes from somewhere else delivered to the AKL or one of their restaurants? I see it says under AKL, it MIGHT be possible and I was wondering if anyone has tried it yet with good results?

I'm going to call eventually and hope for the best. I found such cute ideas when doing a search of mickey/Minnie cakes and would rather surprise them with a "fancy" cake rather then the mickey head, which is still adorable. I'm hoping the Contemporary and Chef Brian will give the ok to have the cake picked up by AKL, but I see GF is a bit closer. Or actually, now that I think about it. I could just order the cake from the Boardwalk Bakery, and have it delivered to the POR, where we will be staying and just have the cake there.

I finally ordered DH's over the hill cake. Hope it comes out as awesome as I'm visualizing as its certainly expensive enough.

I called CBR and they said they would deliver at 10pm but not too late after. Yay. I was worried we would end up carrying a cake through the park. Of course I will just call back sooner to our trip date in May to get the order made. Can't wait. Now til then I will be debating on what design I want to do.

I could just order the cake from the Boardwalk Bakery, and have it delivered to the POR, where we will be staying and just have the cake there.

That's probably the easiest option, but you would not call BoardWalk Bakery to order it—you need to use the number listed for POR. Even though BWB delivers all over property, they don't take orders for these directly from guests.

They deliver it when you tell them to. If you come back late, it will be sitting out. If it's fondant, there won't be an issue, unless the AC in your room fails. Buttercream gets a little melty...

At Disney weddings, the catering team usually removes the fondant to expose the buttercream underneath. I'm too lazy to take it off the cakes I get and just kinda scrape the cake and frosting outta the fondant ... or eat it!

That's what I'm worried about, I thought you'd pick it up in the food court, but if it's just in your room, i'm not sure i'd want to chance it. Trying one of the other resorts is looking better lol.

I have gone through this thread, part 1,2 and 3 over the years and it has given me some fabulous ideas for cakes. I wanted to post a picture of my daughter's mini wedding cake that we ordered for her birthday. We went to Cinderella's Royal Table, I asked for "Pink and Girly". I wish I had a better picture to post because this cake really was beautiful.

Yes, once you get to a real live person on the phone, you can ask for an email address that you can send photos to.
