Have you ever had any bad experiences pin trading?

I haven't, but I have only traded with a cast member. My GF has done a few trades with people at EPCOT and they just wanted a couple of new pins bought.

I've never had a bad experience trading with a CM.

Trading with non-CMs is a different story...for them it's a business and they're out to make the best (i.e., economically) deal for themselves. So, with them, yes, you can easily have a bad experience.

I had all good experiences with CMs except 1 guy. He was at the Space Mt photo cashier. DD5 asked to trade, she chose her pin and offered one and he refused it and called it a scrapper! It was not bought in a Park, but I got it at the Disney store, has Disney on the back, great color. Nope, he completely refused and told DD5 that it was a fake. Huh??

The CM turned you down? I've NEVER seen a CM turn anyone down, they just do the trade and then pocket the pin if they think it's a scrapper. That said, 99.9999% of scrappers also say Disney on the back. Not that I'm doubting your pin was real, just letting you know. :)

Crazy! Why would the CM care that it was fake? :confused3 He's just going to have it traded by the end of the day anyway.

All of the other CMs did not even look. I was more upset that he was kind of on the edge of rude to DD5...
I totally understand scrappers. I really want to get DD5 some pins off Ebay for her birthday (she LOVED trading and collecting). I don't really care if they are scrappers or not, we get them for the pin, not the value, the value to us is what the pin is of =)
Though I AM doing my research for the good ebay sellers anyway, so we don't trade junk when we go again!

I've been burned by scrappers. I do the best I can to avoid them at all costs. But, most of the time what I end up with from the parks are scrappers... why? Because CM's HAVE to trade with you. That is the rule. Some scrappers look better than the real pins. And, as anyone will say, "NO ONE CAN VERIFY THE AUTHENTICITY OF A PIN UNLESS IT WAS BOUGHT AT DISNEY". That cast member was out of line, mose so since they were dealing with a 5 year old. I've seen CMs remove pins from boards and lanyards that they suspect are fake to replace with fresh stock, but I've never seen them turn away anything other than a sedesma pin, which was right around the time of the rule change regarding those. I am sorry you experienced that.
