Family of 5 plus grandma...where should we eat when we get on Disney Dream? Three day cruise, what are our options?

On the Magic/Wonder I would say the sit down dining room, Parrot Cay. But, on the Dream/Fantasy we prefer Cabanas up on the pool deck. Much more variety and great views.

We loved Enchanted Garden. I like being seated and having beverages served. It was also much more calm and quiet as most of the kids seemed to head for the pool deck. The food is the same, only the atmosphere is different. That's not totally accurate though because you have the fast food outlets on the pool deck as well as the Cabanas food.

We've gone to Parrot Cay on two cruises. But on this last cruise, we were on the Fantasy and we headed up to the pool deck and sat in loungers until the rooms were ready. I think I prefer doing it this way and grabbing food from Flo's.

We found that the food in EG was not anything that DD would eat, and she isn't the picky one. DH said it had more vegies in most of the dishes that she didn't like. We ended up leaving and going to Cabana's. On the classics we always go to PC.

I am an avid avoider of crowds and stress. We just went straight to the pool walk up food counters, ordered hot dogs and burgers, and walked away from the buffet. We ate on the deck by the goofy pool, and there were maybe 2 other families by us, very relaxing!

We enjoy going to the Buffet on top deck and eating outside taking in the view.

Too....many.....choices..... :joker:

I ate at the served meal the first cruise I took. I think the logic of sitting outside when it's a little bit quieter makes sense. There are plenty of times to have a served meal in a room full of people during the rest of the cruise, but not so many times when the deck isn't crowded. Unless you get up to watch the sunrise :)

Tell me more about the ice cream. :)

My DD said it was the best ice cream she's ever had. All the desserts, including the ice cream, were in a cabinet. You indicated to a CM what you wanted (no more hands in places making a mess!) You indicated the ice cream flavor you wanted and were given a dish of a couple of scoops. You ate it and then discussed whether it would be totally sinful to go get another dish. I have no idea what brand it was, but this was seriously amazingly good ice cream....and lots of flavor choices.

We just like the ability to sit down, have brewed ice tea (not the instant stuff), and have beverage refills served after the hustle of getting to the terminal and getting checked in. As an added benefit--we didn't know which servers were on the Fantasy, but did know that our top favorites were not there. We had a good server for lunch on the first day and went to dining changes to see if we could keep him for the cruise.....the discussion at our table was the he was "pretty good" and that we could do a lot worse. I know that sounds horrible, but to us, a good serving team can make or break a cruise.

We enjoy going to the Buffet on top deck and eating outside taking in the view.

Having eaten in the restaurants the 1st couple of times we've sailed, going topside for the Buffet & the relaxing View just can't be beat.
