Speaking of upgrades and pixie dust

It has me thinking. I know lots of people get room upgrades but have you ever had your hotel upgraded? Like a value to a mod or a mod to a deluxe?

We have a friend that was in Orlando to receive an award and he took his family and they went to Disney after. They had multiple problems with their room and the door key not working. In the end the resort upgraded them to the Contemporary club level and they also had a gift basket waiting in the room with stuffed animals for the kids and snacks. I can't remember which hotel it was but I do know it wasn't a deluxe that they were originally at.

I love hearing stories of pixie dust and hearing how happy people are, it makes me smile :goodvibes

Wow! Must be nice!! I sure hope we get some pixie dust sprinkled on us--we are staying at a moderate, but our dream would be to be on the monorail!

Went to in July 2010 and was going to stay at BLT but they had problem with power outages in building and we were upgraded to GF Club level. They even took us by limo from BLT to GF. It was nice but there is no way that I would pay for Club Level. Free drinks and snacks are fine but there was no way that we could eat or drink the price difference.

A couple of year ago there were a whole bunch of people who got upgraded from POP to the Contemporary, Wilderness lodge and a whole bunch of Mods. It was because the grossly overbooked POP I think.

I would not be unhappy if we arrived at POP on Friday and were asked to move to the Contemporary! I think my hubby might actually start chanting "Monorail! Monorail! Monorail!

That said, our discounted standard double bed room at Pop will be just fine!!

Same thing happened in 2012 with the Little mermaid Rooms at AoA. They were overbooked and people were notified in advance and given the option of upgrading to a resort of choice. Some were able to choose the Poly.

Wow. Disney must have really screwed up.

In 08, we arrived at CSR and at check in, the CM asked if we would rather stay at the Beach Club. ummm, yes please! i wish i could afford to stay there again!
Apparently, the Osmonds came in at the last minute.

The only time we were upgraded was for a one day stay at AKL.

We were starting our trip on a Saturday at the Poly for a free dining stay but our flight arrived on Friday. We couldn't change the day for the Poly since the free dining started on Saturday so we decided try AKL for one day.

They called us a couple of months before our trip and said that because of construction noise at AKL they would move us to any resort we wanted for no extra charge. We moved to the GF and wished that we were staying longer at AKL.

I realize that the Osmonds are a large family, but did they really need the entire Coronado Springs? That's funny!

Last month when we checked into POR, the people next to us at checkin were upgraded to the Poly. I believe the Royal Rooms were overbooked.

Our best resort upgrade was during free dining in 2009. We went from a standard room at All-Star Music to a one bedroom villa at Saratoga Springs.

I've never been upgraded, but I was asked to downgrade :scared1:

We were checking into POR and they were overbooked - they asked if we would mind moving to one of the All Stars - um, yes we would thank you...

We did not move, but the next family checking in had no choice.

Whoa! Whoa! That is a hideous story! If they asked me to downgrade I'd have been like ummm absolutely not and if there isn't enough room here (which is obviously not my fault!) then I guess you can UPGRADE me. Gosh, I am mad just reading that and I am pretty easygoing.

It sucks that they can force you to downgrade. I'd would be so fricken mad.

And now I'm worried. I check into POR on Saturday!!!! Lol

It was a long time ago, I really wouldn't worry about it. AND honestly, that wasn't the worst of what happened there. Fortunately, I have not read anything like what we experienced since then, so I would like to think it was an isolated incident.

Resort upgrades are done for the benefit of the resort and one has absolutely no control over whether they get one or not. There is no way of knowing when or where it will happen.

If you check the fine print on your reservation, all Disney owes you is a room on property. So downgrades could be as possible as upgrades.

Many CM's report the one way NOT to get an upgrade is to ask for one. It is better to allow the CM the opportunity to do so, without expectations by the customer.

There is no problem is asking how much an upgrade would cost. However, if you choose to do so, realize that you are basically doing a new reservation and you would lose any discounts currently on your reservation.

If you look at the amount of people who check-in to the Disney resorts each year, compared to the few amount of people who posted they received an upgrade, it probably averages about 1 percent.
