Official Castaway Cay 5K Thread

I ran it last April. We did get a bib and a medal, plastic mickey head, with certificate in our stateroom that night. It's not officially timed but there is a clock. The race we did in the pouring rain but it was still warm that morning. I may attempt it in again 2 weeks on my next cruise:)

DH and I ran the CC 5k on January 15 during our DREAM cruise. There was over 75 ppl! Not surprising since our cruise directly followed the 20th ann Marathon at WDW. Many walkers/joggers/runners of all ages and fitness levels. It's a "fun run" and there is no pressure to finish quickly. We met in Evolution at 8:15 am. Ages 12 + could participate. No need to sign up before-hand. It's not an "excursion" and it's offered during every sailing. :thumbsup2

No medal and no running bib. I was disappointed but not surprised. I keep reading that it's very hit or miss with all of the race details and such :worried:
They did, however, hand out "race certificates" at the finish line...
I also purchased a T-shirt at the store next to the finish/start line. I believe it was 29.95. I've read about shortages of sizes but I did not experience that. Sizes available from S to XXL.

Does anyone know if there is somewhere my kids can go when I run? Are the kids club either on the ship or on the island open?

I did it a couple weeks ago and as we walked to the starting point we made a pit stop at the kids area in case people needed to drop kids off. I would make a point to tell the cast members while you are checking in that that is something you'd like to do though just so they know.

I'm so excited. We leave on the Magic today! I've been watching the web cam but I don't see the Magic in yet. Anyone know when she'll be in port?

Are you sure she's not there? I have the webcam open too (something fun to watch at work LOL) and I think she's behind that big white ship. Really, who let that thing in there?! :rotfl::rotfl2:

Enjoy your cruise! Looks like you have a beautiful day to sail away. I'm sooo jealous but then we only have...sigh...294 days to go....<sob>

Honestly, get that big thing out of my way when I'm trying to see the Magic! You're working on a Sat? You need a cruise!

I'm at the Hotel Galvez and have been trying to catch a glimpse of the Magic, too. We leave for the port in an hour and a half!!!!

LOL...That's exactly why I'm working on Saturday (overtime)...I told my husband I"m working for the wine package today :lmao:

And yes, I am just on a break at the moment. Waiting for my coffee to finish then back at it :coffee:

Is there a MOD around who might like to link all of the threads about the 5K together? I've never seen so many threads on the first page of the DIS all about the same thing!!!!

My DS 14 ran it this past April when we were on the Magic April 13th cruise. He also got a Plastic Mickey Head for a medal to hang around his neck and a running bib. They also delivered the certificate to the stateroom later that night too. He enjoyed it. We are headed back this April on the Fantasy Western and he is thinking about doing it again.

This is our first cruise and I have seen in other posts that there is a 5k on CC. I don't run, but my 10 year old DD does. She just completed her first 5k in 32m 36s (so proud of her). I told her about the 5k on CC and she wants to participate.
Would she be able to run on her own? I'm trying to talk DH into running with her, but I'm not sure he could keep up .......LOL

We were on the NYE cruise on the Dream and my husband and son ran the race and they also did not get medals - they were a tad disappointed

When I ran it a couple years ago, it was more of a "group run" than a race. I was glad I did it, but it wasn't something that I would rush to do again unless someone I was with wanted to try it.

We sailed into port at about 5:30 this morning. The Crown Princess was ahead of us coming in. We did the express debarkation at about 7:44 and were home before 8:30. Then hubby was off to work again.... **sigh**

I am SO not a runner--but my husband is an avid runner and is all about this! I'm reading your responses to him and he's asking me a 1000 questions!:rotfl:

SO, hopefully, you guys can answer his questions...

Does he need to sign up for this in advance--or just show up? 9:00am, right?

Is there a fee to run it?

What kind of terrain are you running on?

Thanks so much--I think this may be the thing he is most excited about! :confused3
