Who Invited My Mother In Law? A Moderately Deluxe TR All New X 3 & PTR Link 2/3 !!

I was very behind!! I can't believe the RoI!! I am glad that Maddie's faith was restored fairly quickly!! Even though you only got two rides in, all of those character meets would make up for it...to me anyhow! I have heard so-so reviews on Tony's and it hasn't been on my 'must go there list" although "Lady and the Tramp" is one of my favorite movies. Sorry you were feeling so poorly! Hopefully the rest was enough to help you through the last night!

And Maddie's Christmas looked like Madison's! I always find so much and before I know it I have bought more than I intended! Awesome job on those quilts!!

oh my gosh, I can not even tell you how far behind I was. Like insanely, unforgiveably far behind. So I had to just catch up using your chapter links. So I missed all the fun banter in between updates.

I can't even think of all the comments I was going to say, especially since it's 5am and I've been up all night. I'll just say a few:

How the heck do you keep all those princess dresses so nice and in such great condition? I have to say that you have "fancier" dresses than we have, but they are definitely falling apart. Especially our Rapunzel and Belle ones. It makes me want to pack a pretty outfit or two for whenever we go back.

I totally forgot that we missed each other by a week or so last year. It was definitely hotter than I thought it was going to be and I remember being shocked at the character lines, too. Definitely interefered with our character meet and greet plans.

Sorry you were feeling so terrible! I can't imagine being sick at Disney...nice that hubby stepped in and helped out. Tony's is usually one of our lunch stops while at MK. And I agree, it's not outstanding...but pretty good for a lunch stop. We'll be there Saturday:thumbsup2 One thing they serve that is really good is the creme brule!!! Next time you're at MK, you can do Be Our Guest!!

Okay, first off, could have SWORN that was Maddie on the facebook page! Haha!!

And YAAAYAYAYAYA for a new ticker!! How exciting!! ACK! I can't wait to read the next TR and hear all about your next set of adventures!

so glad to hear Bryan took charge.. a good hubby knows what you need. you wouldn't have enjoyed ANY of the rest of the day without a nap.

we have also softimes debated this issue.. say, we ahve an unexpected late night.. we try, like heck, to "make it through" our "planned" day.. then think, hey, let's just skip this and tha, go aback and nap, and be rested and enjoy the evening! (like the time we took our "doggy bags" back from Les Chefs de France to our room at BCV, and took a nap. not planned at all! smart move!)

however, I really DID want some info on Tony's!!!! (just teasing you).. but we have had reservations there SO many tmes and cancelled. the closest we came was the fall trip where my daddy passed away.. and weren't in the mood.

I thought I would get the shrimp scampi ,and nebo thought he would get the chicken parm.. but the baked ziti was a maybe for both of us.

well, gee! what kind of help are you!!!??? :lmao: how dare you get sick during your trip??? ;)

:rotfl::rotfl: Sorry about that! Believe me I wish that I could give a better report! I think that we'll try Tony's again some day, but there are other places that we want to try first.

I feel like I plan rest times, but no one wants to take advantage of them, and then we need rest at times I really didn't expect it. Just goes to show you can't plan for everything!

Give Tony's a try sometime- the bread was really yummy!

That sucks that you guys didn't enjoy Tony's too much, but I have to admit, neither did I, it was probably the most disappointing meal of my trips....just not good enough on any parts haha.

Good cover on the meatball! Bahah, too cute!

I'm glad you were feeling better after a little lie down. I can't believe the trip's almost coming to a close! I hope there's a surprise of a return trip coming up sooon! heehee

Tony's really didn't wow us, but we didn't hate it. I'm not opposed to going back some day, but there are a lot of places we'll try out first.

I was so determined to enjoy the last night. It was a relief to feel a little better.

Well, you've seen the ticker!

I think I'll start a PTR once I finish this TR-only 2 updates to go!

Sorry to hear you really weren't feeling well and that lunch was ok.

I am glad that Brian took charge and made y'all go back to the resort so that you could rest. I should have done that towards the end of our trip.

Glad to hear you were feeling better when you woke up! :goodvibes

I'm glad that he made me rest too. I would have felt so bad if I missed our last night at MK.

That wasn't the last of the cold from heck, but the worst didn't come until the next day (and the day after that. :faint:)

I'm sorry you weren't feeling well on your last day! I had a similar dining experience at 'Ohana last year. I had gotten up at the crack of dawn 180 days beforehand to secure our reservation and I was absolutely determined to enjoy the food and atmosphere, but I was SO SICK. I was coming down with a bad cold that would end up lasting a couple weeks, and it was that first day where you just feel like the world is crashing down on your head. I still enjoyed the meal, but not to the extent that I had hoped, as I was somewhat delirious during parts of it!

Glad that M & B enjoyed their pool time and let you get in a nap!

That's exactly how I felt! Obviously the Tony's ressie isn't as hard to secure as the Ohana one, but after all of the planning and plotting I really wanted to enjoy it! I thought we'd like Tony's-and we might have. We'll have to try it again.

They did, and Bryan was right (did you read that honey? I put it on the internet where anyone can read it!). I really did need that rest.

We've not eaten at Tony's yet, but it's on my to do list for the future. I'm enjoying the decor and think it would be a nice quaint meal.
Too bad you weren't feeling well, being sick hampers even the best meals.

DH got the gold star for taking care of you! If 3 hours of sleep and you felt better is what you needed to enjoy the rest of the night, it was worth it.

I'm not ready to hear its over though.

I'm glad that we tried Tony's and we'll probably go back on a future trip. I liked the decor. It was homey and comfortable, and all of the Lady and the Tramp stuff was really cute.

I really needed that rest. I'm glad that he forced me to take a nap.

Thanks for the review of Tony's. I'm sorry that you weren't feeling very well, but I've never been there, partly because the place seems to be put down by most people. I love Italian food. I mean really, I don't care if it is fine dining Italian, or cheap sauce in a can Italian, it's all good... some great. I've just never been able to convince myself to try Tony's though with some other good options on property. I definitely want to eat there sometime though.

It is tragic that they messed up and put a meatball on Maddie's plain noodles. That was a nice save though with the Tramp story! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

It is definitely a shame that you missed out on a few hours on your last afternoon, but it was obviously much needed. You were better off sleeping for a few hours than being miserable in the parks and risking an epic meltdown.

Give Tony's a try one of these days! I didn't think it was bad at all. I wish that I could give a more thorough review, but I will say that we'll go back. The food wasn't gourmet Italian, but I'm like you- I'm not picky about pasta. :goodvibes The place is really cute too.

In retrospect I am really glad that we rested, because we did it I got to enjoy our last night a whole lot more!!

Well, that stinks. Being sick at Disney World should be against the law.

I agree! I'll be sick any of the other 51 weeks of the year! Not fair.

Nice save! Impressively quick-thinking there. :thumbsup2

I appreciate you guys saying that, but full disclosure: we really did think that's why it was on there. :lmao: Maybe we're just being optimistic?

Sounds like he knew what he was doing.

I'm sure as a husband you'll appreciate this:

Bryan was right. I needed to rest.

Might be the only time he'll ever see that in black and white. :rotfl:.

I'd agree with that. Via Napoli is fantastic, but I've never understood the hate for Tony's. I was perfectly happy there. Then again, I don't think I've ever had a bad meal at Disney.

I agree. Via Napoli is a much different experience, and I enjoyed both. I had read all those bad reviews myself, and I'm glad we tried it.

I'm with you. There are some meals that weren't outstanding, but I've never eaten anywhere on property and left thinking "I'll never go there again".

I'm sorry that you weren't feeling well on your last day. It was good of your husband to take charge and let you get some rest. We ate at Tony's in 2010 and while we liked it, it didn't wow us either.

Thanks. We felt the same way. It was good, but not great. There are a few places that we'd like to try out before going back.

Sick or not, your review of Tony's was great. Thank you. It's a place we've never been yet, but it gets such bad reports usually... we'll have to see. I am glad yours was good :)

I appreciate you saying that. I really felt like I dropped the ball on that one.:rotfl: We liked our lunch at Tony's and I really don't understand why everyone says it's so bad. Maybe people go in expecting something different than what it is?

Glad DH took control and you got a rest in... see - it worked! We won't tell him he was right. Can't wait to see how the night goes.

HAHAHA! I like your style.

I am sorry you felt so poorly, we have had a few really great experiences at Tony's!

I hope that the rest of the night you were feeling better!

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that someone else has enjoyed their meal at Tony's. On a hot summer day I can see it being a very welcome respite from the heat, and the decor was really cute. We'll be back again someday!

Glad she's loving the American Girl doll! I can't wait to see the pictures from American Girl place!

Sadly, I must report that while Ariel's new grotto is amazingly done and well themed, there was no Prince Eric to be found:(

We almost ate at Tony's while we were there and I'm kinda glad we didn't now!

Getting sick on vacation, especially Disney is terrible but at least Maddie and your husband allowed/encouraged the rest! Hope you got better quickly!

She adores that doll, and it goes everywhere with us! I will share the pictures for sure-but it may be on my PTR! ;)

I am so sad to hear that Eric is gone, but I think Maddie will be thrilled to see Ariel with her fins. I'm still grieving over the Belle M&Gs being gone too. Guess we'll spend more time visiting her at Epcot!

Where did you go instead? Are you doing a TR? I should check your signature.

Thanks!

Luvin the update. Tony's looks cool inside I've never been. I love the not impressed look on Maddies face at the meatball on her noodles :goodvibes

Thanks! Tony's was really cute inside, and I'm glad that we tried it.

I love that picture! I was wondering if anyone would catch the WTH is this look on her face.

FYI. Around here, the correct spelling for that is DISclaimer.

LOL. You got me there. What a DISmal DISplay on my part.

Okay, we'll forgive you... this time.

That's what I love about you Ponzi-you're all heart.

Who isn't? I really don't know too many people who don't like Italian food.

Do you think that there's someone in Italy right now thinking, "I really don't know too many people who don't like American food"?

:rotfl: I agree. I don't think I'd trust someone who didn't like Italian food.
Somehow I doubt the Italians rave about our burgers and nuggets though.

Ugh.

"Excuse me, but I paid a lot of money to come to Disney and get away from people like you. Would you mind going away? Thanks a bunch."

Exactly! They were terrible! Actually they were so awful that they were almost entertaining. In a train wreck kind of way.

ummm.... Shan? Uh, don't know how to break this to you, but... umm... you know where you say you may have lost your mind?...

Don't give away my secrets! Some of these people may still consider me sane!

"altered state"? Ah, so you've already accepted it. Good for you. Acceptance is the first step.

:rotfl:

:lmao: Awesome pic! And great save with the "nose it as Tramp had done" line. Did she try and nose it?

She did not. She calmly asked her father to remove the meatball. ;) Honestly? we really thought that's why it was there! :rotfl:

I did a thread several years ago asking what people thought was the worst restaurant in WDW. Tony's was pretty high on the list. It came in an unofficial 2nd place I believe.

Really? What was the first? We really didn't dislike it. Maybe we got lucky, but it was a nice lunch.

You know you're sick when...

::yes::

Poor Shan... :sad2:

Yay for feeling better! Hope it lasted the night.
Thanks for the chapter Shanopedia. :goodvibes

Thanks Ponzerella!

Aw thank you! I'm doing a pretty good job of indoctrinating my little princesses ;) I think they'll be sufficiently obsessed in another year or two haha

It's so funny you said that, I tell my DH that I'll agree to pay for their weddings in full as long as they're Disney weddings. lol!

so sorry you got sick at the end of your trip though! That's always the worst :(

That's awesome! I'm pretty sure my DH would have a heart attack if I said that. He's coming around though-he can see how much she loves it.

Thanks. I'm glad that it was the last day though, cause this one was a doozey!

So sorry you weren't feeling good. :( My family went to Tony's on our first trip and we all really enjoyed it! If you ever go back I suggest a flatbread for lunch. :) YUM!

We liked Tony's too. I will try to remember to get the flatbread next time we visit. Thanks for the tip!

Sorry to hear that you weren't feeling well!!! Hopefully you were feeling better after a rest at the resort!

Thanks. I'm just glad that it was the last day.

Phew, only two updates to catch up on. First let me say that I will be borrowing your idea of starting each chapter with "The one with...". I just don't have enough (any) catchy titles for this trip. I sucked at note taking.

Steal away! It's so easy to use...

I think you had some things to take care of-we'll forgive your note taking.

Being sick on vacation sucks, but being sick on your very last day is even worse. I would have been like you, trying to push myself to stay in the parks. I'm glad taking a nap helped you feel better so you could at least enjoy the evening.

It was the pits. I'm relieved that it didn't happen until the last day though, because it turned out to be one of the worst colds I've ever had.

I'm in love with these Animators' Dolls. I really really really wanted to buy one for Claudia this trip, but Ron preferred to wait until she was old enough to have a favorite princess/choose one herself. I'm a bit upset I let him convince me. I just hope they still have this collection in a few years! Maddie is so lucky to have gotten not one, but two of those dolls! She got the one I would have bought, Mulan.

Aren't they the cutest! Mulan stuff is so hard to find, I got one for Maddie and one for my niece. I see nothing wrong with the Mulan doll waiting on a shelf for a few years for Claudia to grow into it--I'll let you know next time they go on sale. ;)

I'm joining in super late...

What a great trip report! Your daughter is adorable, and your video of the surprise at the beginning was an absolute hoot! I loved it!

I hope the afternoon at the pool was fun for Maddie and relaxing for you...

Thanks for joining in!! Thank you so much! Yours is my favorite post of the day!

Thanks for the kind words, don't be a stranger!

Sorry you were feeling so poorly on your last day.

We've not done Tony's in several years now; we do prefer lunch over dinner, but the food is just "meh." But we do love the atmosphere...it is wonderful.

I love what you told Maddie about her meatball...that is a mom on top of it!

Glad you had a nap and were feeling better to go back out. Can't wait to hear what you did.

Thanks Kathy.

I think that Tony's would definitely be a lunch spot for us over dinner. We weren't wowed by the food, but the decor was great. We loved all of the Lady and the Tramp stuff.

Love that you have a new ticker!! Does that mean a PTR?? I know it means another TR YAY!!! Love your TRs!!

I think that it does! Does this mean I'll have people to join me for one?? :goodvibes Honestly I'd like to do a PTR. I love sharing my plans, and I'll drive Bryan CRAZY if he's the only one I have to talk to about this.

And thank you! You rock.

Finally caught up!! Missed your TR and seeing that little cutie!

Thanks for taking the time to stop back by Jacquie! I'm so glad to have you back. And thanks.

The RoI was so sad! Thank goodness for those characters. It was a great morning for us-we did exactly what Maddie wanted to do.

So are you telling me that I'm not going to want to stop spoiling Maddie when she gets older? We're in trouble!

oh my gosh, I can not even tell you how far behind I was. Like insanely, unforgiveably far behind. So I had to just catch up using your chapter links. So I missed all the fun banter in between updates.

I can't even think of all the comments I was going to say, especially since it's 5am and I've been up all night. I'll just say a few:

Hi Ann! How have you been?

We have plenty of ruined dress up clothes too. As Maddie has gotten older, she is a lot less rough and tumble and a lot more careful with her 'fancy' dresses. She usually wears the ones that I make if she's doing an art project or something. :rotfl: In fact, I don't think that she'd worn that wedding dress before the trip. She was saving it for something special.

Those character lines were something else! I was not prepared for that at all.

Thanks Heather.

We had a nice lunch there and wouldn't hesitate to go back. It's too bad that it gets so many bad reviews because it's a really cute place! I was going to get the creme brulee! You know I'm a fan myself, but I just couldn't eat anything else. Next time for sure.

I think they have creme brulee at BoG too! Are you guys going to eat there this weekend?

Hey Shannon- Is there is picture of Maddie meeting Mulan on the Disney facebook page? I just opened up facebook and the official Walt Disney World facebook page has a photo of a little girl with Mulan, and I swear it is Maddie!

The little girl is wearing a custom made pink Mulan dress and holding a parasol. If it is not Maddie than your daughter has a Disney princess loving twin out there in cyberspace!

I was thinking the same thing...it looks like Maddie.

We thought the same thing!! Even DS said, "look there's Princess Maddie!"

Have loved reading your trip report!

Is that Maddie on the WDW facebook page today? If so...how cool is that! She looks lovely...love the outfir!

Oh wow,I had to go and look and..if that isn't Maddie, then she has a Disney lovin' twin somewhere out there! How awesome!

Holy cow! That looks just like her...has to be Maddie!

I had to go look- it DOES look like her!!!

I see you have a new Ticker! Yay for a future trip!!! pixiedust:

Okay, first off, could have SWORN that was Maddie on the facebook page! Haha!!

And YAAAYAYAYAYA for a new ticker!! How exciting!! ACK! I can't wait to read the next TR and hear all about your next set of adventures!

Isn't that crazy you guys! It really looked a lot like Maddie. If she had that dress I might not have been able to swear it wasn't! I wish that it had been her, she'd have been over the moon if it was.

And, I'm gonna get sappy here, I love that I belong to a close knit community like this one and that I'm not the only one who would recognize a photo of someone else's kids. You guys rock, and make the DIS what it is for me. :goodvibes

Thanks!

Ah just noticed the new ticker and the reference to the PTR totally makes sense! :rotfl: How exciting! I can't wait to read the PTR!

Ariel in her fins is pretty awesome and her grotto is very well done! Even Dbf couldn't stop talking about how Ariel has the coolest M&G spot. Not meeting Belle in her yellow dress in MK was hard to accept. However, Belle in her blue dress is pretty good too!:thumbsup2 So many people were walking past the line asking who it was though? :confused3 I heard a lot of "Oh that must be Alice".

I'm pretty sure that's when we at at Liberty Tree Tavern and loved it! I just started my TR a few days ago!:cool1:

After this there's only one update and an epilogue/wrap up left for this TR. As some of you have noticed, I do have a new ticker (!!!!!!) and I think that I will do a PTR for the trip. I hope that you'll all join me when I start it! I will be sure to post a link here for anyone who'd like to.

Once I woke up and we determined that our night would go ahead as planned, we got Maddie dressed in the evening's princess garb and headed out. Even after my nap I wasn't completely rested, so we popped into OPR to fill our mugs. Caffeine in hand we made our way to the OPR bus stop for the last time.

Some scenery

We waited about 20 minutes before we were able to catch a bus Magic Kingdom bound.

To pass the time we did what anyone would-had a photo shoot!

IMG_5900.jpg

And on the way out I finally got the picture of the CBR sign. Pretty sure I intended to use this as part of the Day 1 updates...

IMG_5917.jpg

We hopped off the bus at MK and made our way on foot to the Contemporary Resort.

We checked in a few minutes before our ADR time, but were seated almost immediately. Our table was in the room behind the buffet-a nice location!

IMG_5931.jpg

IMG_5948.jpg

We'd barely taken our seats before the characters were upon us.

In short order we were visited by Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Mickey, and finally Donald. Maddie noticed right away that Donald wasnt wearing his chefs hat. When she inquired he explained that hed misplaced it. Maddie asked if Minnie was helping him look for it, and Donald assured her that she was.

IMG_6019.jpg

Once we'd visited with all of our friends it was time to eat. On that evening the cold bar included shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, garden salad, and pasta salads. There were two different soups (one was sweet corn and chicken chowder), and several varieties of bread. The hot offerings were ham, pastas, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, and roast beef.

I filled my first plate with salad and got a cup of the chowder along with it. I thought that the soup was really tasty, but again I was working with a very limited palate. The salads were fine-not soggy or wilted. For my second plate I just grabbed a baked potato. I wasnt really feeling dinner anymore-bland sounded good.

Maddie barely touched her food, but she sampled a bite or two of some Mickeyroni and Cheese, fruit, mashed potatoes, dinner rolls, and chicken strips.

I guess this is the only food picture I took?

IMG_6009.jpg

Bryan enjoys the food at Chef Mickey so he loaded up on ham, roast beef, potatoes, rolls, and some Mickeyroni and pizza from the kids area. If you recall, he considered it his job to accurately report on the quality of pizza at every buffet we visited. He found this particular pizza to be pretty good.

At some point while we were eating, the characters made their way back into our area of the dining room. A few stopped to say hello again, but most remembered that they'd visited with us already and moved pretty quickly. Donald however made it a point to stop back by and show Maddie that he'd found his hat. She said that it was really nice of Minnie to find it for him, and he got upset in the way that only Donald Duck can explaining to us that he'd found it all by himself. Maddie giggled for quite a while after that.

Only DD had saved room for dessert that evening. She took it upon herself to compare the Oreo Bonbons offered at Chef Mickey to those offered at Cape May. The verdict? Cape May by a landslide (what on earth were they thinking taking those away? I think I may have to stage a protest).

IMG_6019.jpg

And then she played Top Model while we waited to pay

IMG_6043.jpg

Chef Mickey may not offer the most inventive or fancy food, but we've yet to have anything but a great time there. Maddie really loves the outfits that the characters are wearing, and there's just something so quintessentially Disney about eating dinner with Mickey and the Gang while watching the monorail speed by. We love Chef Mickeys and we'll certainly be back, in fact it's our traditional last meal.

We settled the bill pretty quickly and left the restaurant. On our way out we browsed the gift shops and picked up another package of tissues for me.

IMG_6051.jpg

After some time spent mulling over the stuffed animal options, we left the CR and walked back to the Magic Kingdom for the last few hours of our vacation.

Too funny about Donald's hat!!! He does look a little funny without it there!

I agree about the Oreo Bon Bons being a very sad loss from CMC....best part of the meal in my opinion!!!

I'm glad you have a new ticker, but jealous... I'll definitely have to follow along.:thumbsup2

If you recall, he considered it his job to accurately report on the quality of pizza at every buffet we visited. He found this particular pizza to be pretty good.
I kind of did the same thing. I had to try a little bit of everything (and a lot of some things). I was so miserable after that meal... :faint:

Donald however made it a point to stop back by and show Maddie that hed found his hat. She said that it was really nice of Minnie to find it for him, and he got upset in the way that only Donald Duck can explaining to us that hed found it all by himself. Maddie giggled for quite a while after that.
That is a neat story! I'm glad that Donald remembered to stop back by!

Great assessment, I agree 100%. Except it seems to be more of a first meal thing than a last meal thing for us so far. :lmao:

All caught up!

I'm sorry you weren't feeling well your last day, but I'm glad you got a nap in and was able to salvage the evening. I totally agree with your Chef Mickey's assessment, the food isn't great, but the characters and setting are! :goodvibes We had the best character interaction of all at Chef Mickey's on our last trip, they really went above and beyond to connect with Everett.

I love the ears that Maddie is wearing, they are so cute!

I forgot to ask earlier, did you pack an extra bag for all of Maddie's friends that were coming back with you guys?

Love how she accessorized the dress with the hat. :thumbsup2

Boo for feeling under the weather on vacation

Aw Maddie looks adorable as always in her dress!

What cute character pictures from Chef Mickeys. I love that she noticed Donalds hat was missing right away!:thumbsup2

How sad that the TR is almost over but can't wait to hear what's in store for next time! Does Maddie know already?

Another great update! Sorry you were feeling under the weather.

CR is our favorite resort and we always end our trip with breakfast at Chef Mickey's before we head to the airport! Gotta get that one last dose of character magic before we head home.

Love Maddie's dress and hat! So cute. Sad that the report is wrapping up but excited to read the PTR for the new trip!!!

Yay for Chef Mickey's! I love that place... sounds like a good time! I wonder what happened to Donald's hat? He does look pretty odd without it! :rotfl:
