January 2014 discount watch!!

We are planning a trip for the family from 5th Jan to 10th then moving to Int'l drive but want the full disney experience for myself and the kids, wife unsure but with a good discount code I will convince her :-)

My mother and I are strongly considering going in January '14. (I say strongly and not definitely because we are taking a family non-Disney vacation in October for my father's 60th birthday and we have to see how that rolls out financially)

I'm not planning on booking anything until the summer when the packages come out partly because I'm not sure where we are staying. I'd like to upgrade from Pop seeing as I have not stayed in a moderate since 1997! I know my mom would like an escape from the sometimes truly scary food court (scary as in chaotic) and I'm hoping there's a decent dining and/or room discount that'll let us upgrade. I'd really like to be able to more for my mom than myself because aside from her view of the value resort food courts she also hates being cold and it sure was cold when we went in January 2010. (not that staying in a moderate would make it warmer; it would just be a nice touch to have on our vaca!)

My last trip was in October of 2011. Since then, about every other month I've gotten a pincode via snail mail from Disney. It's crazy! Apparently Mickey *really* misses my face. (This one was a code for up to 35% off rooms various dates now through September plus a code for free dining). However, I know that once I book my trip the postcards will cease to arrive because that's my luck afterall. :rotfl:

Count me in! We snagged one of the super cheap Miami wonder cruises over my birthday and thought why not round the week out with a couple days in WDW? :thumbsup2 We would be looking at either a couple days before the cruise or going wed-sun after the cruise, so sometime in late January!

We are going January 10-16 for 1/2 marathon. Hoping the dates are right just kind of guessing.

How would I get a pin code from Disney?

There is now way to 'get' a pin code. They just happen. There seems to be no way to figure out why or how people get them. Make an account on the disney website. Plan and "save" a few trips. Order the trip planning dvd. Sign up for e-mails and then cross your fingers. :thumbsup2

I was told I could book a room only reservation now and then in summer when they release the pkgs for 2014 I can change it. She said it meant cancelling the room only and rebooking it as a package. Sounds like a lot of work. So I'm just going to (not so) patiently wait until this summer to book. Hoping for a pin code OR news about free dining!

If you cxl room only reservation to make change will you still be able to have the same resort or do you start from scratch??

I have gotten snail mail and email from Disney - how do you know if a pin is attached? Obviously - have never gotten a pin or rather never known if I have gotten a pin... Is it really obvious or like a "Hidden Mickey"

My pins have usually come via snail mail and it is a brightly colored- Disney themed all over "tri- fold" sort of envelope. But not really an envelope If ya know what I mean :) sorta bigger than a regular envelope. And on a heavier card stock. In other words- you can't miss it BUT if your not careful you may end up throwing away as junk mail. Hope that helps :)

In the past I have always booked out at the 499 mark & never had any problems calling & adding a package to my existing reservation. They may have technically canceled & re-booked behind the scenes - but there was never a problem keeping the same resort and dates.

Just wanted to stop by, say Hi, and sub to this thread. We were just in Disney Jan 10-14 at the POR but we're planning our trips for next year (January 10-19, 2014 for Marathon Weekend and some time in October 2014 for another 9 nights for DD's 3rd birthday)

We will also be going next year for Marathon Weekend. We'll be staying Jan 10-19. DH ran this year but we were only there from the 10-14. Next year he'll be doing the Goofy Challenge and we're going to stay longer if we can get some kind of discount.

Subbing.

I really want to go in May 2014, but if good deal comes out, I'm flexible;)

We booked yesterday for mid January!! When we called to book we were told it is not a problem to add package to current reservations when they become avail in August or September. I though that was a bit late for the packages to become avail but I am still new to the in's and out's of the reservation maze.

Keep hoping one of those envelopes with a pin heads our way. That would be a wonderful thing but then again just being able to go to Disney next year with our family is a truly wonderful thing.

How crowded does it become during Marathon Weekend? The dates for next year for the Walt Disney World Marathon are January 9 - 12, 2014 and we will be arriving around then so I am a bit curious as to what can be expected.

It really wasn't bad at all. Walking around it seemed to be a little crowded but most rides had a 10 minute wait or less. We were able to walk right on to some of the big rides (tower of terror, space mountain, thunder mountain) in the afternoon after the races/race-related events. There are special buses for Marathon related events so park buses for other guests run as normal.

We went to Epcot after my husband finished running but a lot of others were still running for a few more hours. Epcot was interesting then because it's the end of the race and they're running through the park so it was hard to navigate some areas. It wasn't that big of a deal but next time I would just stay away from parks they are running through after gate opening times until a bit later in the afternoon when all of the runners are finished.

lol I am so excited to see I am not the only one planning a 2014 trip just days after new years 2013! haha Hubs thinks I am crazy... :surfweb:

BUahaha, I think I am planning a December 2014 trip :) Still haven't gone on my May 2013 Trip (or paid for it for that matter lol !!!)

How do you learn the race schedule to determine when to head to a particular park?

Hi Fellow Disers!

I'm planning a family trip for Jan 4-12, 2014. I'm so glad to see so many others planning early. It'll be my son's First Disney trip to celebrate his 5th birthday and my daughter's 2nd trip to celebrate her 10th Birthday. Haven't decided which resort to book??? Waiting on free dining or a great room only discount!
