We will be staying in AKV Jambo Dec. 7-14 in a 2 bedroom lock off villa. We're super excited as its our first time staying at a deluxe resort! We are renting the points and using David's DVC rentals as a broker. We have 4 adults and 3 kids. I was kinda hoping for Kidani as my mom and brother are both bigger people and would have been comfy in a queen bed each in the 2nd bedroom. I called AKL and the nice gentleman at the front desk informed me that in Jambo the second bedroom has a queen and a sleeper sofa. My question is...Are the sleeper sofas comfortable? Should I see if I could be switched to Kidani? Would it even be possible to switch to Kidani? My mom and brother said that they don't mind the sleeper sofa, but this is a big vacation for them and I really want them to have a magical time! I kind of like the idea of staying in the main lodge, but I don't know if the trade off of the 2nd queen bed is worth it! Any help would be appreciated! Sorry for the long winded post!

I don't have personal experience with the AKL sleeper sofa. But at BWV my sister slept 10 nights on the sleeper sofa and was very happy about it. I just tried it out briefly but felt comfortable as well. I think those aren't sofas which can host a guest on the odd night, they are built to function as a bed regularly.

Of course Kidani would also give you one more bathroom if that is of interest to you.

Personally, I prefer the amenities at Jambo (counter service restaurant, pool not across the street) but a lot of this is personal taste.

However, I am not sure whether the person you rented from would be willing to change your reservation now it has been made anyway.

My DH's sister and her husband slept on the sofa and said it was really comfy, especially after a long day in the parks...

Hi all,
I am new this thread, but not the forum! We are really excited about our upcoming stay at AKL, savannah with bunk beds on May 17-19!!!! We have stayed at the Grand Floridian twice, and off site at the Waldorf Astoria twice and are ready to try deluxe again. My girls can't wait to see the animals from our balcony! They're pretty excited to try out those bunk beds too!

Congrats on your up coming trip and I have added you to the list. Look forward to hear what you have say about the bunk beds...

....well, let me just say Jambo! and :welcome: to our 'kraal'....you won't regret booking AKL....feel free to ask any questions here about it, and we will certainly do our best to try to answer them....:thumbsup2

The countdown is on....we will be checking into AKL Jambo one week from today! We newbies are very excited!! I was wondering.... I see talk of in-room coffee makers. Does this apply to standard rooms, as well? Also, what's the furthest we could possible be from the Mara (drink refills)? We booked a "close to lobby" and "higher floor" request. Not sure I did good with those choices or not.:confused3

Also, I see mention of the jaccuzi. Is that only in Kidani, or does Jambo have one also? And is it a nice, relaxing environment. Last but not least...my son's eyes are very sensitive to chlorine in pools. Are the pools there overly chlorinated...anyone have experience with this? If we decided he needs googles, is there a place to get them (ours are packed far, far away in our summer stuff). Oh my - I just realized how badly I NEED this vacation! LOL.

We picked up cheap binoculars at Walmart this week for animal viewing... I sure hope the weather and crowds are great and we are all healthy for our trip. Yes - I know I'm rambling and my questions probably got buried in my post. :rolleyes1

:wave2: Jumping in and subbing! I'm a newbie to this thread and glad I found you. We just planned our first AKL trip for 8/21/13 and will be staying in a 1BR villa in Kidani! Never been there and can't WAIT to let all of your amazing expertise sink in!!!!

I'll take a crack at a couple of these--we did have a coffeemaker in our room--we had a savannah view, but I'm pretty sure they are in all the rooms, as we had originally booked a standard and I think I remember it being listed on the room 'ameneties' list.

Yes, there is a jacuzzi at Jambo. It's near the pool, sort of behind the slide. It actually is pretty relaxing back there though, as long as you don't mind the occasional leaf dropping into the thing from the trees that screen it off from the pool area. There were several kids using it with parents, but while we were there they all were well-behaved.

Chlorination--we did not find the pool to be overly chlorinated. Having said that, my son is one of those who thinks he absolutely cannot put his head underwater without goggles, and we were in the same position as you--goggles packed away for the winter. Luckily, they have a nice selection at the gift shop, including some cute Mickey ones. The CM who rang me up when I ran down to get them told me they also stock goggles and some other pool items in the Mara, which is much closer to the pool.

Hope that helps. I will leave the rest for the real experts! :)

That is how we booked. Everything so far has been great. We see our reservation on the website and were able to book our ADR. I was also able to complete our online check in. So far so good....7 more days and we will be there. Can't wait!!

What about KB's Rentals...(LoL) I heard he gets like $16 per point..:confused3 $15 for siblings...heh heh...J/K. I talked a friend of mine (from work) into renting & they said it was painless & had such a great time that If they don't buy DVC they'd easily do it again...Also one of the families that is going with us to AKL in April is renting while me & my neighbor are using points and one other family is also a 75 point member... Give it a try Ron can't complain about the price, I'm sure...Not at such a good price as these rental places...
