Port Orleans French Quarter Q&A Thread, New for 2012 (thread now FULL and CLOSED)

We usually go during this time under free dining- most of the time under bounce back. There are usually 2 weeks mid October excluded- usually around Columbus day

We have stayed in French Quarter 5 times now. Although this is still my favorite resort at WDW I was a bit disappointed this time. For the first time a majority of the buses also went through Riverside. In the past the AK bus would go thru POR but none of the others. In the 50+ days we have stayed at POFQ I bet only 4-5 times had we been forced to sit thru the POR stops. This year...90% of the time we ended up going thru POR. That made a 7min bus ride to Epcot into a 27-30min ride. In my opinion it took away one of the major advantages of staying at FQ. This may be old news to some but to me it was a first.

waiting for June and the new rates to be released so I can book our 2014 mas vacation. Trying to decide between POFQ or POR...any pros or cons that you may have? I just want to have all in order so I know what I am booking. as for FD, ya, not holding my breath-we will go either way. I budget for the meals and if we get FD, well, that is bonus spending money!

This is my first time on this site as a registered user though used it extensively a few years back before our first trip to Disney with the fam. Stayed in CSR then but definitely want to stay at POFQ this time around. My question is how long in advance do we need to book a room? We're planning to be at WDW from August 9th - 17th. Since POFQ is a much smaller resort, do we need to book now, or are we already behind the curve?

Thanks to any and all for any advice given...

I have stayed there 3 times in the last 2 years. Each trip only one time did we share a bus with POR. So not sure if this always the norm.

Just had a wonderful 2 night stay at POFQ. We were in room 5323 (king room) and loved the view! We wished it had a balcony to be able to listen to the river but from inside and outside the room it was nice! The food court was amazing as always and we used the boat a few times which was great and the bus to MK was great as well. The pool was warm unlike last March when we stayed there and the hot tub was wonderful as well!

At check-in the CM didn't set a credit limit for charging but thankfully we found that out at the resort gift shop so it was an easy fix. Housekeeping was great upon arrival and the one day that we had it. To me, it always feels like "home" staying there because of it's small size and great service IMO. We stayed one night at GF before POFQ and it was hard to leave GF but upon arriving I felt at ease and at home + overall we had a great stay!!

We have had the opposite experience on our 7 trips. We have had less trips thru POR especially in the morning . Of course the trip mid-day and later still shared (except for Epcot on the weekends last trip we went straight to Epcot).

Just booked our 3rd straight stay at POFQ! Heading down 4/25-5/4! We had an up to 35% off room offer that we were able to use for 20% off! The other Mods are at 30% off...but we love it here so much that we were willing to suck it up! 93 days to go!!! YAY!:cool1:

:wave2: I'll be checking out on 4/26.

That was our room in April 2009:

And then in November 2010 we had this room:

I like the number 23 -- it is our anniversary date. :)

The current bounce back excludes Oct. 6-19; it's also a room-only bounce back, not free dining, but you can add paid dining to the bounce back.

Is any military member going to POFQ from 14-21 FEB 2013?
The discounted price room is amazing and I would like to be able to get it. I found out a military member can book a second room at the discount. My son who is active duty can't go until the following week and I can only go the 14-21 FEB.
Thanks!

Like how good? Isn't it just like the public offer of 30% off? We are going without my ds who is in the military... we will be there 2/20 to 2/26...so similar dates to yours...

My dad just booked 3 rooms with the military discount for Sept 21st - 28th for 35% off the rack rate. A very nice discount if you ask me. Though I wouldn't turn down a 30% off discount either.

The military rate for POFQ 24th-28th FEB is $1026 for hotel and dining plan. Tickets for 4 day hopper are $156 each. That is for two people.

We have Sept 21st - 28th at $1056.80, room only x3 rooms booked with the discount. Will probably buy my own ticket through Undercover Tourist and will be paying OOP for all my meals.

I'm not sure if this has already been asked but I was wondering if we stay at riverside can we use our refillable mugs at port Orleans or vice versa?

When can we expect the 2014 rates to be released, my dining reservation date is July 9th and I want to have my reservations made. We plan on going Jan 4th, 2014:cool1:.<a href="http://distickers.com/ticker/"><img src="http://distickers.com/ticker/tickers/0p118u4szukfs5sepng" alt="DIStickers.com Ticker" border="0"/></a>
