I Can't See a Thing and Tiger Lady, Oh My! A Nov Mother & Daughter TR Update 5/7

One thing about Be Our Guest. No matter how many pictures you have seen, you will not be prepared for it! Truly a place where pictures do it NO justice!

I read everything I could get my hands on, and saw every picture and video that was leaked...and I was still blown away!

I also believe it will be come a 2 credit meal...if just for the experience! Much more magical than CRT! When you leave...linger a bit! They invite you to tour the other rooms....and when leaving the Beast, his knights of armor have a wonderful 'conversation' as you leave!

Nini

Nini, I could not agree more.

Nini, I could not agree more.

Why is it that every time I want to use a particular smily it disappears? :confused3 I can't find the dancing banana any where right now?

Any way, you guys are making me even more excited for my ADR at BOG! If I could get any more excited that is! :cool1: (I guess this guy will have to do tonight for the dancing banana).

Mom and I had just finished the WAT so we stopped for a minute across from Tusker House to get situated. We had the special pin, our name tag and our water bottle to deal with. The pins and name tags went in our bags but we were struggling with the water bottles. We finally clipped them to our bags. This turned out to be a bit annoying all day because they were metal and made a clanging sound when we walked. We talked for a few minutes about where to head next and we decided right then we would never get everything done so we were going to take our time and come back to AK on Friday.

Since we were no longer in a hurry, we decided to skip the Safari for now and go back to the Pagoni Forest Trail to see the gorillas. When we passed the Colobus Monkeys, they were right at the fence so I got some great pictures.

219.jpg

220.jpg

221.jpg

I also took a picture of the sign so I would remember their name:

222.jpg

Since we had already been in the bird sanctuary, we walked through pretty quickly and I only took one very blurry picture.

223.jpg

There was a hippo out and he was half in and half out of the water:

224.jpg

225.jpg

There were no Meerkats to be found we keep walking past that area pretty quickly.

We got to the gorillas and there was one big one sleeping right by the glass.

226.jpg

The baby was out playing but she (he?) was running around so I only got one picture.

227.jpg

We walked some more and found a few more gorillas.

230.jpg

After we finished the trail, we decided to walk to EE to get some fast passes and then get something to eat. The little snack on the Trek had not filled either one of us up. We walked around to Asia and ran into DeVine! I had never walked that way through AK before so I had never seen her.

231.jpg

232.jpg

233.jpg

In the third picture, she was waving at a toddler and slowly going towards him. But she got a little too close and he started crying. I’m not sure I blame him, she was a little creepy!

We also stopped to check out the tree from a different angle than either of us had seen.

234.jpg

Look, a Hippo! (after the Trek we became a little obsessed with Hippos).

235.jpg

We also had a few Photo pass pictures taken, the "roaring" one is one of my favorites from the trip.

We walked pretty quickly then to EE so I didn’t take any more pictures. We got our fast passes which would be good in about an hour.

We then trekked back around to Flametree Barbeque to get some lunch. I swear that AK is the hardest park to get from one place to another. They really need a few more bridges to Discover Island so you don’t have to walk around so far.

We both got ½ chicken with sodas to drink:

238.jpg

For dessert, Mom got Key Lime Pie and I got Chocolate Mousse:

239.jpg

I love Flametree, their food is so good and it didn't disappoint on this day! I think it’s one of the best CS at Disney. And the Chocolate Mousse is awesome, one of my favorite desserts. Mom really liked her Key Lime dessert too.

I got up to go get some more napkins and when I got back, my food was pushed to the center of the table. Mom told me that one of the big white birds had walked up to the table and tried to steal off of my plate! I wish I had been there to see that.

I have about an hour after lunch without any photos. We went back and rode EE, maybe not the best idea right after lunch. When I rode EE in 2010, I wasn’t feeling well that day and it made me so sick! I really hated it at the time. I wanted to try it again now that I was taking Bonine and had been fine on ToT. EE is now one my favorite roller coaster at Disney! The backwards part made my stomach do a little flip flop but I didn’t get queasy at all. And I saw the Yeti! I knew just were to look thanks to reading the DIS.

Mom missed the Yeti so she wanted to ride again. I was all for it but the line was a little long, I think about 30 minutes (wasn’t going the same route as RnR the day before) so we pulled another set of fast passes then headed to the 2 pm Flights of Wonder show.

As we were walking to the show, we saw NiniMorris from these boards again! Still didn’t think to stop and get a picture though.

We were a little early for the show so in spite of the fact that we just finished lunch, we decided it was time for a Mickey ice cream. I got a Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich and Mom got a Mickey Ice Cream Bar. Sorry, but I did not take any pictures. We sat in a little area across from the FOW theater and then headed over to listen to the preshow. A CM was holding an owl and answering questions about it.

242.jpg

We filed into the theater and go seats in the center section about five rows back. I took a lot of pictures of the different birds. Some came out blurry and at this point, I don’t know what kinds of birds they all were. So I’ll just post the pictures.

249.jpg

I had seen the show before but Mom hadn’t. As you can probably guess, we loved the show. It was very different from the first time I saw it as they use different birds in each show. They had one bird that caught grapes out of the air. The host had a young girl come up to throw one of the grapes. She didn’t do a very good job throwing but the bird still caught it a few inches in front of Mom’s face! We thought it was awesome but if you are not a fan of birds, you may want to skip this show!

They had quite a few birds out at the end so Mom and I headed up to get a closer look. Once about half the theater emptied out, they asked those of us remaining to have a seat as they were going to have some of the young rats that they were training do a practice run. It was pretty uneventful, the rats did what they were supposed to and then we left.

Now we come to the part in my TR where you get to see a picture that I’m almost sure you have never seen in another TR and will probably never see again.

250.jpg

Yes, I took a picture of the toilet paper holders in one of the bathrooms in AK! Not really my idea though, Mom wanted the picture. She just loved the fact that the paper stuck in the side of the holder so that you never had to search for the end of the roll. She wanted a picture to show everyone back home.

After our bathroom break and exciting picture taking, we headed back to EE to use our second set of fastpasses.

251.jpg

I was given one of the red tags that they use to determine wait times. I seem to be a magnet for those; I get them all the time! This was the first of three I got this week. I found it strange though to get one in the Fastpass line. I don’t think I even had the thing for more than a minute before I handed it over.

I told Mom where the Yeti was and also where the camera was. She managed to see the Yeti and we did the most boring ride pose you can do.

252.jpg

Boring but at least I finally got a red neck ride photo!

After that, we spent some time on Discover Island, walking around the tree and seeing the few animals that are around there.

253.jpg

The Kangaroos weren’t out but the Otters were and I managed to get a pretty cute picture:

255.jpg

We didn’t get very far because most of the trail is still closed since they had the tree branch fall in the spring.

We did some shopping but didn’t buy anything and then decided to see A Bug’s Life while the parade was going on. While walking through the line, I took the required photo of the Chimpanzee:

256.jpg

And one of this Lizard creature since I thought he looked neat:

257.jpg

We walked straight into the lobby with no line but we just missed a show so we waited a few minutes.

Once we got done with Bug’s Life, we decided to head out for the day at about 4:30. We were headed to DTD where we had an ADR at 7:30 and we wanted to do some shopping before dinner.

Up Next: Downtown Disney and our worst meal of the trip

Added breeds for the birds I knew above! :thumbsup2

I love Flametree BBQ too, such yummy food.

Sometimes I feel like I could definitely spend more than one day in AK, especially with the new Wilderness Explorer stuff that they’re starting up there! I really want to explore around the trails and stuff more, there’s so much to look at!

Ahaha, Paige felt the same way as that toddler did with DeVine, I think it’s awesome, but can definitely be creepy at points! Yay! I’m so glad you guys got a roaring picture, love it! Mom and I got one too! Flame Tree BBQ looks amazing, I definitely just said “okay, we’re eating there” I’ve been wanting to forever, but I always end up at Tusker, or with someone who’s not a chicken on the bone person…lol

I also have to agree that it’s SO HARD TO GET AROUND in AK, like, I go from CMM to EE, and it takes forever, where as, that would be like, going from Splash to The Teacups or something, but everything in AK takes so much longer, ugh!

THOSE BIRDS!! NO!!! JUST NO!!!! I do not accept them, they are terrifying!

Yay for liking EE now, it’s such an awesome ride, glad you enjoyed it. Aw man, it doesn’t matter what time of day it is, or when you last ate, it is always a good time for a Mickey bar!

WAIT WHAT?!!? KANGAROOS AND OTTERS?!?! (see this is why I need to explore more of AK, especially the trails around the tree) I had no idea those were there!

Thanks! I appreciate your help with the animal names. Yum, Flametree! I'm drooling just thinking about it.

AK is usually a full day park for me but I can spend loads of time just watching the animals! I saw something about the Wilderness Explorer stuff, I need to find out more.

Yep, I found DeVine slightly creepy! Maybe it's because she's a "vine" (ok, that was really bad! :rotfl:

Yep, I like the roaring picture a lot. For some reason we didn't get a lot of magic shots this time.

You have to try Flametree! It is soooo good! I've never eaten at Tusker House but I may with DH when we go in October. He loves Donald so I thought it might be nice to try there.

It is hard to get around there! There are just too many sections that bottleneck. There were dancers performing in front of Tusker House and it was almost impossible to get through that area.

THOSE BIRDS!! NO!!! JUST NO!!!! I do not accept them, they are terrifying!

The do swoop awfully low so if you are afraid of them, I would skip the show. The grape catching one was not the only one that flies over the audience.

Yay for liking EE now, it’s such an awesome ride, glad you enjoyed it. Aw man, it doesn’t matter what time of day it is, or when you last ate, it is always a good time for a Mickey bar!

I can't wait to ride EE multiple times next month! I've already got a new package of Bonine in my "Disney box".

Yep, I agree it's always a good time for a Mickey Ice Cream.

WAIT WHAT?!!? KANGAROOS AND OTTERS?!?! (see this is why I need to explore more of AK, especially the trails around the tree) I had no idea those were there!

There are a lot more animals in AK that you realize when just walking through. I've never actually seen the Kangaroos though. They are always "in the back of the area sleeping". At least that's what the CM there says. Did you know there are live animals in Dinoland too? Mom and I discovered those when we went back on Friday. The best thing to do is grab a map and look for the paw prints. Every place there is a paw print, there is a live animal!

ACK! Paige and I will definitely be spending more time at AK this trip..doesn't help that last trip we got rained out either bahaha.

Also, just saw all the talk about BOG, and I have to agree, I had seen so many pictures and videos before I went down, but I was so not prepared, for any of FLE either haha, it really blew me away, it's gonna be a fantastic dinner!!

Yes, do spend more time at AK, there is so much to see! Funny thing is, I'm only spending about 2/3 of a day there in March. Mom and I explored it so thoroughly in November that I don't feel the need for a whole day this time.

Cannot wait to eat at BOG!!!!

Let's finish up this day!

On the way out of AK, we stopped for a minute to check out the Christmas tree. We had run right by it that morning in our hurry to meet with our tour group. I loved this tree! All of the animal ornaments were so pretty.

258.jpg

259.jpg

260.jpg

As we were walking to the Bus Stops, an OKW bus pulled up so we hopped on since I knew it was near DTD. I asked a couple sitting near us on the bus what was the quickest way to get to DTD from there and they kindly told us to get off at the first bus stop and then pointed out the DVC ferry that goes to DTD.

As we were walking to the ferry dock, I took some pictures of OKW. This is the first time I’ve been anywhere near this resort and both Mom and I thought it was beautiful.

261.jpg

262.jpg

263.jpg

I wish we would have gone into the Lobby to look around but we were anxious to get some shopping done so we went straight to the dock. I was a little nervous riding the DVC ferry when we weren’t DVC members but no one asked and there were only two other groups on the ferry. What a beautiful ride to DTD!

264.jpg

267.jpg

Once we got to DTD, we headed to the Marketplace to do some shopping! I loved this tree outside of Fulton’s, so pretty and unique.

268.jpg

I only took one more picture before dinner as we were too busy shopping, this Lego statue:

269.jpg

I mainly took that for my Aunt who is a huge fan of the villains, in particular Maleficent. We headed into the World of Disney where my Mom immediately found a cute pink Mickey Mouse hoodie for my Cousin’s daughter. Unfortunately, they didn’t have her size so the CM at the nearest desk directed Mom to the merchandise counter (that’s not what it’s called but I’m drawing a blank at the moment) that was located in the jewelry room.

While the CM looked up the sweatshirt to see what other stores carried it, I strolled over to check out the Dooney & Bourke purses. They had at least ten of the style that I wanted so a very nice CM helped me look through all of them. There was one with Pluto on the front but he was under the buckle so you could barely see him. She also looked in the back but they didn’t have any more.

Mom was done about that time and I showed her the one with the “hidden” Pluto. We both agreed that I should keep looking. We then headed to the other side of the room because I wanted to look at the watches and the charms. I wanted to get a gold Mickey watch for work and also a charm for my Pandora bracelet. Somehow, the same girl who helped me with the purses was there and she was kind enough to get every watch and charm out of the case for me to look at. I felt kind of bad but I didn’t buy anything that night because I wanted to think about it for a while. I did notice that she had a Pluto pin on her lanyard so I traded her for it.

I did find the Pluto shirt that I saw at Epcot and I grabbed it along with a 5 x 7 frame and a pair of Disney boxers for DH. Mom found a sweatshirt for my Cousin’s oldest. So now we had one for her oldest (7 year old boy) and youngest (1 ½ girl) but not for her 5 year old daughter. But Mom did have a list of stores to look for the one we liked.

After WOD, we walked over to Trend-D and looked at more purses. I love all of the clothes they sell in Trend-D but not the prices! We moved quickly through Team Mickey stopping only for a minute to look at a few more kids sweatshirts.

As we walked through the Guest Services area, we noticed that it was raining outside. No problem because I had ponchos in my bag. We spent about ½ hour in Arribas Brothers. I was checking out all of the Pluto items and agonizing over what I was going to buy. If I would have bought every Pluto item that I didn’t already have I could have spent at least $1,000. Since I didn’t have that kind of money, I needed to pick one item to bring home. I didn’t buy anything at that time since there is a store on Main Street and several in World Showcase that carry the same stuff.

It was getting close to our ADR so we headed out of Arribas Brothers. I was ready to get out the ponchos but it had stopped raining already. We headed back towards Pleasure Island to our ADR at Raglan Road.

We checked in about 15 minutes early and were given a buzzer. By this time we were starving despite the amount of food we had eaten earlier in the day. We were also getting pretty tired as we started the day very early. I don’t think we waited too long before we were called and I was slightly disappointed to be seated in the little bar towards the front of the restaurant. We were hungry though and I knew that they came and danced in that area and we could hear the music so I didn’t ask for a different table.

They brought the bread out and took our drink orders pretty quickly. I got Sprite again and Mom got iced tea. We just weren’t feeling the alcoholic drinks this week.

270.jpg

Unfortunately neither of us liked the bread. I didn’t care for the texture and Mom took one bite and was done. She didn’t really say why she didn’t like it. We did ask if they had any plain bread, but they didn’t. Mom ordered the Salmon of Knowledge:

271.jpg

And I got the Lambo but ordered it without the leeks and mushrooms:

272.jpg

Mom was very disappointed with her dish. The Salmon was overcooked and the mash potatoes cold and bland. My lamb was delicious; it fell off the bone when I picked it up. It did take a while to eat because there was a lot of fat that I picked off. I had to agree with mom on the mashed potatoes. I though mine were just bland because I ordered them without the leeks but Mom’s were just as bad.

While we were eating, the dancers came into the bar area and….... danced right behind a pole that was blocking our table. I could see them a little bit if I slid to the side but Mom couldn’t see them at all. Let’s see if dessert was any better.

I ordered the Dunbrody Kiss:

273.jpg

And Mom got the Ger’s Bread & Butter Pudding:

274.jpg

I liked the Dunbrody Kiss except for the layer of nuts on the bottom. There was nothing on the menu about nuts but since they were just on the bottom they were easy to pick off. I was really surprised they weren’t mentioned since there are a lot of people with nut allergies. I probably should have asked but there wasn’t anything else I would have gotten. Mom loved the Bread Pudding but was only able to eat a little bit. It was huge!

There was a family sitting next to us that was amused by my food picture taking. They asked if I wanted pictures of theirs too! They then offered to take a picture of Mom and me and then we took one for them.

275.jpg

We agreed as we left that we did not really care for Raglan Road. I may give it another go but it will probably be a few years before I do.

We were pretty tired at that point and I was getting a headache but we were determined to catch a few more stores since we didn’t think we would be back to DTD again. We stopped in Pin Traders but it was very crowded and they didn’t have the big board open. Then we stopped at Marketplace Fun Finds to see if they had any inexpensive gifts to take home but didn't find anything.

Our final stop was The Art of Disney. As we were walking there, I remembered that I was supposed to call DH after dinner. I stood outside the store while Mom went in and talked to him for a few minutes. As I was standing there, Mom came back out and literally dragged me into the store. This is what she had spotted:

276.jpg

A very cute Pluto picture! But the reason she dragged me in was because I had bought the same exact print at an antique store in October. Here’s my picture:

plutopicture_zpsd751c5e8.jpg

We looked around the store a bit longer and then headed to the bus stop. We only waited a few minutes for the bus and were back in our room in no time. We were exhausted and pretty much headed straight to bed.

Up Next: A new breakfast experience and Monorail resorts

I've never eaten at Raglan Road and never had any interest in doing so. Sorry it wasn't all that good for you guys.

I love Art of Disney. Every time I go in there I want to leave with half the store! :goodvibes

I was excited to try Raglan Road because I love Irish music and dancing. Didn't really get to enjoy either of those though and the food was just so so. I probably will try it again but it will be a while.

Art of Disney is a dangerous store! I don't know which is worse for me, that one or Arribas brothers!

Downtown Disney is totally what I do after AK too! It just works thanks to the timing of both the things. It sucks that Ragland Rd wasn't as good as it could have been, that sucks. I'm glad you guys got lots of shopping to do! I definitely don't do that much, but cannot get through TrenD without buying anything. I just love the styles of everything and that it's not so "in your face" disney merchandise haha

I almost always do DTD after AK. It just works out since AK closes so early. I don't think I'm going to make it to DTD this next trip. I just can't seem to find time for it in my schedule. Plus I'm trying not to spend money this trip as I have no gift cards. I don't think there is any way I could go to DTD and not spend money!

We were up at 5:30 and out the door on Wednesday by 7 am. It was really warm already and going to be in the 80s so Mom decided she didn’t want to lug her sweatshirt around and left it in the room. I tied mine around my waist because I get cold after the sun goes down.

We were headed to the Contemporary to have breakfast at The Wave. Mom had read some good stuff about this restaurant and we wanted to try it out. We were paying out of pocket since we booked one too many table service meals for the week.

A MK bus pulled up almost immediately when we got to the bus stop. Of course when I wasn’t worried about our time, a bus came right way. Our ADR was for 8 am but I didn’t think getting there on time was going to be essential.

After we circled CBR and picked up at each stop, the driver asked where everyone was headed. Everyone was either going to the Contemporary or the Polynesian so she said she would take us directly there. She stopped at the Contemporary first so we got there right around 7:30 am. Since we were so early we stopped at the restroom where we were both very impressed by the “real” towels to dry your hands.

We then headed to The Wave:

277.jpg

278.jpg

As I suspected, there was no real need for the ADR because the place was empty. We were seated right away despite being very early and decided to get the buffet. Since it was so empty, and the buffet is behind a wall, I just went ahead and took pictures of the entire thing for your enjoyment!

Multigrain Mickey Waffles, Sweet Potato Pancakes, Scrambled eggs, and Eggs Benedict:

279.jpg

Cinnamon buns, some kind of egg casserole, potatoes, and bacon:

280.jpg

Sausage, Cheesy Eggs, gravy and under the cloth, biscuits:

Different kinds of breads/muffins:

282.jpg

Toppings (I think the red stuff in the middle was Watermelon):

283.jpg

Fruit:

284.jpg

Smoked Salmon and toppings for it:

285.jpg

They also brought out a tray of bagels later but there wasn’t any there when we first went back.

Cereals:

286.jpg

Oatmeal:

287.jpg

And that’s everything. Mom got coffee and Orange Juice and I just got Apple Juice. I didn’t take pictures of our individual plates but I had the Mickey Waffles (yum!), the sweet potato pancakes (good but a little too sweet for my taste), eggs, potatoes, and fruit. I also grabbed my standard plain bagel on a second trip. The food was not bad, your typical buffet fair with a few unique items thrown in. We both agreed that we would like to come back someday for lunch or dinner.

The restaurant is very pretty. We both loved the chairs and the light fixtures and how they fit into the theme of the restaurant.

After stuffing ourselves with yummy breakfast food, we headed upstairs to see the Contemporary Christmas decorations and do some shopping. The Christmas Decorations were pretty underwhelming. I only took one picture of the Gingerbread Tree:

290.jpg

They were setting up the sweet shop and it was hard to get good pictures at that time.

We spent some time in the gift shop. Mom found a cute Address book and also a Minnie Mouse change purse. She didn’t want to carry them around all day but you can’t send back to the room from one resort to another. She was going to put them back but I said why don’t we share a locker so I could put up my sweatshirt since it was so warm that day. I also reminded her that one of the stores we wanted to look at for kids sweatshirts was right inside the gates. If we found the one we were looking for, she could put that in the locker too. She bought her two items and then we headed up to the Monorail to go to the Grand Floridian.

Along the way I found the five legged goat in the Mural:

291.jpg

I also took some pictures from the Monorail platform. This wreath was huge!

292.jpg

I love how the entrance to this store is one big Mickey:

294.jpg

The Monorail came pretty quickly (we got the gold one) and we were on our way to GF.

295.jpg

I took some pictures along the way:

We skipped over the Polynesian and got off at GF. We went into M. Mouse Mercantile to look around before heading downstairs. I wanted this wreath that was in the window towards the back of the store:

301.jpg

Of course it wasn’t for sale and I have no idea how I would get it home, it was pretty big! I was impressed at finding such an elaborate wreath hidden way in the back of the store. Disney sure knows how to do it right for Christmas!

We headed downstairs to check out the Gingerbread house and the GF Christmas tree.

We looked around at a few more stores at GF but didn’t buy anything and then headed back to the Monorail. We got the silver one this time but I forgot to take a picture.

Up Next: Magic Kingdom and New Fantasyland time!

Sounds like a great morning! I was also underwhelmed by the decorations at the Contemporary.

Good pictures in front of the tree at GF!

That bread pudding looks AMAZING! Love the pictures of you and your mom. I hope one day me and my mom can go again!!

Are you getting excited about your upcoming trip?!?! I leave the First of March, only 31 days away:cool1:

We did have a very nice, laid back morning!

Thanks! I was really happy to see a PP photographer there so early in the morning

Mom really loved the bread pudding except the raisins in it. Of course that was just because she doesn't like raisins. She was easily able to pick them out though.

Definitely get a Mom and Daughter trip in if you can, we had so much fun.

I am soooo excited about my upcoming trip, I leave on 2/28. I think I check the countdown on my phone two or three times a day! The only down side is that Mom is a little upset because she wants to go too. We are busy planning our family trip that will be in early 2014.

I need to hop over to your PTR to see if we cross paths at all. If you happen to see me come up and say hi!

EEEEK! :scared1: I fell so far behind! Three updates since I have posted any comments! :faint: Well, let me just start by following up on your visit to RR...

We didn't care for it either. :worried: We too were SO excited for this one. We actually went on our first night at Disney, before even visiting any parks. There was drama before we even got there (check my March 2012 TR to get the scoop on THAT story :rolleyes2). We didn't like the bread at all. We sort of liked the dip, but not enough to change how we felt about the bread. I ordered the Shephard's Pie and I didn't like it either. I do have to agree on the Lamb. DH ordered that and it was delicious! My oldest DD ordered the Sod the Stew and it too was so good. So if we ever DO go back, I will order one of those. I got the Bread Pudding. Just like your mom, I loved it but only ate a few bites. So hard to see so much go to waste! :faint: We were seated in the "music room" with a pole between us and the stage, but we were lucky enough for a few dancers to come all the way back to our section to give us a little side show. That was cool. Overall, RR was underwhelming for our family as well.
