Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant/Dining Help Thread

Would this apply to the WDW Dole Whips too? I've never tried one and now I'm curious!!

Teresa

I would assume that since Dole reformulated their product that it would be available in WDW too. The only reason I could imagine it wouldn't be vegan at WDW was if they still had old packages of it in storage before it was reformulated.

Hello all! I just found this thread last night and am so happy about it!

I am leaving on saturday for a long weekend at Disney and it will be my first time there in 2 years and my first on property visit in probably 4 or 5. Does Disney carry any milk alternatives, specifically almond milk? I am hypothyroid so I try to avoid soy milk if possible, especially in the morning when I take my medication.

Also, I think I may have seen it somewhere but does Disney have greek yogurt or just standard regular yogurt? (Not vegan; I just hate regular milk.:rotfl:)

They have rice milk, but I'm not sure about almond milk. I've also only seen soy yogurt in the past.

I had greek yogurt at Kouzzina for breakfast (last week). I don't recall if I saw it other places.

Would love Disneyland vegan info. Going in 2 weeks for the first time in years. I know I can get something custom at Napa Rose, but want to know other good options for the parks/hotels.

Blue Bayou at DL can accommodate vegans. The chef came out and offered me the portobello dish or a pasta dish. At the time I was not GF, so I chose the pasta, and it was great! I've had vegan and gluten free waffles at Minnie's breakfast and Surf's Up, too. I don't remember where else I ate last summer!

I am here now and am really terrible about taking pictures, but I thought I would share a quick review of where (and what) we have eaten so far.

Our arrival dinner was at Boma, which was as delicious as always. They are always so wonderful and accommodating. As luck always has it, they never have the Butternut Squash soup, but when I mentioned how much I love it, the chef ran in the back and got a nice piping hot bowl for me. Also on my menu were the hummus, the garbanzo bean and edamame salad, pap, chakalaka, spring mix with mango dressing, and couscous with nuts. I was just headed back for dessert (plate in hand) and noticed a boy about my son's age (7) up at the dessert pod alone. He was awfully close to them...looking, breathing on them, and then coughing. I quickly began to look around to see if anyone belonged to him, or was supervising him, when I heard a wretch and when I turned bac to look he was king his guts out all over the floor. So gross. The CMs really should discourage children from being up there alone. Yuck. Ick. Ew. Needless to say, I skipped dessert.

For breakfast the next day I had the Quinoa at Mara. It was-well. Quinoa. Basic, filling and good (I added brown sugar).

Lunch at Mara was the Falafel. It was decent, but not as good as I remember. I enjoyed the couscous it came with more.

Lunch at Sci Fi: We walked up for lunch today at 12:30 and lucked out on a car. I have looked at this place before because I thought the theme was neat, but the menu never appealed to me. My friend and I split the veggie burger and sweet potato fries, and I had a vanilla Coke. I was pleasantly surprised! Plenty of food for me for lunch and the burger was quite good. Dare I say, I would eat there again?! Certainly more appealing than any CS there...

I'll keep updating as we go along...tomorrow I will add our two dinners at Via Napoli and Tutto Italia!

ADRs we have planned for the rest of the week include Raglan Road, Flying Fish, and BOG.

There are a lot of wonderful vegan options at Disneyland! Here's just a few (private message me for more detailed info..I can also tell you which things you'd think you could make vegan that you can't...)

"Chefs vegan burger" at the Carnation Cafe on MainStreet
Vegetable Gumbo in a bread bowl at the Royal Street Veranda in New Orleans Square (my favorite!)
Sweet Potato Fries at the Hungry Bear in Critter Country
Vegetable Kabobs at Bengal Barbecue in Adventureland
A few customizable options at Blue Bayou in New Orleans Square
Frozen 100% apple juice at the cart in Fantasyland
just to name a few!

over at DCA there are several great options as well..
Massive Burritos (make sure to ask for "no cheese or sour cream") at Cocina Cucamonga in Pacific Wharf
Tofu Bowl at Lucky Fortune Cookie (depending on the sauce you get with it)
Uniquely flavored popcorn at the Cozy Cones in Carsland (I've had both dill pickle and salt and vinegar before...it changes depending upon the day, and ALL flavor are vegan! even "butter" and "bacon"!)
Red's Apple Freeze at the Cozy Cones in Carsland (this is delicious, it's mostly made of frozen applejuice, but it also contains passion fruit foam and a vegan marshmallow syrup)

LaBrea Bakery (In Downtown Disney, just outside the gates of DCA) has a vegetable pannini that can be made vegan by omitting the cheese.

Lots of other snack options as well!

Back from the World a couple weeks ago and just thought I would mention two very good meals I had while I was there. One was the Spaghetti and "Meatballs" at the 50's Primetime Cafe. I actually ate in the bar area since I was solo. The meal was very good and was pretty basic which is good for me. The other was at the Rose and Crown at the England pavilion. Had the Vegetable Stone Pie off the lunch menu. Now that was good stuff. Both very good vegetarian options. Also the AllEars menus were life savers as I am kind of picky and was able to check out all the restaurants to see what was available.

FYI, the French Onion soup at BoG is vegetarian. I about crawled out of my chair with excitement. It's not vegan, due to the cheese on top, but I *think* it would be if you omitted the cheese. Not completely certain.

Plasticletters, do you know if the Vegetarian Chili at DL contains mushroom (pieces, protein, powder?) I am a long-time vegetarian with a mushroom allergy, and I am in the process of giving up dairy. I am ten days off of it and had a bit yesterday and cannot believe how much it affected me, so it appears this change will be permanent. (My intention was to ease up while I traveled, and allow dairy in limited quantities.) I am beyond excited about the items you listed at the Cozy Cones!

Are there any Resort restaurants that you have to visit each time even when you aren't staying at that resort? What are your favorite Resort restaurant entrees?

Thank you all so much for the tips and Meal ideas! DH and I are Vegan and DD is a vegetarian...we are taking our first trip to Disney World in 3 weeks!
So many food options..so excited! :)

I have a few questions tho- I have seen mixed info on diff blogs an websites

1) do i have to request a dairy free bun at cosmic rays for the veg burger?
2) we are staying at AoA - is that veg burger bun vegan?
3) yay or nay on the dole whip being vegan now?

I am so excited for babycakes! :)

I will be sure to "pay it forward" and share my food porn pics here when we get back!

Dole Whip should be vegan - ask to see ingredients if you're not sure.

Don't know about the buns at AoA, but they have soups that are either veg or vegan - they had carrot ginger when we were there in Jan!

Is it well known that the cupcakes (not babycakes) aren't even vegetarian?

I had occasion to notice it at DiseyLAND (gelatin twice in a specialty cupcake at Hungry Bear), and I recently read a post elsewhere that seemed to indicate that it's known at WDW, too (referencing lard).

Is this across the board at WDW that it's lard being used?

I did try once of the cupcakes two years ago, and it was awful, so it's not even that I desperately want one, but I would like to know.

And maybe we'll try babycakes again. We really disliked our choices the previous time we tried them, but there was a delay in eating them, so maybe that's why.

It's really neat that the french onion soup at BOG is veggie. :)

I'm glad to hear that the Spaghetti and Meatballs are still there. The menu on Dis lists Uncle Dana's Artichoke and Risotta Agnolotti as the veggie option, which did not appeal to me.

If you have a chance to get the chocolate chip
Cookie sandwiches from babycakes you won't be disappointed! They are sooooo super decadent and delicious.

I don't think it's widely known. The last I'd read (which admittedly has been some time) was that it was up for debate. The ingredient book at Starring Rolls definitely says "shortening," although it's a bit of an ambiguous term. Seems that it could go either way. I would get ahold of the allergy book if you are concerned and see whether it is listed.

Gelatin is a different bird. I believe it is hit or miss - Zebra Domes, for example, have it, but other baked goods do not. To be honest, although it grosses me out, it is one of those foods that I will put "out of sight, out of mind." It doesn't cause stomach upset like I would have if I ate chicken fat or similar, so if I don't know it's there, I just pretend it's not. (I have literally told chefs, 'if it contains Worcestershire Sauce or gelatin, just don't tell me,' lol.) I know that's weird... my point is just I am not the leading authority on gelatin, lol.

Babycakes website lists their entire bakery as vegan.
