It's NEVER Too Late, for Number 8 - the most UNOFFICIAL, 'official' AKL thread yet!

We have driven ourselves around the last two times but its not particularly about timing for us, it is about convenience. We like not having to wait for a bus, like not having to stand the 20 minute ride to MK, and like to eat at the resorts a fair number of dinners which we find more convenient with a car (I have also had Tables in Wonderland so valet parking is free while dining). At parks close I like just walking back to my car and hopping in, not standing in line for the 2nd or 3rd bus to get us 'home'! :goodvibes

Okay....last question ( I think). What's the easiest way to get from AKL to Hoop De Doo & then back? The last time we went to HDDR, it was a MK day so we just took a boat from MK to FW & back but this time is different. It's a resort & relaxation day. (gotta schedule one per trip)

The one time we did it we were running late & took a cab. But then we had to take the bus @FW.

Honestly, I think I'd take the bus to MK, then take the boat.

Or, take a bus to AK, then a bus to FW.

Just as TruBlu said, I think your best bet is to take the bus to the MK and then the boat to FW. From what I understand if you arrive at FW by bus you would have to take the internal bus to Pioneer Hall (or whatever the place is called where the show takes place). Also it would be the most scenic mode of transportation. Coming back depends on your show time. If the MK is still open, go again via MK. Otherwise use any other park that is still open (like a park with evening EMH) as a transfer point. And if nothing is open you would have to go through Downtown Disney. I would however strongly suggest to get a cab instead to save yourself time. Transferring through Downtown Disney is a headache and takes ages!! The cab fare from WL to AKL in 2010 was a little under 20 $ (and I added a tip). The drive is about 20 minutes.

We are very excited to be staying at AKL in June. Looks like a fabulous resort! Having spent the last two visits at pop, we are looking forward to this. It seems very laid back when compared to pop.. is that an accurate description?

Does anyone have any experience with loading gift cards on your KTTW card at akl? I have read that some resorts cant or wont do it because they lack the knowledge and or training. What about undercover MYW tickets? I have read that in the past certain software limitations prevented it from happening. Anyone with any experience good or bad?

thanks!

When we stayed at POR last year they said they couldn't pre-load the kttk with our gift card, but after we had reached what the card was we could come back and use it to help cash out the balance.

Are you referring to MYW tickets purchased from Undercover Tourist? If so, my DD and her DH purchased tickets from Undercover Tourist and had them put on their KTTW card at the Concierge Desk.

We stayed at POP 4 times before our last trip to AKL.
To say that AKL is more laid back than POP.....absolutely!
POP is a bright, fun and loud resort - while we had a lot of fun there - our family outgrew the room and the need to be on the go-go-go.
Our last trip was at AKL and it is like night and day.
AKL definately lends itself to a more relaxing stay - the pool area is amazing - but still fun for the kiddos. They have lots of poolside activities for them...while DH and I got to actually relax poolside for the first time in all of our Disney vacations. :cloud9: The atmosphere of AKL is truly like a vacation within a vacation. There are tons of things to do (bead activities for the kids, poolside movies nightly and pool parties daily, animal viewing areas etc..) but there is a lot of room and opportunity to slow down, relax and enjoy.

Great! and yes they are UT tickets - which are about are about $47 or so less in our case. Every penny counts :) It seems everyone has different experiences with tickets and giftcards. We have (95%) decided to pass on the dining plan this year so we are loading up on gift cards via target and the 5% off. I figure we will buy about $1,250 worth for a discount of $63. My hope was to load our KTTW card (band) with gift cards and the tickets - looks like the gift cards may be a pay as you charge on the KTTW card instead of being loaded.. but at least the park tickets can be loaded!

We are on our honeymoon right now. We stayed 10 days at POR before moving over to AKL club level last night. I'm so glad we decided to splurge for our last two nights. Our room is beautiful. On the kudu (?) trail with an amazing view and king bed like I requested through IPO. We had dinner at Boma last night and it was delicious. My husband tends to be a less adventures water than I am and he found lots of things he loved. We had a gift in our room from the resort which was a sweet surprise, little chocolates with a picture of the lodge printed on one. We are relaxing by the pool now, planning a walk to Kidani later. I am so relaxed and happy right now.

That's awesome! Happy Disneymoon to you! We love POR and just did 2 nights at AKL for the first time in October. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Why don't you use your gift cards to pay for your meals?

I had no idea you could do that! After more than 50 trips to WDW I just learned something new. Thanks, Kathy!!

Convenience factor really.. one less card to carry around. Plus if you lose your KTTW card/band it can be replaced. Gift cards cant.

And its hard to add a tip to a gift card for some reason... most places say they can't do it unless they also do a new charge of like a penny or quarter. Sometimes they just told us not to bother, so we just used our KTTW and then stopped by guest services and applied GCs later. We didn't cart them around, just took a stack from the safe when we had time and visited with them. :thumbsup2
