ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: September 2012

I know my trip is still months away, but I have some questions:

1. Has anyone used the Neverland Club for their kids? DH and I were thinking of leaving the boys there for a few hours so we could enjoy an adults-only evening at Epcot.

2. Are the fridge's big enough to fit a 1/2 gallon of milk or do we have to get a smaller size? Also, is there enough room to freeze a couple bottles of water in the freezer section?

3. Is there usually a long wait to do laundry at the laundry facilities?

I'm sure I will have more questions as time goes on, but thanks in advance for your help!

1. Our girls LOVED the Neverland Club. The first time we took them we were very apprehensive. Youngest DD is in the autism spectrum and has lots of food allergies. The staff was wonderful! We had a wonderful "date night" and when we picked up the girls, they did not want to leave. They begged to go back so we cancelled out TS for the family for two nights later and rebooked the Neverland Club and another TS for a second date night. Kids were over the moon to go twice in one trip.

2. Yes--the fridge will fit half gallons. We usually have 2 half gallons of milk, a quart of Chocolate milk, water bottles, beer and yogurt in the fridge. We do usually remove one of the wire shelves so that we can pack it with our stuff. There is no freezer section.

3. No. Hubby does the laundry on our vacations to Disney as he uses it for his "me" time. He reads magazines and such. He has had a few occasions where he had to wait a little while for a dryer. I suppose it depends on the time of day. He usually went between 2pm-5pm while I played in the pool with the girls and had no real crowding issues.

Heading for my first Poly trip with my family of 5 in November. This is also our first trip in the off season, which I am really looking forward to. Our previous trips were during Spring Break and Christmas, so I can't wait to tour the world with less people!

Originally heard end of Feb until 3/2 for maint. Disboard blog doesn't have anything listed. Mousesavers says 3/4- 3/15/13.

What do you think is right...I'm leaning towards *cover eyes, throw dart at board*
:sad2:

So I am thinking about switching to a lagoon view room at the poly for our upcoming trip. From tikimans site, it seems tahiti will have the nicest lagoon view room...So I would like everyone's opinion on Tahiti Lagoon View First floor rooms. Did you like it? If you have pictures, that would be fabulous!! Or if you want to suggest another longhouse/room number that would be great also! Thanks!!

this makes me really nervous as we arrive on the 4th. Hoping this is wrong.

I like your questions!! We requested Tahiti Lagoon View for our 1st stay at the Poly this coming September. I too would love pictures or to hear any advice - hoping we made a good decision!

Does anyone know what is going on with the room refurbs? I requested Tahiti- 1st floor...

Can't wait to get back to the Poly! I can taste the Dole Whips already!:)

The only longhouse closed right now for renovations is Hawaii (CL), so you should be good! We requested Tokelau first floor, facing the quiet pool. I'm so excited to go back too!

Pool closure Feb. 18-28..........just read on Tikiman's site........he usually knows what he's talking about.

Tikiman's FB page says some guests are reporting that 'Ohana is testing some menu changes...anyone know more about this?

We got a taste test of the stir fry at breakfast last week. My wife liked it a lot and thought it was healthier tasting. She voted yes when they asked her.

I just stayed in Tahiti first floor, rooms 1037 and 1038. I liked it a lot. Easy walk to the transportation center, great to watch fireworks from the patio and the hammock. You could see yhe castle and Space Mountain. The boat parade at closing was a surprise -- don't try to go to sleep before it goes because it's loud. So are the ferry horns first thing on the morning if you're wanting to sleep in.

We did have some housekeeping issues and some room service deficiencies, so that was frustrating. But I think it where we'll try to stay from now on because it was so easy to get to MK and the lagoon view was great.

We are staying at the Poly for the first time ONE WEEK from today! yay! :lovestruc I've been there several times before to eat at Ohana but please refresh my memory......The monorail takes you from Poly to TTC or straight to Magic Kingdom? Thanks :)

I also saw tikiman's FB post. I'm bummed. When he kept avoiding stating dates and remained vague and the fact that Disney still hasn't contacted me or my TA to cancel my cabana, I was holding a glimmer of hope that the dates would get pushed. They still haven't cancelled my cabana (what's with that anyway?) but I think the last of my hope for the volcano pool during my trip is gone.

We'll still have a great trip, but it won't be as great. We do spend a lot of time at the pool, at least once though generally twice per day during out trips and then at least one full resort day where we spend most of the time by the pool. Yes, even in February. The quiet pool just won't be the same. As I said, we'll still have a great trip, but it won't be as great.

Maybe since we won't be spending all that money on a cabana, we should rent a boat for a little while on our break day.

I'm kind of bummed now that I switched from AKL.

The monorail takes you from the Poly to GF then to MK. If you want to get to the TTC, you can either ride the monorail all the way around or take a nice walk ;)

Im trying to catch up on this awesome thread and it has been so helpful. I just got quote for the Polynesian for march 12-16 and it was decent and then as I asked about the Volcano pool and my agent said it would be closed until the 15 or 16th. The pool is not what we are going for but should we wait and go to the Polynesian when all of the renovations are done? We are debating the Polynesian and the Port Orleans resort. its just me, hubby and my 4yo who wll have a bday while we are there.

There are conflicting reports as to when the pool will be closed. tikiman states feb 18-28.

OMG. This has incredible ramifications for Princesses running the 1/2 marathon. We need that pool for medicinal purposes! Sports medicinal purposes!

I just called there and they gave me Tikiman's dates. AAARRRRGGGHHH!
