We will be staying off-site and will be driving to the parks. If we are park hopping, where is the best place to park and get transportation to the parks?

If you are staying offsite you will need to park at one of the theme park lots. You can take Disney transportation from theme park to them park whenever you want during the day

ETA: You can drive to the other theme park if you choose. you only have to pay for parking once per day. You will not be charged for parking if you go to another theme park. Just keep your original ticket.

I normally drive myself from park to park- usually faster than Disney transportation. You only pay the daily parking fee once even if you move your car to a different theme park lot. You could also just park at the TTC ($15 a day) and use the park transportation to get to and from your car.

If I'm hopping from Epcot to MK or vice versa, I just park at the TTC and leave my car there all day. It's easy enough to take the monorail.

If I'm hopping from DHS to Epcot, I will park at Epcot in the morning and walk to DHS. I'll do the opposite if I'm doing it the other way. An extra 15 minute walk in the morning is no biggie- but an extra 15 minute walk at the end of the day is a death march.

I agree with everything except the last part. If I start the day at DHS, I'd park there, tour DHS, then walk or take the boat to EPCOT. When done with EPCOT, walk or take the boat back to DHS. To park in front of EPCOT, you have the additional walk of going through EPCOT to get to the path or boat to DHS at back of the park. That's a lot of additional walking first thing in the morning. That part would be eliminated by parking at DHS, especially since the parking lot at DHS and the walking path or boats are next to each other, rather than at opposite ends of the park as at EPCOT. If you're too tired to walk, those boats are a nice option, though kind of slow.

As to driving/hopping in general, though, I would try as much as possible to drive to each park, especially since OP would only pay the parking fee once.

I had no idea DHS and Epcot were close enough to walk to one another! Thanks for the info!

What would you recommend for AK to MK? Driving?

Yes, I would definitely drive!

Yes, when you leave the gates at DHS, go left and you can take the boat or you can go to the right of the waterway and walk the path. It's about 1 mile and takes about 20 minutes to walk from DHS to the international gateway at Epcot.

The boat will take about 40 minutes to get from DHS to Epcot since it stops at the swan/dolphin, boardwalk and beach club before it will go to epcot. This 40 minutes DOES NOT COUNT the wait time at DHS for the next boat.
