Hey All.
What do the refillable mugs at Aulani look like? Does anyone have a picture of them?

We are thinking about getting them mainly for coffee but wanting to know if they could also be a souvenir or look just like the ones here.

This isn't the best photo -- or should I say mug shot -- but its the only one I could find that I had already uploaded to Photobucket.

The Aulani mugs are much different than the ones currently offered at WDW. There are two colors, blue and dark red. When the resort opened in 2011 there was also a dark green mug with the same design.

The mugs cost $18.99 for length of stay.

They also have a purple one! Which is my favorite to carry around. I use mine all the time around the house. It is much nicer than the ones at WDW. PS We loved the coffee that they served in the store.

Can someone please explain what the deal is with these mugs? I know you can refill them, but I'm wondering a) what kinds of beverages you refill them with, b) where the refill locations are (do they refill them at the restaurants if you are dining there?), and c) how much does it cost for a regular soda or iced tea? I'm asking the last question to figure out what the "break even" is on the mug. We are not coffee drinkers, so that does not factor in for us at all.

Thanks!

The Aulani mugs cost $18.99 each plus tax and are good for the length of your stay.

There is a refillable drink station in the General Store, which is just off of the lobby on the third floor. There is also a drink station at the lava shack, which is in the central part of the Waikolohe Valley (main pool/lazy river), and at One Paddle/Two Paddle, which is near Ama'Ama and Auntie's Beach House. We also refilled our mugs at the Off the Hook Bar and the Wailana Leisure Pool Bar. We did not ask the waitstaff to refill our mugs when we ate at Ama'Ama or Makahiki, the table service restaurants.

The drink stations are easy to get to. Aulani is very well laid out and compact. You can get from one spot to another spot within 5 minutes.

The drink stations offer Coke products: Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Barq's Root Beer, Fanta Orange, Fruit Punch, Sprite. There might have been a blue Propel drink, but I'm not sure.

We never bought a fountain drink during our stay, but I think the price was about $3-$3.50 plus 4.61% sales tax. 20-oz bottles of Coke products cost about $3.25 or so. If memory serves me correctly, 12-packs at the Target in Kapolei were in the $5-$6 range. The ABC store across the street from Aulani charged nearly that same amount for a 6-pack of soda.

Thanks for the info! Would you happen to know if unsweetened iced tea is included and readily available? Or is it just soda?

No ice tea at the refillable drink stations, but at the general store, you could get coffee and hot tea packets. You could brew a partial cup of tea making it strong and then add ice and cold water. Sugar (and creamer) is also available next to the coffee.

Many members would get coffee or tea in their refillable mugs in the morning and use it for sodas the rest of the day.

I do not know if ice tea is available at one of the bars in the pool area.

Free ice water was available at more than one location around the main pool or at the bars. I often just filled my mug with water. It was more of a souvenir for me.

Thanks for the info all! and especially the pictures!

We will definitely be getting one (but probably too).
My husband and I are big coffee drinkers (vegan though, so thankfully we will be bringing our own agave and almond milk)
Plus we use our silly ones from WDW all the time. These will also be souveiners!

Thanks!!pixiedust:

There was a Flavored Ice tea (sweetened) selection at one station, and a lemonade at the other. At least in February there was. Definitely worth the price, when you add in the Hot Tea and Coffee, even for those of us who cannot have carbonated beverages. :wave2: Deb

Don't forget the Hot Cocoa! Nestle Cocoa packets are also available, which we loved making and enjoying at the Starlit Hui!:thumbsup2 Just like others, we used ours for coffee/tea in the AM and lemonade (sometimes soda) the rest of the day. The general store has a sink to rinse out your mug.

I dont see the "Good Deal" here everyone.. If you are in a DVC room with fridge, you are only a 3 min drive from Target. Pop over there and get some sodas. The only benefit I see, is if you like the design of the mugs. I know I will probably buy one when I stay at AKV.

I just returned from Aulani and can report that they are currently only stocking the blue and red mugs (last year, they had green and purple with a slightly different - better mug). These mugs aren't as sturdy as the 2011 ones, but work fine on-property. I saw many mugs sporting their owners' DVC tour name tags. A good idea with a group, but the Auntie's General Store folks will let you use their Sharpie if you want to ID your cup, too.

One Paddle Two Paddle is only open from 5-10pm now, so is their drink station... But it is convenient to the new Hui location. And while you COULD buy sodas at Target, I far prefer fountain Diet Coke to the cans or bottles. Sometimes, I'll even swing by a Del Taco because they mix theirs "richer" than the norm. Plus, for the morning coffee, and pool-side drinks, it really is a bargain. My trick is to plop a nestle cocoa in, then put coffee on top... "poor man's mocha!"

Those aren't bad at all.
I wish we could get Disney to offer classier designs like this in WDW and/or bring back resort specific mugs. I've decided that unless they make major design changes to the mugs we will no longer participate in the refill program.

Hey, I'd even like it if they'd offer bar codes and we choose our own ceramic mugs.

We purchased the mugs during our last stay in October. I was kinda upset with the quality of the sodas they offer. They are mostly watered-down compared to other fountain drinks. Their coke tasted like walmart brand cola. Very weak.

Anyone know if the lemonade is the Light MinuteMaid they often have at WDW? Trying to decide if I need to pack crystal light for my vodka mixer.

I think a lot depends on how much you will drink and the length of your stay as to whether this is a good deal. For our 9 day stay it will be a steal. We will drink a couple coffees and at least one or two fountain drinks each day. Then I can avoid buying coffee, filters, cans of soda, and lemonade for my vodka. Plus, I don't have to run to the room every time I want a coffee or soda.

Who said that it was a good deal? If Disney wasn't making money on the mugs, they wouldn't be selling them. :goodvibes

I get the feeling that many buy them and only refill them a couple of times. For kids it may be a good deal but they get a years worth of sugar during one vacation. :thumbsup2

We are currently here and the colors are blue and dark red as the picture show. The only diet fountain drink available is Coke Zero. You have to make your own iced tea with hot tea and ice. According to the food manager I spoke to, they consider iced tea a premium drink. We had a long discussion about the differences between the drink selection here and the hotels at WDW. We also had a discussion about the lack of available fountain drinks for diabetics without the iced tea or light lemonade options. He said they had not thought about it and he would bring it up at their next meeting. I felt kind of brushed off but I am now on a diabetes awareness campaign with Disney because they make you ask for options as well as a general campaign against sugar and obesity.

Are you saying they no longer offer Diet Coke at the Aulani drink stations?
