Avatar Land will be amazing

It is my opinion that Disney hasn't produced anything to match or exceed Spider Man at Universal from a technology standpoint. It debuted 13 years ago. Since then, Universal has created yet another ride, Harry Potter, that hasn't been matched or exceeded by Disney.

I gather that the new Fantasy Land refurb is supposed to be Disney's answer to Harry Potter Land. Although it will be a great addition to the park, I don't see it as meeting nor exceeding that which Universal created.

What Avatar Land has going against it is that few people have the connection to Avatar that they do to Harry Potter. It was wildly popular in the theaters, but never had that same lasting connection to the audience. That is why I feel an investment in Star Wars would be money better spent. Not only could Disney meet the standard set by Universal, but it could also exceed it in a big way.

Yet, barring a switch over to a Star Wars land, I am in agreement that whatever they cook up has to be mind blowing.

Turn the Imagineers loose and let them do their thing! It would be awesome if their goal was to one up WWoHP. Competition in this case is a great thing. Just make it a richly themed area. Everyone will enjoy it. Just don't use Dino Land as a model.

Dinoland is one of the most detailed and themed lands in any park

If Disney had potter everyone would be excited. They have Avatar and many are annoyed. How's that for a reason?

Like I said. I'm willing to see what they do. I don't care about the movie but there may be cool attractions. I just think I would be more interested in a Beastly Kingom, Australia or Mysterious Island

Many are not annoyed just a few. Protesters are always the loudest. Many disney fans made fun of uni for getting hp.

Pushing for BK, MI or Aus. is kind of like peeing into the wind. They've all been considered and overwhelmingly rejected by Disney for reasons we'll never know.

MI was a basic concept that never was feasible.

Australia is what I'd personally like. More animals, more mother nature, maybe a cool ride, more cerebral, Disney will never go for it.

I think BK would have been a terrible mess that was based on nothing BUT because Avatar is real, much of that concept or imagination can be utilized. If you think BK had potential I cannot possibly see your aversion to Aatar.:confused3

Australia would be great. As a new land or replace Rafiki Planet Watch?

The carnival area of Chester and Hester's Dino Rama cannot be considered among WDW greatest accomplishments.

I didn't say that. ASll I said it is one of the most detailed and themed places in a park. People just don't notice

My thoughts on Australia. See if it can fit by Nemo and build out from there towards Everest and the water

Build a small harbor with sea lions, shops and eateries

Log flume

Eucalyptus Forest path with tree kangaroos, lorikeets, playtpus and of course, koalas

Meet n greet with Perry?

About 3 years ago all of the major news net works in central FL reported that Australia land coming to DAK. Wondering how close Disney to develop this land

My main problem with AvatarLand is that the other movies have not even come out yet. What if the other two are not as wonderful, or maybe people start to not like them so much. I dislike it when people try to get in on a franchise when it's not even complete yet. I also understand that it probably won't be complete until the full trilogy comes out, but why invest until you're positive?
Just like how the Harry Potter books were not complete when the movies started, I felt like that was why they went from "happy series" in the first two, almost three films to, "dark and angsty".

Isn't this an example of taking a chance and being foreward thinking as we all ask Disney to do?

Taking a chance on an investment is the most simplistic form of investing. If they wait until everyone is positive, the price goes up.

TBH, I think my main problem is more with the actual movies than with what Disney wants to do with it. I just don't get the hype (though I do agree if Disney put effort into it, it could be an amazing 'land'). I watched it and seriously felt as though I was watching Pocahontas with real people. That's another debate though ;)

You don't? There's TONS of merchandise sales going on at WWOHP!! Ollivanders is basically a glorified sales pitch and it usually has an hour or longer wait.
~Exactly, the "tons" of merchandise sales cater to a captive audience and are specific to WWoHP. Ollivanders is the only place out of the entire Universal resort that sells the wands and other HP stuff -- not to mention, it's unrealistically small (to stay in line with the story) -- so of course, there would be an hour long wait.

~The same can be said for Disney, just imagine if mouse ears were sold in one tiny store out of the whole complex, you would witness the same "frenzy." My point is the crazy demand for Harry Potter items inside the parks does not reflect the demand for Harry Potter merchandise outside of the parks. Harry Potter is iconic but it's not all that relevant today -- there are no new books or movies in the works. HP has a strong fan base, that can carry Universal. Disney has a stronger fan base and can and will successfully carry Avatar.

~Anyway, it really doesn't have to be "one" or the "other." I'm not an Avatar or Harry Potter "fan." I'm a theme park fan and I intend to enjoy both. I feel confident in saying, I represent the "majority" outside of the DIS.

Revenue does not equal quality.
I am a SW fan but did not particularly care for them either.
~I don't understand this statement. It sounds like you're saying, Avatarland can not be successful because you don't care for the movie. I don't care for the movie either, but I know Avatarland has enormous potential to be every bit of fabulous! :goodvibes

But I feel Harry Potter has a much bigger following. Avatar doesn't have that kind of Cult . I can see Harry Potter convention 10 years from now
~This statement is way way off. What would a convention, ten years from now, have to do with the success of Avatarland?!? "Harry Potters fan base" is too weak of an argument to demonstrate why Avatar not be a successful addition to Animal Kingdom. :goodvibes

avatar is just starting not really fair to compare to a franchise thats been around for 11 years...but i see your point...i just look at avatar as having a great appeal to a themed land

nothing to do with its story
***sigh*** Besides, sounding like a broken record, I totally agree with you! Harry Potter is done, there are no more books and no more movies in the pipeline & popularity of the franchise on the current market has significantly waned & will continue to diminish as time goes on.

~Universal is the only thing that keeps Harry Potter relevant or some would say, Harry Potter keeps Universal relevant, maybe it's a little of both. My point is -- none of this matters. Avatarland has the potential to be a huge success for Disney. We'll just have to wait & see.
:goodvibes

Exactly! IMHO. Disney is using there creative fake world of Pandora that would fit great in that park. When built Cameron will have basically free market ing for his next avatar movies. 20 years from now the land could be without the blue beings and just be. Pandora
~Pandora will be fabulous! There is so much Disney can use to create an amazing theme park experience. I am very excited to see what Cameron and Disney's Imagineers come up with! :goodvibes

yep im at a point where i would really like to start a new thread to discuss avatar/pandora and not discuss why people dont like it

I think Disney couold do some amazing things with Avatarland / Pandora. Im not a Star Wars fan but I do like Avatar and Harry Potter. I have not been to Universal to see TWWOHP I also have not spent any time on star wars at DHS and we spend a fair amount of time at the park. However I would def spend time checking out Avatarland / Pandora and would be excited to see this! From my experience with friends visiting Disney some have gone to see TWWOHP and only spend 1-2 days at Universal just for the fact its there.... then spend 5-6 days at WDW parks, btw none are huge Star Wars fans. I think they would also like to see Disney do something with Avatar. So many people enjoy different movies and Avatar is a well liked movie but just not a huge fan base but could this change if Disney had a successful Avatarland? I think it could.
Any idea on when this is supposed to happen?

~LOL. Well, this thread is supposed to be the "Avatarland will be amazing" thread!!! So, I'm pretty sure that was the intent. :rotfl: We'll just have to do our best to stay on track. If you don't give up, I won't give up!!! :goodvibes
