No Buy ~ January 2013 edition

I love that picture! I wonder if it's downloadable subway art somewhere so I can print it out and hang it in Morgan's room?

Morgan only got a phone because of the fact that we no longer had busing in 5th grade. We all needed to get in touch with each other, should something happen on our way to pick her up after school. It's basic, she's only allowed 250 texts a month, (and that's new, only added that a few months ago) and if she goes over, she pays for it. She has other ways to contact her friends, she doesn't NEED to be texting.

When we change carriers next year, she will end up with a newer phone, but she'll almost be freshman by that point ;)

Hoping for a no-buy day today, but I have a feeling we'll end up getting take-out for dinner...

:woohoo:

No buy day... DD found her gas gift card she got for graduation in her room!!!

I got the boys' report cards today.. Honor Roll for both..

1/8- $0

Safeway- $62.12 more meat and pasta $0.50 a box. Gas was $2.99 a gallon with my rewards -$58.99 and a $66 dollar trip to J's (but it was all business stuff, cant cut out things without mats and blades)
1/10-$0
1/11-$0 personal. did spend business money. but already made 1/2 back
1/12
1/13

woot! a no buy/no eat out day. DBF did grab lunch out, since he ran an errand for me on his lunch break, still saved money.

I am doing great so far! DS wants to go grocery shopping with me today so we will see how strong I am.:)

hmmm maybe make a list & have him check stuff off - if there is something that isn't on the list it is a if we come out under budget then you can go back & get it

We didn't do too bad, he only added one item that wasn't on list, $1.59 for juice. I actually was surprised when we finished and we were over $25 under budget.

I added a little to our grocery run today... but I wanted my Kellogg's cracker chips.. I am craving them for my snacks instead of chips or snack cakes...

So, I spent 39.00 (38 and some change) at the store today.. and I bought extra milk so I don't have to go out again before grocery day on Friday.. DH put 20 in gas because he drove my car this week...

We are doing better than expected with $0buy this weekend. Only $14 @ post office so far for stuff that has been waiting to be mailed....1 baby gift & 1 late Christmas present. Out of my house too, so double win for me!

I am so glad you posted the link to this thread in that pay off debt thread on the Budget Board. I almost started the January No Buy thread on the Budget Board today because I couldn't believe nobody had started it yet. :headache: I had NO IDEA it was here, and it never crossed my mind to look for it in the Crafts Forum. :confused3

I used to post on the No Buy thread quite often, but drifted away from it. I wanted to start again this year. I always keep track of my spending in my daybook, even when I wasn't posting on No Buy.

I'll read through the thread to catch up, and I'll post my numbers sometime today.

I'm glad you found us!

This is the forum I moderate so it was easy for me to start one here. I made one in Dec but I was the only one posting on it. LOL

Thanks! I guess people just wanted to shop in December. :rotfl:

I suppose it makes sense to put it here if you moderate here....I'm just glad you mentioned it on the Budget Board or it might have been months before I found it! I'm not even sure the people who were regularly posting on No Buy at the same time I was regularly posting are still around the DIS at all. I rarely see any of them. :confused3 But now I get to know all you crafty people! :woohoo:

I have tried to scrapbook in the past, but it's more like a hobby I say I do than one I actually do. I need to get it together. I put all the photo stuff in plastic boxes back in late August because the weather people were saying Isaac was going to blow up to a Category 3 overnight, and we were preparing to evacuate. Well, it didn't intensify and we ended up riding it out at home, but my scrapbook stuff is still in the bins....

January 2013 No Buy

Goal: 15 $0 Days

1: $48.62 Groceries, lunch in MSP airport
2: $0
3: $46.00 McDonald's :rolleyes1, Lowes, Ross
4: $67.63 Walmart (Groceries & "misc")
5: $0
6: $18.18 Groceries
7: $0
8: $0
9: $0
10: $7.85 Shirt for work (required), school lunch milk
11: $2.25 snoball
12: $124.98 :headache: Popeyes :rolleyes1, sneakers, 2 Mickey shirts from the Disney Store (it's closing for renovations and 50% off!), Walmart.com (cheap phone to use for the next month), Gas ($22.07 - $3.05/gal)

Total: $315.51
$0 Days: 5

So $80 of today was on a pair of sneakers and two shirts. I didn't want to spend money on sneakers this month, but I realized that my current ones are falling apart. I've worn them almost daily since I bought them last March. I ended up at Famous Footwear and found a pair I liked that fit for $60 with tax.

The shirts are cute and I can wear them on my Disneyland trip coming up in a few months, but I totally did not need them and they were an impulse buy. I'm a little annoyed with myself over these; I was doing quite well so far this month with only buying things that were on my list.

Me too. Dec is a month I spend. A No Buy Dec. didn't make sense for me.

Jan is a month to be financially disciplined so there is money to spend again next Dec. :cool1:

My goal is NO silly/impulse spends. Driving to visit elderly in-laws costs gas but is a good spend. Buying more coffee at the oasis and then getting a donut to go with it is a silly spend. (i have a thermos). Buying dinner for our daughter's birthday is an annual joy. Going out for lunch with a friend is an impulse spend.

I will have months with an easier target. But Jan and Oct are my two NO spend months.

Last time I checked I know Yuki was pretty busy with wedding plans. Other than that I didn't really get to know many people there. December was a no buy/smart buy thread but yeah it went over like a lead balloon. LOL

My stuff was in Bins for a long time after Irene. We loaded up all the pics and albums and put them in the RV and took them with us to Buffalo. I think the last bin of albums came out of the RV 3 months later.
Hopefully we can inspire you to do scrappy stuff again, but you have to use your stash on those no buy days!!! That's what we try to do.

Shoes are a must!! A good foundation keeps the rest of the body in good shape.
I spent a lot more than that yesterday. DS16 and DS12 need new dress shoes and sneakers. I got DS16 done but not DS12. We will hit Kohl's this afternoon. We also got some much needed jeans for everyone but DS12 and myself, I bought mine with a gift card in Dec and I will get DS12's at Kohl's too.

Yesterday was a no buy day! I am planning that , other than admission to my son's basketball game , today will be a $0 day as well.

Today = NO BUY!!! I'm shooting for a another one tomorrow as there is NOTHING I have to have!! :woohoo:

I'm hoping to get through til Friday when it's grocery day before I have to purchase anything.. My goal this week is to get some scrapping done because I am behind..I supervised DS12 finishing up his tri-fold assignment today...
