:furious: How long will it take to get used to these things? I went from using non prescription readers to these and I just don't think this is gonna work. I was expecting to see better not worse!

I guess everyone is different. When I got mine the DR. asked if I noticed a difference, I laughed and said no. If it does not get better with time I would go back and let the DR. know.

See that's what I was expecting. To put the glasses on and just be able to see better. I went in today after wearing them for 2 days and they told me I just wasn't used to them and I needed time to adjust. I'm gonna keep them on through the weekend and see what happens I guess.

I had progressive lenses - essentially bi-focals without the lines.

I brought them back. They were absolutely horrible. I couldn't see a damn thing. I want to be able to put my glasses on and go "ahhhh - I can see".

Yep, that's what I got...progressives. $400 worth of glasses and contacts and I could see better with readers. :headache:

My husband got progressive lenses and absolutely hated them. He can tolerate the line bi-focals better.

When my eye doctor told me I needed bi-focals, I was upset because I'd heard of people having trouble adjusting. She told me that, as I have worn glasses most of my life, I would have less trouble because I am used to having to move my whole head to see. I've never really had peripheral vision, I don't try to look over the top of or under my glasses. I have adjusted pretty quickly, but for close up reading, it's easier to take my glasses off altogether.

I went to progressives this fall after having worn a VERY strong prescription for distance/astigmatism since childhood. I shopped around and had a number of opticians tell me I'd be "a pro" withing a couple of days. It actually took more like a month and a half. Honestly, the only thing that kept me from abandoning them was that I left on an extended vacation really shortly after getting them and didn't have time to have a different pair of single-visions made. Now I am used to them and the thing is, looking through the "zones" is so intuitive that you don't really realize you're doing it, unlike when you first get them and you're struggling to find the right place to look. I do have to say that my vision in all three zones is better than with my old glasses. Give yourself some more time.

I have no-line bifocals when I wear my glasses. Took me about a week to get used to them!
When I wear contacts one eye is for distance and the other is my "cheater". That took about two weeks to get used to. My eye doc encouraged me to stick with it and I'm glad I did! I was always losing or breaking my "cheaters" and its so nice not to have to Cary around an extra set of glasses!
Hang in there and give it some time!

Oh I got some last week-the doctor called them "progressive glasses". I hate them! I had to tilt my head up to read and forget trying to use the computer. The lady said give them a week. I retuned them the next day! I would rather just have two pairs. Awful and I feel old-I am 45 and had perfect vision until the day I turned 40.

Once I got the lenses right and the glasses fitted properly, it took about 2 weeks to get used to progressives.

I had been wearing progressive lenses for about 10 years. I took to them like a duck to water. No problem.

Then I got a new Rx (probably my 4th by then). I put them on and said "something's wrong".
The tech said, no, it will just take you a little time to get used to them. OK.

I started driving home and was literally feeling sick with them, dizzy. Took them off and put my old ones back on.

Then I went back to the eye doc to ask them to check the numbers they wrote on my Rx.
Sure enough, they had made a mistake with the eye test (new doc or whatever they are).
They said that they should have called me back, but hadn't done it yet

I went back in, had a new eye test and they called Sams Club (where I got the wrong Rx)
and asked them to make me a new pair, no charge.

Moral of the story, sometimes they make mistakes and it isn't you!

I'm getting some progressives myself; my optometrist said she wore them and that it took her over a month to adjust, so give it time!

This getting older thing ain't for wimps!

I've had progressives for years and love them. The first time I got them, it took about a week to get used to them, especially walking down stairs.

Give them a few more days.

I dread the eventual need I might have for bifocals. I've been having issues with reading print with my contacts. I can read books and magazines better without them in. But doc did the bifocal test and said I didn't need them yet. I think I'll bring it up again this year.

Mom used to wear bifocals but went back to single vision lenses as she hated the bifocals and just shifts her glasses askew so she can read up close.

Sorry to hear you're having issues, I'd give it a few days. I've worn progressive for years and thankfully never had an issue, imo best thing since sliced bread :goodvibes. DH on the other hand tried and can't tolerate them. :guilty:

This was my experience too. When I first got them I had a problem driving, but adjusted pretty quickly. I take mine off now to read that's when I know it's time to get my eyes checked ;)

Some people need a few days to adjust. If that does not happen, it may be that the prescription was not made up correctly or that one or more areas needs adjustment. I have had several pairs of progressives now. I did have to have one pair remade because a different lens curvature was used. This is why we always use a local shop we trust and that will get glasses remade or make adjustments until we are satisfied.

I recently got progressives.....I wore bifocals for yeas with no problem but Dr. suggested progressives...well I hated them. I really tried for 3 weeksto get used to them but I never could. The middle zone was the worst.

I went back and got bifocals again and all is well.
