I've been put on the GTY status for our April cruise. I'd love to read all the reviews so far and anticipate which rooms are best for my DH and I. Also, when I asked to be put in an assigned room yesterday (I changed from an inside assigned room yesterday, a cheap upgrade of only 38.00) they said I have to be on a GTY status...why? Why not assign a specific room this far out?

When a certain percentage of rooms within a specific category are booked, the category goes GTY. It's DCLs way of controlling how many rooms are available for booking. Booking now for April isn't really all that far out. Some cruises are booked as far out as a year.

AFAIK, in order to find out what rooms are 9A, you'd have to look at the deck plans and find that out yourself, I don't know of anyplace that has a list of what rooms are in what categories.

:cutie:

Ok thanks. I actually did book this cruise almost a year out, but changed categories yesterday. It's very hard looking at the deck plans, to decipher 9A rooms. The color codes are almost identical to another category, I think it's a yellow shade. I was hoping they'd be a list somewhere out in Dis land to help me out :).

Bumping, still looking for pictures or numbers of 9A rooms?

Counting Cat 9A's on the DREAM deck plan, I find the following 10 staterooms:

8008 8506
7008 7506
6008 6506 6186 6686
5186 5686

With so few 9A's you may be upgraded from your 9A GTY anyway. We booked a 4E on the Wonder for location. Only offered GTY. There's only 6 of those I think. We were upgraded. Fingers crossed you'll be assigned something soon. :goodvibes

For our October 2012 Dream cruised we booked a 9A gty in April of 2012, and received a 9A assignment in July.

Thank you! That's just what I was looking for.

Here's hoping! I wouldn't find out 3 months before our cruise would I? I thought it was 2 weeks away that you're assigned. So what is the next step up from a 9A, a verandah?

Next step up is actually an 8D which is a deluxe family ocean view room. I too have a GTY for a 9A and I have heard of people finding out 2 months out and others that find out at the port. I guess it just depends. :goodvibes

Well, there's just two of us, it probably wouldn't make sense to put us in a family cabin (8D), right?

I hear 50 days out often quoted. We heard 2 months out. Read recently of others who've been assigned before PIF date. And of course there are those that don't find out until they're at the port! And even if you get an assigned room number, they can still change it!
So...no help there! :goodvibes

Good luck.
