Ok, I am crabby now.

I'm going to Disney for the Princess Half Marathon. I'm scheduled to stay at my favorite, the Polynesian. Now I hear that the volcano pool will be closed from Feb 18 - Mar 1. I'm bummed.

And I need to decide if I want to book somewhere else. :( No pool and no Hawaii building. Can't decide if it's a deal breaker. What would you do?

I'll be there the same time. I'm not happy but what can you do? I'm booked as part of a group and can't switch to another monorail resort (could switch to a Crescent Lake resort but I don't like them nearly as much) or I might have considered it.

We spend a lot of time at our resort. I need to figure out how we're going to spend our resort day. The partial days will be fine by the quiet pool but the full day, that won't cut it. I hope they'll at least do the pool activities and games somewhere and there'll still be things like the hula lessons so we'll probably be fine, but it's not the same.

I cannot stop overthinking this...am I in the right place? Leave on Friday - :yay: - current request is for adjoining rooms with my parents and either balcony or patio. We have one 4yo son...

I can't decide if I should leave things to the Tiki Gods for our first visit or if I should request a specific longhouse. The only thing I fear is a parking lot view.

Also can't decide if I should just ask for the patio - but then, making the request specific makes it that much harder to fill...

can someone tell me to just let it go already?

thanks!

We left it up to chance our 1st visti. We got Rapa Nui, facing the parking lot, 3rd floor. It was wonderful! We could hardly notice the parking lot, you really had to look down. All we ever watched/noticed was the monorail. The kids loved it - just as I'm sure yours would. Now, it may have been very different had we not been on the 3rd floor, but we loved it. And, it was so convenient to walk to the TTC. We usually went there, even to get to MK.

Ok. I decided not to change resorts. I can't leave the Polynesian. I'm hoping for the best regarding pool closure and Hawaii closure.

Maybe Hawaii will finish early and I can upgrade myself. Hey, a girl can dream! I just refuse to worry about it anymore. I'll figure it out on check in.

And Princessap, I wouldn't switch. I bet the pool work will be completed by your check in date. If it isn't, be super friendly and explain your problem and that you want to switch resorts, if at all possible. My other belief is that they won't have the Polynesian volcano pool and the GF courtyard pool both closed at the same time. I could be wrong, but I just don't see Disney doing that. If the volcano pool is closed, you are usually offered the pools at the GF, which are great as well. Of course, nothing is guaranteed!

Wish we had a crystal ball and could know for sure what shape the Polynesian Resort will be in at any date!

Princessap: I say do this! More than likely if the pool is not open and you explain the situation, they will let you switch, especially if they go pass the scheduled done date. Hopefully it will be open when you get there. You know they do also have a "quite pool".

If there is a specific longhouse you would want to stay in then I would call and see if the longhouse you want to stay in has an available adjoining room and they could make a note that you prefer that longhouse and it has to be an adjoining room.

thanks. we are staying with the poly. my DH and kids don't like the look of the CR and BLT. I am looking forward to watching wishes and the water parade from the beach!

How early do I need to get there to get a hammock?

Thanks! fingers crossed pool is on schedule for all of us staying there at that time!

I would love to know this too! Just wondering with they are staying on schedule or not. Also with the refurb in Hawaii are they going to redo the CL lounge?

I asked Tikiman a while ago on his FB page and he said yes, they are redoing the lounge. So excited to see the new look!

Hey guys-- got a response from Tikiman about the alleged pool room /standard view rumor the WDW CMs were talking about:
The Polynesian only changed its garden view category to standard view but it did not add a new category of pool view. Disney reservations sometimes gets mixed up because other resorts like Yacht Club have pool view category. The price increase might be if you booked before the new rates came out and the new rates are about $20 to $50 a night more than last year depending on the season and day of the week. You may owe more because of that but there is no new room category.

fyi!

She should be fine in most of the volcano pool. I don't know the specific depth, but the deepest part is in the rounded area at the GCH end, where the slide lets out. She should be "almost" able to touch there. Our DD7 is pretty much 48" tall & she can almost touch there (her face goes under, but the water is maybe to the top of her head? - hard to remember exactly). If she would be more comfortable there are life ackets available for free at the marina office. You just have to sign them out with your room card and you can keep them for the length of your stay (just return it to the marina when you're done, don't leave it in your room).

It's been a while since we've used a pack & play, so I'm rusty on the exact size, but I'm thinking if you push the chair right back into the corner & move the automan it should fit over by the patio door (without taking the chair right out).

Just saw a picture on a Poly Pics thread from 2007 that shows depth of 3feet9inches right by the slide! Thanks again for the help!

That's what I thought, thank you for posting an update!!! Did he by chance mention when the increase occured? I booked our trip in Sept, hopefully prices have not increased since then. I still cannot link my reservation on the new website to see the amount due and I don't feel like sitting on hold for an hr just yet, lol. I am able to price out resorts stays and the rates are still the same as when I booked so I'm pretty sure my amount due is the same.

You all will love it!!! Of course it's great watching Wishes in MK but for the nights you don't feel like battling the crowds and just want to relax, watching Wishes from the Poly beach is priceless!!!

As far as the hammock goed, I'm not too sure on that on. We are usually on the beach 30 mins before Wishes and the hammocks are already taken. Plus, they show a nightly Disney movie on the beach so there's already a handful of people there. We always just end up sitting at one of the tables.

I spoke to a CM yesterday and they confirmed that Hawaii building is indeed currently closed for renovations.

Will it be done by May??

Hi everyone!

I don't currently have time to go back and read a lot right now. Can someone give me the 411 on the renos and timeline? We are planning an August trip, but want to ensure we are not dealing with construction the whole time :) otherwise we may need to head back to beach club :( thanks!!!
